Great Steak and Seafood! 4/15/2009

My family has been going into maglebys for quite some time now for special family events, and they always deliver great food! The last time i went, i ordered the orange roughy, and it was very good, it was encrusted in macadamia nuts and had some sweet glaze on top, a great fish especially for Utah. They are also one of my favorite places for shrimp! Their gourmet shrimp is excelent! I would highly recommend Maglebys' to any lover of seafood and great steak. And to correct the gentlemen in the previous review. Doc is still very much involved in the management of Magleby's. He has been there almost everytime we have gone in greeting people and thanking them for coming in. From what i understand his son took over because Doc is too old to run it by himself. Pros: Amazing quality seafood for Utah Cons: A little on the pricey side. more

Great service....great food 4/14/2009

i took my family of 6 for dinner and loved that the kids menu was only 3.99 and 4.99 and the kids got drinks and ice cream...WOW.....i tried the smothered rib eye and loved it...my wife had the halibut, and it was just as good as last time we were there. My son had the prime rib sandwich and it was only 11.00 at dinner, it was awesome...if in provo dont miss this place....and save room for the chocolate cake Pros: award-winning desserts Cons: too much food more

If you liked Maglebys When Doc Owned it.. Cherish those memories and go elsewhere 9/9/2008

To me, the place looks like a big 1950s cafeteria. Pretty close to zero ambience. The food, for what you get it super overpriced and it you dont order $100.00 worth of food the servers barely give you the time of day. I loved the old Maglebys and Doc never ever failed to make me feel at home and welcome. It was an experience.. the new Maglebys is just an overpriced place to eat. Pros: I didnt get ptomaine. Cons: Over priced, not a great value, service lacking, mediocre ambience. more

New Ownership and Guest Service has gone way down. 4/1/2008

We have eaten here many times in the past and tonight was a whole differant experiance. We ordered and received our food fairly soon and the food tasted good. It was with our check that things fell apart. We were using a discount card and when we requested our check the discount card was taken. We waited at least 10 minutes before the waitress came back with the actual check. We noticed that the discount was not given and asked about it. She left the table and said that she would take care of it. At least another 15 minutes went by and we were still waiting for the receipt. She finally came back and said that she had lost our discount card. We asked to speak to the manager at that time. The manager came out and said that he would still honor the discount and wanted to make it right by offering to comp our drinks. My husband asked also for a slice of cake since the wait had been so long. The manager agreed and said he would be happy to do that for us. He came back a few minutes later and said the drinks were comp enough and that they would not give us the slice of cake. Ok..... I know that it is not that big of deal but, to say ok to the cake and then come back and say NO CAKE FOR YOU, we thought was really petty. I can see if we had asked for our meal free or something extreme but a piece of cake!!! How much does that really cost them? On the way out my husband asked to talk to the owner and this is when we found out that Doc is not the owner anymore but it is his son. The owner was very rude when told about the situation and did not care to have us leave on a good note even though he was told we would not return due to the poor servcice we received. Doc would have never treated us as just customers, we would have been treated as guests! Not recommended with the new ownership! Pros: Location Cons: Service, Ownership more

Very disappointed... 12/29/2007

Well, first off I'd like to tell you about the oysters, especially considering this is supposed to be an oyster bar, but unfortunately our waitress never brought them to our table. And that was just the beginning of an entire meal of mistakes from the waitress not asking which side dish we wanted or which salad dressing when taking our order, forgotten side dishes, undercooked chopped sirloin that was taken back to the kitchen and never returned to our table, etc... We finally were fed up and complained to the manager, who to our dismay, looked about 21, had bright red hair dye on portions of his head and very disheveled clothing...very unprofessional. He apologized for the terrible service and gave us some gift certificates, but I doubt we'll even return to use them. If the food had been excellent, it would have made up a little for the terrible service, however, the food was not very good either. The lettuce on the fish tacos was brown, the chopped sirloin was drowned in grease, the chicken pesto special had no pesto flavor at all, they were out of romaine lettuce for the blackened chicken salad and the cake, which they are supposedly very famous for, tasted stale and dry, like it was from the day before and had been sitting out. There was nothing special about this place and from the experience we had, we won'te be recommending it or returning there. Pros: Good location. Cons: Terrible service, mediocre food. more

Very disappointed with the service 3/12/2007

I have been to this restaurant before and the food is great. but the service....We ordered the all you can eat crab special after we ordered and our food was brought out we were informed we could only get One refill as they ran out of snow crab and were substituting king crab. Why couldn't they have told us before our food came out? Manager smoothed it over and all was good so we thought. Pros: Food Cons: service, Hospitality, Value more

When it's important 12/8/2005

Magleby's is a very conscientiously run restaurant. The food is perfect, and the place is romantic without being ostentatious. The owner takes a special interest in his guests, you'll never be sorry you chose this restaurant for a special evening out. more
