Awful customer service 12/1/2009

I will never do business with Leonard Building & Truck Accessories in Yorktown, Va., again. I recently purchased a trailer hitch and wiring harness for a late-model pickup from this company. I chose to do business locally instead of online for two reasons. First, I wanted to give my business to a local company. Second, if there was an issue with the equipment, I preferred to work with a local dealer/company so I could deal with any problems face-to-face. Boy was I mistaken. Not only did I pay considerably more by pursuing the local option, but when the wiring harness that I purchased proved defective, I got the cold shoulder from the salesman. He seemed more interested in his paperwork on the counter than dealing with someone looking for satisfaction concerning defective merchandise purchased at his shop. His solution, after purchasing this $70 part, was that he does not warranty electrical components, and that only if his service center installed a plug-and-play harness that takes literally minutes to clip in place, would he honor any sort of warranty. When I suggested that he contact the manufacturer for assistance, he told me that would be a great idea and that I should, in fact, do so. I should mention that I have the sales receipt, and it says nothing about lack of coverage for electrical parts. Further, I have in fact contacted the manufacturer, Curt Mfg, and the service technician asked me a few questions and then put a replacement harness, tested at the factory, in the mail the same day. That's a company that stands by its product, unlike Leonard Building & Truck Accessories who is more concerned about a quick buck than customer satisfaction. Rest assured, I will make sure everyone I know stays away from this company. They're not worth anyone's time or effort. Cons: Don't guarantee their products more

Yorktown Leonard 10/26/2009

Recently bought a Leer 800 truck bed cover. Really nice cover but what a pain getting it. It arrived ~2 weeks after placing my deposit and I took my truck in to have it installed. Four hours later that called to say they w=ere done but, oh by the way, the cover is damaged and if I don't accept it, it will have to be returned to the factory. Considering what the cover cost, I had it removed and returned. It returned 5 weeks later (7 week since I placed the order). I opted for the keyless entry (additional $200) as the dealer told me this would be connected to my existing key FOB. Note this cover does not have a latch, you can only open it with a key. Anyway, they connected it to the passenger door so it open on the 2nd click of the key FOB. However, it pops open every time you open the passenger door. And you can't close it until you push the lock button a 2nd time, which requires that the driver's door be closed. This means that I would have to open the passenger doors, let the passengers in, close all the doors, lock all the doors, that manually latch the cover, then open just the driver's door so I can get in. Anyway, I had them rewire it to function of the provided key FOB, so I now have to carry around two key FOB's... not a really big deal, but not what the dealer told me and not what I paid $200 for. Anyway, after I got the truck home I inspected the installation and found many problems. They did not adjust any of the cover stops and more importantly, the wiring harness in my brand new truck was yanked from the harness bundle and at least ten wires were so frayed from stabbing them with a test light that they are nearly broken. They didn't tape any of these bare wires up and they didn't even push them back into the harness cover. Really sloppy workmanship. Pros: Nice variety Cons: Really sloppy installation more
