Sleeping is the whole point 3/2/2009

\r We basically didn't sleep.\r pros: 2nd floor is really cool, the rooms are clean and nice, location is great for shows and close to shopping.\r \r cons: the trains all night long keep you up. out the window is a beautiful view of dumpsters. the bed was like a bad mattress where they put a pillow-top thing on top of it, so we spent the night rolling into the center of the bed. they told us not to make a reservation for the package deal with the bad restaurant in the basement (see my review of the catacombs pub). Pros: proximity, nice decor, clean room Cons: the trains, dumpster noise, restaurant recommendation, awful bed more

Great Weekend Retreat! 11/26/2006

I stayed at the Montvale earlier this year with my family for my Dad's 60th birthday. We got a block of rooms next to each other on the top floor overlooking the atrium. It was really great! The hotel was quiet and so peaceful and relaxing -- it felt like we had the place to ourselves. My 2 year old nephew had the run of the place upstairs there, and we all relaxed and read books and hung out. \r \r I'm surprised at the other reviewer's comments about it being noisy -- we found it to be the exact opposite. Plus, it's a charming place, beautifully restored. It's got a lot of character you won't find at bigger hotels. \r \r I recommend it. Pros: Cute, quiet hideaway with lots of charm. Free WiFi too. Cons: Nothing major more

DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU WANT TO GET ANY SLEEP 11/6/2006

This hotel appeared posh and comfortable as we entered. Little did we know that we would get no sleep in this cold and noisy hotel. The room in which we stayed overlooked First and Monroe, and we could hear every vehicle that traveled along either of these busy streets throughout the weekend, freight trains passing through downtown during the day and night, and bottles from a nearby business being emptied early Monday morning. It was pretty obvious to us that the hotel had been refurbished with no thought given to actual comfort, as the windows in our room allowed all the sounds from the busy streets to enter our room, as well as the cold air from outside. When we complained to the management about the cold temperature in our room, we were told that we could not use a space heater because of the ""European style"" of the rooms. WHAT????? We had our four month-old baby with us, and it was pretty obvious that he would prefer warmth over style. The owner of this hotel obviously cares more about image and appearance than actual comfort for the guests. I would rather stay in Spokane's worst flea-bag hotel than at the Montvale. Spend a few extra dollars and go to the Davenport. Pros: Housekeeping staff was very helpful Cons: Cold and noisy rooms more
