I lived in the south for a few years and loved the Cajun food. I grew up eating crawl fish and very spicy food. The crawl fish ?touff?e at this place is just do die for! It is very flavorful, homey, and has very generous portion (even for the lunch portion!) My friends loved the bread used in the sandwich too. It's way better than the Cajun food down the street. My only complain is that they only serve Beignets on Sunday. I wish they can serve it everyday!!! more

My cousin, her husband and I went in search for good mac & cheese, and based on reviews we drove out to Hermosa Beach. The macaroni & cheese was amazingly delicious! We even each ordered a serving to go! (Am I glad I ordered more to bring home, because my boyfriend and I are devouring it as I type). We also go the catfish & jumbalaya which was delicious, the crawfish ettoufee which was a little spicy but good comfort food, and the beef tip with garlic mashed potatoes - delicious! The customer service was excellent (other LA restaurants should take note!) and the lady Chef was so hospitable and came over to each of us asking how the food was, and even shook each of our hands on the way out. My husband & I had decided what we were going to order before we left home, and I knew I would try the macaroni & cheese because of the rave reviews. It was ""to die for"", by far the best macaroni cheese I've ever eaten, even better than my mothers. I also ordered the oyster & shrimp po boy sandwich. My husband ordered the jambalaya & catfish and ate part of my macaroni & cheese. We had also planned to have the delicious peach cobbler, but were too stuffed to endulge. Chance, our gracious & attentive waiter suggested we take some home, but we said no. Now here it is 4 hours later, we're home, and I'm wishing for a dish of Cassandra's peach cobbler. Oh well, maybe next time. We're having girlfriend's lunch next Saturday and guess what? We'll be back at New Orleans. Give them a try. Excellent seafood, desserts and exceptional service. more

We don't eat Cajun often, maybe it's a little to spicy for us. Never had Gator before, but now we are hooked. The atmosphere at this place is lovely, simple, down to earth, casual as we are, bring your own bottle of wine. Even though we're not huge fans of Cajun food we will be going back as often as possible. The service, well, does the fact that we over tipped the waitress on purpose mean anything to you. I took my lunch break here on the recommendation from a coworker. As stated in previous reviews, the owner/chef was right there taking my order. She's chatty, personable, quick with a laugh and I liked her immediately. I ordered chicken jambalaya and peach cobbler, no drink. The food was good, I liked it, but it was not worth $25. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean I won't go back, it just means I won't be going for a quick lunch anymore. Maybe my husband and I will go for a nice dinner sometime soon. more

I thought I would have to go to south central, or ladera heights to find real authentic ""soul"" food. I was dead wrong. This truly is the real deal. I still cannot believe an authentic cajun place is in a nice quaint town like hermosa beach. In a town like this I expect good pizza, good french food, or good american cuisine, but this may just be the best cajun restaurant in LA county. The first reviewer said that the red beans and rice were dry and not spicy. Well, my wife and I got the red beans and rice and we asked them if it was spicy, they said ""no but we can make it spicy"". Problem Solved!!! We got the seafood gumbo spicy and they didnt mess around at all. The seafood gumbo was full of flavor, very fresh ingredients, great seasoning, and tons of good lousiana spice. I mean it was spicy and delicios! This is the only place I have ever been to (I have been everywhere) where the gumbo actually tastes as good as my mothers! Simply Amazing food! I am a SoCal girl raised by a very Southern Woman, if there's two things I know about food, it's BBQ and Cajun. I make it a habit to try every cajun/creole joint in the SoCal area and it never tastes like this joint. Family owned and operated, there is only one chef, and she's a New Orleans native and uses family recipies. The Gumbo is the best I've ever had, the Blackened Chicken (or Catfish) is addictive. Jambalaya, Alligator on a Stick, Hot Sausage Po Boy, Mac n Cheese is to die for! They make their own house salad dressing and Gator romalaude sauce, and the desserts are all homeade. Certian items come over $20, but portions are huge-large Gumbo bowl is big enough for two. I eat there often, and I'm never disappointed! Small and cozy...this place has the most amazing HOMEMADE cajun food. The chef and her husband run the place and once they know you, it is like coming home! We had our rehearsal dinner there and our friends/family still rave about the food. You can't go wrong! more

For the simple fact that there is one and only one chef, that alone should prove to any restaurant goer, or better yet anyone who enjoys great food, that this must be real.
