Just A Word 6/15/2002

I rate them as FAIR for a mechanical doughnut maker. Nothing will ever top the original DIXIE CREME shop that was in St. Paul on University. Some of the creations with filling and icing can be too sweet. I also think they need to let the doughnuts rise a little more before cooking. They are too thin. Pros: Good service Cons: too sweet - donuts, too small, poor value for $$$ more

How can anyone not like these little gem 6/8/2002

Granted, when there is no line--as there wasn't when I was there before bar rush on a Saturday night--it is easier to like the place, but COME ON: what donut shop can offer a product so fresh that it melts in your mouth? I didn't care much for their "crueller" (I used to work in a bakery & to us that was a french donut), but 2 things distinguish this place from all others: each type of donut has its own distinct flavor and NONE of their doughnuts leave your mouth with a waxy coating. I CANNOT WAIT for the Mall of America store late this summer... Pros: distinctive, consistant, fresh more

Soul Food. 6/2/2002

These are just plain sublime. Never mind that you can drive to Clear Lake, IA, and spend less time...they won't be hot! They are apparently glazed with a magic potion that does not leave that nasty waxy feeling in your mouth that other glazed doughnuts do. Some things are not meant to be "healthy;" doughnuts are one of those things, and these are The Best. Try the hot cinnamon buns, too. more

It really isnt worth waiting 30 minutes or longer for. Give it some time and the lines will die down and reality will set in. more

The McDonald's of Pastry 5/28/2002

Everyone enjoys a McDonald's hamburger every now and again. It is convenient, tastes alright and fills you up. However, a McDonald's hamburger can never compare the burgers you get at any Champps, TGI Fridays, or what you grill in the back yard. Krispy Kreme doughnuts are the "McDonald's of Pastry". I will not deny that they taste good, but I have found the glazed doughnuts at any local bakery to be just as good if not better. Not to mention that Krispy Kremes are small and perfectly round. I don't know about you, but if I am gonna eat a doughnut, I want it to be big and sticky and messy. Oh, and the microwave trick that everyone raves about works with any doughnut. Pros: Tastes Good Cons: Inconvenient wait, Wasted drive, Local bakery better more

You decide 5/28/2002

I don't know what the big deal is about these things. I think that the glazed doughnuts are no different than any other glazed except that they are smaller. The filled doughnuts however were very good!! The fillings were fresh and tasted real and not artificial-again they were smaller than the competitors. Pros: fresh Cons: smaller more

it's just a donut 5/25/2002

Krispy cremes are good and very light, but it's just a donut and it's smaller than your average one.I would'nt go and stand in line for an hour or more for them. more

Get over it! 5/20/2002

Yes, I'll agree that KK has good doughnuts but come on. I have been hearing about it on every radio and T.V. station for over a month now. Someone told me that they stood in line for almost 2 hours for 12 doughnuts when it 1st opened. I wouldn't even stand outside the King of Diamonds for 2 hours if they were giving out free dances. Personally, I would have a hard time admitting that I was that into doughnuts soooo much that I got up early, blew off work, or didn't have anything better to do than sit in line for more than 10 minutes for a doughnut. To each they're own I guess. more

  • In Short
In 1937, Vernon Rudolph brought a secret recipe from a French chef to North Carolina, creating the infamous irresistible treat and starting a glazed doughnut revolution. These scrumptious doughy delights are brushed with a sugar coating, and have been know to cause even the most dedicated hard-bodies to temporarily abandon their diet. Evolving past the original glaze recipe, today customers can now choose from a variety of lip smacking treats, from apple fritter to New York cheesecake doughnuts. The international company still holds to its roots, providing welcoming and helpful service while perfecting its craft at making melt-in-your-mouth masterpieces.
