Solid Choice for Basic Italian 12/17/2008

We lived here for several years before we learned about Mama's. It's usually easy to get in to, even on a busy night (but we have had to wait a few times). It's not a fancy joint, it's a friendly place tucked into the back corner of that shopping center. All of the sauces are made from scratch daily and they cover the bases well. Pizza is very good too--something we didn't learn until we'd gone there several times. more

Powell's BEST kept secret 3/24/2006

We stumbled upon Mama Zarella's over a year ago, and it quickly became one of our favorite restaurants! Each time we go in, the staff remembers us, and like to get to know us. The food is excellent, and all made to order. It has great ambience, and a decent sized wine list. It's not that large, so expect to have a wait on friday and saturday nights, but I must say, the wait is truly worth it! If they're busy, don't expect to get in and out in under an hour. A meal on a weekend night usually takes us over an hour, which is fine with us! I highly recommend you check this place out! more

Mama Zarella's is a well-kept Powell secret. 3/18/2006

Perhaps it's the corner store-front location that is the problem. Perhaps it's the simple decor you notice if you peek in the window. It certainly is not because of the food. The food here is excellent! Sauces are made-from-scratch fresh and are delicious! All of the homemade pastas are a real treat. The served here is better than my own - which is saying something! The prices are very reasonable and it's easy to get to with lots of parking. Do not be deceived by the location/decor...check it out! more
