Small Animal Hospital

I have used both sides (small and large), and they are wonderful! To the person who said they were terrible and that Abingdon, VA is 6hrs away...where in the world are you at and why would you be calling this vet??? Abingdon is only right at an hour drive from Johnson City, TN. Needless to say, ignore that person's comment. This is a wonderful group of vets for large and small animals that really do care about your animals. more

For 12 years this was my vet of choice for 2 dogs and 4 cats--only left them because I moved out of state. I miss them.\r \r Dr. Jones and Dr. Baird very good. Did not see Dr. Scott much. A busy place so sometimes it took a while to get back to you if you did not have an appointment.\r \r Always seem genuinely concerned with my critters.\r \r Very nice people. Marie is a hoot!\r \r Pro: easy to get to.\r \r Con: small waiting room and parking lot. more

I had a hedgehog that was a few months old...He started to not eat or drink. This is when i made an appoitment and i told them all the problems i was have, which to me were quite serious, and all they could get me in for was a week later at 2:00. I am only 15 so of course i depend on other people driving me. So i said i think he needs to be seen asap, but they told me if he was really sick i could take him to Abington VA. Six hours away from where i lived. I could not get a ride there. He seemed to be getting better until the night before his appt. The symptons got worse and the airport vet didn't know anything about hedgehogs. So i watched him die. Cold to the touch, wobling, shaking, and foaming at the mouth for about an hour or less. I called to cancel the appt. and all they said was we will cancel that for you and the lady hung up. No sorry or anything. Never take a small exotic or probably any animal here more

I have used the small animal clinic for my two dogs and two cats and they are wonderful. Dr. Jones is a very special Dr and has a wonderful relationship with the animals as well as the owners!\r \r I took my two pot belly pigs to the large clinic to have them spayed. They did a great job and were very reasonable for the care provided.\r \r They also have good hours of operations to meet your needs. Very clean and friendly staff. more

i recently brought a sulcata tortoise in for a ri infection i was given baytril shots for 7 days this did not cure the problem dr jones did not even want to do a recheck on my tort after 4 phone calls she never even bothered to return my calls or finish his treatment.i was charged 50.00 and left hanging with a sick tort .after 3 other vets that where clueless on how to treat my tort i had to give him up to somebody in california just so he could get proper care.i think it's sad that in east tn there is no vet that can take proper care of a tortoise yet they charge exotic prices.i will never take onother animal to this vet again. more

Last year I took my cat there when she was sick (she had diarrhea a couple of times & vomited once). A vet who was there helping out the animal hospital (maybe one of the permanent vets was on vacation or something) jumped to conclusions about my kitty and led me to believe what was wrong with her was most likely cancer or another terminal illness. He wanted to keep her and run tests. The white blood cell count came back through the roof. He wasn't sure quite yet what was wrong, but his fill-in shift was over, so he turned my cat over to Dr. Jones. Dr. Jones immediately questioned the blood count because my cat's symptoms were minimal and the test indicated a VERY sick kitty. She redid the blood work and it turned out to be a false test. In summary, I suggest to take your pets to Dr. Jones. If I had only gotten her to see my cat on the first visit, I would have been spared the anxiety I went through when I was led to believe my cat could be dying. I have seen first hand what most people don't get to see in this hospital as well as many other animal hospitals in the area. I can say, with out hesitation, that I ""recommend"" Mountain Empire Animal Hospital. The clinic is kept clean, the staff and vet(s) are all very helpful and knowledgeable. I will take my pets there again.\r more

I have been taking my cats to Mountain Empire for 8 years and they have done an excellent job with them. They are very caring and I have always had great service. more

I used Mtn Empire strictly for my horses and found them to be very satisfactory. They were dependable and came out at about any time of day. One vet is more into cows and seems to give incorrect horse advice, but the others are knowledgeable and dependable. more
