So Much Fun! 11/20/2005

Maine Discovery Museum is the best place for children to learn through active hands on play. They have a 20 foot Maine water ecosystem and a two story tree house. They have live animals and really fun activities for young children daily. The young at heart will enjoy hugging the three bears when they explore the bedroom scene from the Good Night Moon book. Young and old will have fun exploring the whole day away! more

Maine Discovery Museum 10/12/2005

The Maine Discovery Museum, in downtown Bangor, is the largest children's museum north of Boston. There are three floors of hands-on exhibits, and it is a fun experience for the entire family. Walk through parts of the body and give doll babies a checkup, put on a puppet show and see yourself on tv, visit the house from the book Goodnight Moon, and much more. There is also a snack room for when the kids (and adults!) need a break, and you can also have birthday parties at the museum. Definitely a must-see if you have small children and plan to visit the Greater Bangor area. more

I love this place. 9/12/2005

I have only been here twice however both times I have found it very intriguing. They have great activities for the kids which keep them entertained for hours. They also have a room that you can rent and hold Birthday parties in. The prices seem a little high and that is why I have only been their twice. They do however have a season pass which would more than pay for itself after two uses with a family of five. The parking isn't that great... It is right on Main street. more

Hours of fun! 8/18/2005

This is a great museum and has alot more to offer than the childresn museum in Portland. It's very well organized and extremely clean. You should give yourself at least four hours to do and see all there is.Some of our sons favorites were;the garden where kids can plant and sow fake veggies, the camping site(complete with tent),and the pretend play area that had stores, ect. He also loved getting his "passport" stamped at each station. That is a great idea. You can be sure you havent missed anything! more

Lots to Discover at Maine Discovery Museum!! 6/19/2005

Bangor, Maine has one of the most impressive children's museums, The Maine Discovery Museum, I have ever seen. It is all the more impressive being that one would be surprised to see a children's museum at all in Bangor, much less one that can hold its own against similar museums in very large areas. The museum is three floors, and three fairly good-sized floors, of fun and learning for children up to about twelve. Inside are seven exhibit areas - Nature Trails, Passport to the World, Booktown, Sounds Abound, Artscape, Mission Discovery and Body Journey. Each offers something for younger and older kids. Our favorite is the 20-foot model river were the kids can put on smocks (to keep dry) and build dams and race boats. There's no restaurant in the museum, but you can brown bag it in the snack room, which has vending machines. If you haven't been to downtown Bangor in a while, expect to be impressed with the quality and quantity of the eating places and shops. We have been a reciprocal member of the Maine Discovery Museum for a few years. This also allows us to visit other participating children's museums and science centers nationwide. When we travel we visit all the participating museums and science centers that are on the list - the membership has more than paid for itself more
