Growing up in Hilo, Dr. Matsuura's dream was to follow his mother's footsteps and become a doctor who would care for his ohana (family) and the community that raised him. Today, his orthopaedic practice is dedicated to patients of all ages and lifestyles with conditions and injuries to the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle, foot, including: bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. Dr. Matsuura offers non- operative management and state of the art surgical procedures to help redefine people's lives following injury or at the onset of an orthopaedic condition. His caring style gives patients a broader perspective and understanding of their orthopaedic condition, while presenting the options for choosing the "best" orthopaedic care. "Best", as he defines it, is "personal and appropriate" care that will guide them back to a healthy and active lifestyle. From arthritis, sports injuries, fractures and sprains to tendonitis, bursitis, nerve injuries, overuse injuries and work-related injuries, Dr. Matsuura's goal is to provide his patients with sensible and appropriate care. Backed by extensive training and many years of experience using the most advanced techniques, Dr. Matsuura delivers excellence in all aspects of orthopaedic treatment. As a trained Sports Medicine Specialist, he specializes in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. Dr. Matsuura served as Hawaii's State Surgeon from 2006-2012 and Commander of the Medical Detachment. As Colonel in the Hawaii Army National Guard, he completed three deployments to Iraq and Germany where he served with the U.S. Army's state-of-the-art surgical teams treating orthopaedic trauma and war wounds and caring for American service men and women.
