Mick's is the most beautiful cafe in Los Angeles 2/14/2011

To start off, let's talk about Mick's coffee. His coffee drinks are double shot espressos, whether it be an Americano, Macchiato, Cappuccino, Cafe Latte, Espresso, etc. You've never had coffee like this before, and I promise you won't go back to whatever you were drinking before! The first time I ordered an Americano (2 shots espresso and hot water) I almost sent it back because there was this brown foam on top. Later I learned that it is what is called the coffee ""bloom"", or:\r ""Brewed coffee continues to evolve or bloom, through aromatics rising to the surface and escaping and acids combining and reforming into new ones. These changes affect how we perceive acidity, sweetness and aroma in the cup.""\r ...basically, it's a concentration of flavor! You won't find that at Starbucks!\r \r The magic happens even before the coffee is ground - ancient English lore tells a story of a wise sorcerer that fused his magic into food to create ambrosia. He was notably careful in extracting and choosing his provisions to create the ultimate elixir of life itself! \r \r Mick is that man.\r \r All jokes aside, he creates a magnificent blend of coffee that trumps ANY corporate, bitter, tasteless, burnt coffee blends any other coffee places in the area carry (*ahem: Starbucks, Coffee Bean, etc).\r \r It all starts with the gear: straight from Italy, the LaCimbali espresso machine. It's right behind the register in plain view of all its glory. I've researched this particular machine and it costs thousands of dollars! Quality my friends, that's what Mick delivers. \r \r All coffee aside, what about the food? Mick's careful attention to detail and passion for quality extends to not just the coffee, but the food, the English garden, the heated hallways, the dog friendly atmosphere (*service dogs only ;D ), the cast iron sturdy chairs and tables (with cushions and throws of course), and last but not least the friendly and down to earth staff. \r \r Mick's Cafe is a gentle, quaint, quality gem in the Palisades. I've talked to many people about Mick's and most don't even know about it! You haven't lived unless you've tried out this place! Whether it's on a weekday or weekend or you want to have a private business meeting in the corner, this place is for you. The beautiful atmosphere extends from the rose gardens into its patrons. You will feel divine here. If you haven't checked it out I suggest you do!\r \r Often frequently compared to the privacy and elegance of the Bel Air hotel, Mick's Cafe maintains that same seclusion, charm, and privacy. I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates the finer things in life. more

Fabulous Hidden Treasure 12/8/2010

I heard from a friend that there was a charming cafe tucked away in the Palisades, she said it reminded her of a secret garden somewhere in Europe.OMG! was she ever right,I walked in and felt transported.I sat down in the outdoor area which is a beautiful trellised garden and ordered lunch.A Caprese open-faced sandwich and the House salad....fabulous.The greens were organic and the balsamic dressing was the best I've ever had.Run ...dont walk to this hidden treasure.P.S. The latte was the best outside of Rome! more
