Out of the way Gem in Kemah 3/31/2011

This is a great Thai restaurant in Kemah Texas.\r The food is fresh, authentic and delicious.\r They came back from Hurrican Ike and they continued to deliver the best Thai food. Plus the staff is attentive and personal. Exceptional experience. more

RE-OPENED In FEB 2009 10/4/2009

This restaurant has re-opened as of Feb 2009. They are now located at 1301 4th Street, Seabrook, Texas 77535. 281-385-9975.\r \r They now have a full bar and it's the same great food. Serving food late Tu-W & Su - 5P-12M & Th-SA - 5P-2A. more

CLOSED -- Victim of Hurricane Ike 9/26/2008

Merlion's is closed, at least for the time being. The restaurant tragically fell victim to Hurricane Ike, and was completely demolished by the storm. We drove by the location two days after the storm, and were shocked to find only scraps of timbers laying on the lot of the former restaurant. more

Great place, but ask the price of the wine! 8/30/2008

We have been regular guests of Merlion for almost 2 years. I took some friends tonight for a great dinner.\r One poor server was waiting on 11 tables at one time,\r We were offered a tasting of several wines and chose a bottle.\r We ordered an appetizer, an inexpensive main course and a dessert shared by 3 people.\r I was presented a bill for $ 326.00! This included 2 bottles of wine @ $95 a bottle! I felt like we were taken advantage of. They have no wine list and no prices.\r We intend to go back though...the food is great!\r Pros: Great owners-great food Cons: Never enough waitstaff more

Lucky to find Merlion - extremely lucky it's in the Clear Lake area! 1/22/2008

Wow, just stumbled upon Merlion, have eaten there twice and LOVE it! So rare to find an excellent restaurant in the Clear Lake/Bay Area. It's not a chain (thank goodness!), it's got a wonderful eclectic atmosphere (in a bungalow across from the water and not in the Kemah boardwalk noise-filled district), superior Thai food cooked to order, wine that can be tasted before buying, very friendly and knowledgable waitstaff, parking lot and street parking, a jazz duo the recent Saturday evening I was there. I can't say enough positive things about this restaurant - I will be wearing it out for years to come! If you have an issue, idea, complaint, request - the staff is ready to accommodate you. First class service and food - what more do you need to hear?! Do make a reservation if you want to make sure you'll get a table... Pros: Food, atmosphere, location, waitstaff Cons: None for me more

Everything a wonderful dining experience should be 10/9/2007

In short: This is a delightful and exceptional restaurant experience. The food can be described as Thai ""with a twist"" and it is outstanding. The best comparision I could provide is a ""fusion"" of a highly skilled Thai chef with ""formal"" French training. Thai food is about balance - not just heat - and this chef masters the technique. The wait staff is attentive without hovering over the tables. The wine list is short - but quite unique and fairly priced. Ambiance is present in this small house setting - which has a ""romance"" all its own. The 'beat' of the meal is relaxed and enjoyable. We had an outstanding evening!! First rate. Pros: Ambiance is great and romantic. Exceptional food! Cons: Parking can be a challenge more

Thai food & ambiance unbeatable. A dining experience 6/21/2007

My husband & I were recommended to Merlion. We had the most wonderful evening in this charming 1920's cottage by the Merlion Lagoon. We went to our first wine tasting dinner ...Incredible, the lamb was succulent as was the Kobe beef. The waiters were gracious, fun and most of all extremely knowledgeable. The wine list is superb and they have chosen wines from all over the world. We had lived in Thailand for many years and my husband & I both agree that Chef Andrews food is the best Thai food in the world. Thankyou everyone who made our night magical. Hats off to Merlion Pros: great food, romantic, fun, quirky Cons: They need to open in Houston more

Perfect! 6/13/2007

Thoroughly enjoyed the dinning experience! Service was great and the food is even better. Sampled several wine offerings, all very good. Ambience is unique and quaint. Best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand. I now have a new favorite. Pros: Small boutique restaraunt, food is made to your tastes Cons: plenty of parking but much of it curbside more

the most relaxing dining experience I have ever had 6/10/2007

I have never posted an opinion/review on a restaurant but after dining here I couldn't wait to get home and tell all. This place was recommended to my wife and I and we weren't sure what to expect, what to order, what to wear. I read some reviews on Merlion and they were all positive and took some of the info from them to help us order wine and such. NO NEED. We were able to sample various French wines , choose one of our liking and all that was left was decide on what to eat. Another thing we took the easy road on and ordered what was recomended by our friend. We had the chef special and everything was great. Believe me we had no idea what we were doing there and the staff was so helpful in making our dining experience the most relaxing and authentic one possible. We felt very welcomed and carried on conversations w/ all of the staff like we were regulars. My wife and I will be regulars here because it was a perfect evening w/ great food , wine and conversation. more

Absolutely the best Thai quisine I've ever had.... 2/16/2007

Madeline and Chris were nothing short of perfect. The food was perfectly prepared (a lobster and salmon dish special) and the vanilla bean cheesecake desert was fantastic. My wife and I will come back again for sure (they are relocating not far away into bigger digs) the next time in Houston. A must try for anyone going to the Houston area. Pros: everything about the dining experience Cons: zero complaints more

Best Thai Food Found 1/17/2007

This is the best Thai food I have found. If you have tried Thai before and did not have a good experience with the food then you need to make Merlion your second stop. I have tried Thai coast to coast and luckly this restaurant is located near by where I live. If you have a favorite Thai restaurant in or around Houston and swear it is the best I challenge you to try Merlion. I have gone up and down the menu trying everything and have not been let down yet. The chef seems to have a unique style that differs from other Thai Restaurants. This is a sit down, order a bottle, enjoy the food, kind of place. more

Best Thai Ever 1/17/2007

My fiance and I go every chance we get . It's a little far away, but the Phad Thai is worth the drive. Great place to go for a first date or even a romantic night. The chicken with avocado is to die for along with cheese cream with crag egg roll. Best tasting authentic Thai cuisine. more

Absolutely Fantastic!!! 4/14/2006

This place serves the best thai food!! The chef prepares each meal individually so you get the hottest and freshest dish. Because of the location of the place there is fresh seafood that is brought in daily. Try the panang or kan kua with lobster or shrimp. Its too yummy!!! more

It's the anti-fertittaville 2/14/2006

Had a perfect Valentine's night meal. $40 per person plus wine. Fixed menu. Single roses on the table for the ladies. Champagne toast. My wife and I met another couple and we all had something different for main course and dessert. Everyone loved everything that was served. The food was perfectly flavorful spicy, not hot spicy, but they can ""heat it up"" as required. Fish, lamb, beef, shrimp, were all perfectly tender and moist. Stay on NR1 across 146 about 1/2 mile and stop at the pink house on RHS. Pros: easy parking, friendly staff, charming more

Just Go 1/7/2006

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Great food, great service and cozy atmoshere. Get the chef's special and just enjoy. The wine is also reasonable priced. Cons: Great Food, Great Service, Wow more

the BEST thai food in the houston area. 10/24/2005

It may be a far drive for most people, but it's definitely worth it. The cottage is nestled in a quiet waterfront street near nasa rd 1 and fm 146 (road to kemah). it has a warm cozy feel, like fine dining in your own home. the entire staff is just delightful and friendly. of course the best part is the food! the panang is flavorful, aromatic, and not too sweet. the seafood is always cooked just right. the raad prik (red snapper with chili sauce) has a wonderful kick to it. oh and i love the corn cakes...crispy with an interesting sauce to it. the satay is always fresh off the grill. the small selection of sorbets and cheesecakes is a great way to finish off the meal. not very thai-ish, but still decadent nonetheless. Pros: great food, atmosphere, friendly staff more
