Great place, loved it 9/4/2011

We had a dinner there last night with my 5 and almost 7 year old boys. It was such a nice surprise that the kids could run outside to the fountains to play, while we were waiting for the food. We had a great view to see what they are doing. This made the dinner so relaxing. The service were excellent, every one greeted us with a smile, and the food was served timely. We were well taken care of, but they didn't ask every 5 minutes if everything is OK, which I hate. The food was to die for, so very good. I recommend the Mingo salad, it's like a caesar salad but better. I had the halibut dinner, oh so good, with a tomatoes corn and some green mixture. I wish I knew how to make it at home. We had the lemon tart and the Tiramisu for dessert, both excellent. This dinner was not cheap, we can only afford it probably once a year, but it was worth it. more

Another great meal at Mingo 10/25/2010

Wanted a nice dinner not too far from home and chose Mingo. As usual, we had a great dining experience. We have been there with and without our 8 year old, and we have always been taken care of. Started out the night with a ""Dare to be Dan""...great spicy drink! The worst part about the evening was having to decide what to order, the choices were all interesting. Finally decided on the late fall menu item with papparadelle pasta, rabbit sausage and butternut squash....it was a great combination of flavors and textures. Our server made some great suggestions for both the menu and wine selections. \r This is our favorite restaurant on the Westside. Can't wait for the early winter menu! more

I love this place 10/14/2010

The food and service is fabulous. Try the shrimp & bread appetizer, caesar salad, halibut with mushroom sauce or the polenta with mushroom sauce. Divine. Great wines at reasonable costs. LOVE IT! more

BEST Italian restaurant in Oregon 7/6/2010

My wife & I are constantly looking for a good Italian resaurant. We are from the East Coast & the ethnic food are a little different there. While we were in D/T Beaverton I pulled out my ""Smart Phone"", pulled up an ""app"" that is ""Have 2 Eat"" & started scrolling thru to find someplace that we hadn't been to yet. When I got to Mingo West & read all of the other reviews I thought that no restaurant could be that good. So, that night we decided to give it a try. Guess what? It was everything they all said it was and more. The food & service are well worth the prices. Our server Susan was an absolute delight. We are going to put Mingo on our ""short list"" of regular restaurants to visit. It is the BEST Italian restaurant in Oregon. Pros: EVERYTHING more

Better each time you go 2/25/2010

Creative menu and wine list. Nice setting most of the time. Don't let the building repairs stop you from coming. Very easy parking. Pros: flavors are great, Interesting cocktails Cons: none, but we do take it for granted at times. more

Great Food & Great Service 10/24/2009

Took my wife here for her birthday. My Halibut with Corn Salsa was outstanding. My wife had the pulled beef and penne which was OK for a beef eater but not to my liking. She really likes fish better so should not have ordered it. Bread was excellent, salad was OK with only lettuce and a dressing, needs other vegetables, and the service was excellent. When the restaurant got full it was very noisy. They have added curtains between tables which we liked, but they need an accoustics engineer to fix the noise. With 3 tables of 6 or 8 in the middle, the place was really noisy and could hardly carry on a conversation. The food was excellent, and too full to try dessert. Will return in the Summer time when we can eat outside. Pros: Service, Wine, Entre's Cons: Salad a little plain, very noisy more

My favorite eatery when visitng Portland. 10/9/2009

I reside on Maui and frequent Portland as often as I can. I never miss the opportunity to spend an evening at Mingo's. I am always greeted as though I were family; the staff extend themselves with such warmth and hospitality. I will say a special Thank You to Mat, Michael and Monica for the special attention you always show me. I always know I will be treated to a special meal no matter which dishes I choose. Every meal that I have eaten there has been excellent. I have also attended their ""Cooking Class"", which was a gift to me from my son and it turned out to be the best birthday gift ever. Keep up the good work. more

great food and really nice people 10/9/2009

I ate here with my girlfriend recently and had a great dinner. Our service was great and casual, and the food was hearty and delicious. The wine list is extensive and I was expertly guided by the owner himself. We will be back! Pros: outdoor dinning Cons: no canolis more

European Delight in Beaverton! 10/6/2009

While traveling, I could not wait to get back to the delicious food served at Mingo! Just like the restaurants in Europe, Mingo is friendly with a staff who has been working together since it opened. Because it is locally owned, there is a feeling that everyone is there just for you. The food is deliciously delightful, and I love the time I spend at Mingo! Pros: Best food, wine and staff! Cons: You want to try everything! more

Mingo:Simple Italian at its Best 10/5/2009

Mingo is a great restaurant that I have been going to for years. It has the best pizza. In fact, I won't get pizza anywhere else. Their dishes are fresh, simple, local and organic whenever possible. The atmoshere is hip, fun, yet unpretentious. You can tell the staff and owner really care about what they do and take pride in making Mingo what it is: a place for people who really want to partake in the joy of food, wine and friends. The place has soul and integrity - you can't find that too often Pros: great, simple, fresh, local food/friendly staff/nice atmosphere Cons: its in Beaverton, but its worth the trip and off the max line more

downward spiral 7/13/2009

Mingo has been my family and business spot for year. BUT as of late, closing for lunch, letting go of the pastry chef, letting go of long time chef for a family member who doesnt even come close to the previous chef. The food is so inconsistant my wallet can't take the gamble anymore. Its embarassing to take clients in. Mingo is on a fast downward spiral. What is going on? Looks like someone is shooting for a permanent vacatioin. We'll miss you mingo and all the staff who have been like family. Pros: nice interior Cons: over priced and inconsistant more

Getting a little full of themselves, and careless in process 6/14/2009

Wants to appear Neighborhood chef-run restaurant, aspires to be priced and delivered like a first class dinner house. Failed at both.\r Started with a Mingo Salad. Asked for the Romaine to be chopped. ""They won't do that"". Have you ever been told that ? Even in Manhattan they will acommodate that request. C'mon folks. And for $9.00. That's not on the neighborhood price scale.\r Entre'- a simple pasta which was the first dish I have asked for a do-over on in thirty years. I'll eat darn near anything. Must have had a tablespoon of salt. ""Maybe they accidentally salted twice"" the server offered. Second effort was fine. Simple pasta was $19.00. Again, not a neighborhood price scale.\r Server waa knowledgeable and helpful, but no followup by chef or manager for a pretty obvious mistake.\r \r Sad and disappointing. Many meals at the N.W. namesake, and always well done. This cousin or whatever it is needs to realize that just because Beaverton is so dominated by chains of mediocre food, folks still want, value, seek and will pay for well done efforts. Hope for better! Pros: One of few creative meals in Beaverton Cons: Priced like the Pearl, but lacking control and care more

We Think It's the Best Italian Food in Beaverton 2/24/2009

We love Mingo in Beaverton for lots of reasons (comfortable, warm space ... great patio in the summer ... really nice staff ... always good food). In my opinion, they make the best pizza in town. My favorite Mingo pizza is made with heirloom tomatoes, a small amount of cheese and crispy prosciutto. The crust is thin and crisp ... always cooked to perfection. They only make this pizza when heirloom tomatoes are in season so we go to Mingo as often as possible during that time of year. They do make excellent ""other"" kinds of pizzas all year long! My husband's two favorite dishes at Mingo are their fresh halibut (when in season) and their sugo pasta. more

The Best Train Stop in Oregon 2/21/2009

Mingo is at it's best when it keeps true to it vision of simple Italian food -- house infused olive oil with a perfect chunk of bread, a trio of rice croquettes with just a touch of red sauce and a sprig of Italian parsley, a glass of wine and a little plate with 2 slices of perfect cheese and a sliced apple, tomato soup, a sublime cream of garlic soup, a perfect burger with a cold Italian lager, grilled polenta drizzled with olive oil, and on and on with any number of plated marvels. The lovely bartender, Monica, is kind, attentive, knowledgeable and makes beautiful cocktails, whether she is mixing the perfect Manhattan or one of her own design with fresh juices, or making a very knowing wine suggestion, it is not just a drink but an extraordinarily civilized end to the day. All these little wonders make this the greatest train stop in Oregon. I do not just enjoy Mingo, Mingo sustains my faith in the human experience. \r \r more

Love the happy hour 2/20/2009

This is one of the best happy hours in the area. Monica is the bartender and always suggests the best wines to sample. She's attentive, without being intrusive. In fact, all of the wait staff is exceptional. The food is delicious and always fresh. The dishes are very creative and they use local ingredients whenever possible. This is one of my favorite places to meet friends after work or impress a first date. Pros: Happy hour wines Cons: Small bar area, but that's part of the fun. more

Yummy Italian Food, Accommodating Staff 2/19/2009

This is a gem of a spot...small, stylish interior, looking out onto the fountain area at the Round in Beaverton. It's right on the Max line with a parking garage just across the way for nights there's overflow in the parking lot. In summer, they open the ""garage"" style doors onto the plaza, adding to the ambiance. We've eaten lunch and dinner several times here over the last five years (although I believe lunch has been deleted recently due to everyone's belt tightening). Food shouldn't have to be complicated to make for a successful dining experience and here, it comes from a kitchen where people seem to really love to cook for others. I grew up in the restaurant business and know how difficult it is to get it right...nothing like trying to make droves of hungry people happy, night after night. You do it because you love it, and it shows with the partners and wait staff. And I hate to mention it because they're hard enough to get into as it is but they host very convivial winemaker dinners where you get to meet the Italian maker of the wines served during the evening meal. It's a closed door affair - reservations required - and is just a small group of about 25 people making new friends, enjoying a nice meal and getting to know Italian wines. Inquire about it next time you go. Pros: Nice size servings, yummy food (not too heavy pastas), authentic contemporary Italian Cons: A little noisy in the winter evenings, when the place is jumpin'. more

21st little secret got out 2/14/2009

Love this place, amazing food featuring northwest seasonal ingredients. I found my favorate bottle of barossa wine here, and a great place for a date. Just make sure you get a reservation on the weekends and if you dont just have a drink at the bar next door...again love it!!!!!!!!! Pros: friendly wine selection Cons: not big enough, even though bar mingo is next door more

Glorious Food 1/12/2009

I have lived in San Francisco, New York and Paris and Mingo's in Beaverton is one of my favorite places to dine. The food is always hot and expertly prepared. The staff is pleasant and friendly and will gladly prepare dishes the way you may prefer them. Try the Sugo which takes 12 hours to prepare or, if luck is on your side, the seafood pasta in lemon horseradish sauce it epic. The wine list can be expensive, but if you ask for help a less expensive alternative is always recommended and never never sneered at. It is just one of the happiest experiences on earth. Now go! Pros: Epic food, the staff that always remembers you, windows open to the outdoors in spring and summer Cons: Parking can be difficult on Friday and Saturday nights more

Trust me it's good 1/6/2009

If you don't like this place, you probably belong at the olive garden. I understand that the portions are small, but you should probably grow up and understand that to eat quality food, you will end up spending more money than usual. For two people we spent about 79 bucks, for appetizers, salads, entrees and cheese course. I expect to pay that much for quality a dinner of this caliber. I know it is kind of hard to park there, but think about this, it is ON the max line, do I even need to explain anymore? The food is fresh, the proteins are from LOCAL farms, which surpass most other meats. If you think that $79 is spending too much money on a dinner, you probably don't understand the work or cost that goes into making a new special everyday, and getting the quality of ingredients that they obtain. This might be the one of the only worthwhile places in Beaverton. Pros: Excellent true Italian, Good pizza, good pasta Cons: parking more

Mingo is great 12/28/2008

I have always enjoyed cafe mingo. The food is wonderful and the small and intimate atmosphere is charming. The owner and host can sometimes be quite snobby, but overall, the experience is very nice. I also love the addition of Bar Mingo next door. It is a great place to grab a drink and relax with wonderful small plate food. Overall I would have to say that dining at Mingo is very nice and Bar Mingo is great too, and serves its purpose quite well. Cafe Mingo could definitely work on its pasta, there is better pasta in Portland, and for an Italian cafe, that would seem key, but the overall menu and items are great. I say go and enjoy. Pros: Intimate, Charmin Cons: A touch snobby and rude more
