  • The Scene
Innkeepers Lark and Michael McCarley bought this gorgeous, 1882 Second Empire home in 2000. Michael came to it with a background in furniture restoration, and was instrumental in the renovation, while Lark lent the spirit of one of her ancestor's, the famous 17th-century poet Richard Lovelace. Lovelace and his works inspired the names of the B&B and its rooms. Welcoming porches, 12-foot ceilings and etched glass doors are among the many architectural highlights.

    The Details
Done in soothing pale colors, the bedrooms are romantic without being frilly or fussy. Among them are The Lucasta Room, with beautiful white bedding and light wood floors; The Ellinda Room, whose four-poster bed has a hand-knotted canopy top; and The Rose Room, featuring a handmade brass bed, electric fireplace and original 1882 bathroom with claw-foot tub. Accommodations feature modern amenities that include TVs with VCRs, CD players and phones. A full breakfast is served in the dining room, and complimentary afternoon refreshments can be enjoyed in the Victorian parlor or on one of the porches. A masseuse is on call for Swedish massages. The game room includes a billiards table.
