I love kona! It's a bit pricey, but their happy hour is wonderful! Half price pizzas, sushi, appetizers (which are big enough to be meals). Also, half price saki, cosmos, appletin...

Reverse Happy Hour Back...Not Sure if That's a Good Thing... 6/13/2011

Just went in this weekend and had a great lunch on the patio. Learned that reverse happy hour is back. We stay away from this place during that time as it's usually full of people that don't know what a saki-bomb is except for the fact that it gets them saki-bombed of their mind. Love this place when it's quite, steer clear when it's packed. more

Good Food, Good Service, Pricey 11/28/2010

I went into Kona for the first time last week just to check it out. I guess they were having Happy Hour because the patio was loud and crazy. My boyfriend and I decided to sit in the dining room so we could actually talk. Our server was a pretty young girl, I doubt she'd been working there long but she seemed very honest and respectful, despite being nervous. She suggested the avocado eggrolls and oh man, they've got to be my new favorite food. Bottom line: food is good, prices are a little high ($4 for edamame?), and service is adequate. more

thumbs up 9/30/2010

You have to love Kona grill. The food is fantastic and the drinks are always up to par. Great choice for after work. more

Food's okay, but it's a nice hang out place 3/17/2010

The hosts were especially nice, the food was okay (nothing impressive), but the staff was the reason I gave it three stars. They were nice, welcoming, and easy on the eyes! I'd go there for reverse happy hour (it's 21 and up, so don't be surprised if you're carded by their body guard) and that's about it. Pros: Staff is attractive Cons: Food sucks! more

Two Thumbs Down 2/24/2010

Went to Kona for dinner last week. The hostesses were unwelcoming, the menu selections are terrible...nothing even sounded appetizing. The food was worse- rice was dried out, chicken tasted frozen. Service was slow. I now know why it was half empty while Cheesecake and Grimaldi's had one hour waits! Will never spend money here again. Pros: outdoor seating Cons: food, menu, pricing, service, attitude more

NOT WORTH THE PRICE GO FOR HAPPY HOUR OR NOT! 3/1/2009

Walking into the restaurant it seems pretty roomy and nice big booths and a giant fish tank in both the Sugarland and Galleria area but food wise I believe you DON'T get what you pay for. Very pricey food for not great food quality. I decided to try an entree for dinner and since it was a slow Sunday night I believed it would come out pretty fast. Although it was quick the Sea Bass infused with miso flavoring or so what the menu described was not worth $23. You could get a better meal at TGI Friday's or Chili's for better and cheaper.Getting back to the Sea Bass I believe it was marinated too long and it was tough and overcooked. It wasn't flaky or buttery for a white fish and it was not best quality. The fish on the other the server didn't even know sea bass sushi from sea bass entree, but he did know what toro was. I also ordered a miso soup which was the worst! Miso was sooo dark you would think it was clam chowder! Salty and the cubes of tofu was hard yuck! When I told ther server he looked at it like I was lying, I can make miso at home and if someone sits at the sushi bar then I would think they know their sushi. The sushi bar was empty no fish and it looked like they closed early it was round 8 pm when I ordered. I had so much high hoped for this restaurant me and my friends came in for happy hour and it looked fresh and lively but I guess its just the bar and patio side. My server seemed preoccupied and nice. I order a mango mojito and voss water and he didn't even offer to open the water and pour it out at the very least. People were cleaning around the kitchen and mopping the floor when I started my meal and the smell or bleach just ruined the ambiance the fish quality was alright but nothing comparably to other sushi bars. For Kona to have sushi is a shame and the food was terrible for the selling price either get your stuff together or lower your prices. Service was not good barely decent please have more professional servers. Bring shame to sushi bars. Pros: Average ambiance farely good price happy hour Cons: Service, sushi, food more

Ok I will just say stay away! 11/28/2008

Don't waste your time. Pros: You get to eat with your hands because the servers forgot to bring you utensils, so your being green right?! Cons: Freshness of food, painfully slow service, horribly overpriced! more

My favorite restaurant of all time! 7/31/2008

I love kona! It's a bit pricey, but their happy hour is wonderful! Half price pizzas, sushi, appetizers (which are big enough to be meals). Also, half price saki, cosmos, appletinis, and domestic beer. Pros: food, happy hour, atmosphere Cons: happy hour service (but the servers have 9 tables at a time on the patio and bar so I won't ever complain) more

One of the Best Sugar Land Happy Hour Spots ! 6/2/2007

I really love the happy hour atmosphere at this Sugar Land Town Center restaurant. more

Very Good 4/29/2007

The food is great! I have not tasted anything bad at this restaurant. The macadamia nut crusted chicken is wonderful and the Big Island meatloaf is some of the best I've had anywhere- great combination of meats. The prices are really reasonable, and the portions are huge. Pros: food Cons: parking at the mall, location more

wonderful 10/6/2006

great wine selection, food is great, sushi is good also the tai peanut sauce noodles are good. biggest brownie ever. more

good service...thats about it 9/19/2006

i was so excited that there would finally be another place in the galleria. i went a few weeks after it opened and was very dissapointed. the sushi tasted like it came from a buffet and there was such a random combination of dishes on the menu. i will say that the server who waited on us was amazing. fun, funny, helpful. Pros: service Cons: food more

Won't be back anytime soon, unless for happy hour! 8/28/2006

Went there for lunch but we should have waited till happy hour! Great decor, but food was only so so, drinks were expensive, and service wasn't that great (and they weren't busy). more

Waste of Money and Time!! 8/13/2006

My boyfriend and I went there this past Sunday to enjoy a new restaurant. We had the potstickers to start off with, which were enjoyable. For our main course, he ordered the Sweet-Glazed Chicken Breast and I ordered the Chicken Wrap. What a mistake!! His meal should've been called a pigeon breast since it was so small. My wrap had huge pieces of VERY bland chicken! I sent my plate back after tasting it once since chewing the chicken was similiar to having gum in my mouth. I then ordered the Pad Thai noodles with shrimp. By the time my noodles came, my boyfriend had finished his pigeon breast and was watching me as I started to eat. Again, I was shocked at how bad the noodles were. They were undercooked and had a really bad after taste. I am not a picky eater by any means but this place just kept bringing out bad food. The waiter even charged me the higher price, which was the noodles, even though I ate about 4 bites and left my plate full and still smoking from the heat. I will never go back and don't recommend this place at all. Pros: The waitor was nice enough to switch ou t my meal Cons: Too bad the meals did not taste good more

Yum! Free Food! 4/23/2006

We've been to Kona Grill a few times and it has gotten better and better since it opened. The best NEW thing they have going on is their FREE sushi class on Saturday mornings from 9:45-11am. You have to call weeks in advance as they only take 8 people at a time, but it is well worth it. The sushi chef teaches you how to make three different types of sushi and because the class is so small you can personal attention the whole time. After the class you take your creations to the sushi bar and eat them. The food is great here and i think they are finally getting settled into this location. If you haven't gone, give them a chance. If you have gone, then go back and chec them out, the general manager has really taken things into his own hands. Pros: fish tank Cons: construction more

User review by punkprincess_2002 4/13/2006

My favorite part about this place is their happy hour. It is a great value! They have a good offering of specially priced food and drinks compared to what some other places offer during happy hour. Their bar and patio area is very beautiful and a very nice place to relax. I have enjoyed everything that I've gotten from Kona including their potsickers, roasted asparagus salad, grilled tuna, and all of their pizza offerings. The sushi lovers I know enjoy their large variety of freshly prepared sushi. One complaint is the Macadamia Nut Pie...it's very over-rated, but other than that it's pretty good! more

Service during happy hour is poor! 4/1/2006

Happy Hour is fun, the price a Sake Bomb (warm sake + japanese beer) is only five bucks! Great price! Happy hour food is half price also. Pizzas are five bucks and certain rolls are half price. There is a reverse happy hour from 9-11 which is exactly like regular happy hour. Downside..... Service during happy hour/reverse happy hours is terrible. I've been a number of times already hoping the next time is better. I've been there in large groups and with a party of two and still received bad service. My experience have been that my server comletely forgot about my table and then after waiting for about 30 mins i had to chase her down and she admitting to forgetting about us because we were sitting in a corner! Pros: Happy Hour Price, Sake Bombs, Decor Cons: Service, Management, Happy Hour seating more

Awesome Salmon 2/24/2006

The best, moist salmon I've ever had. Been there twice and ordered the Salmon entree first and the Salmon Salad second. It is the best. I will have a difficult time ever ordering anything else. Parking is a problem right now until September 2006 due to construction. I recommend valet for now. Pros: Delicious, Romantic, Bar and Patio Cons: parking, closes at 7 Xmas Eve, needs lg.round tables more

OMG DO NOT GO HERE... 2/12/2006

WE HAVE BEEN HERE SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME HOPING THAT IT WOULD BE BETTER THAN THE LAST. i just wanted to say if you do not want to waste money, please do not go here. there are other places that are better and worthwhile especially for sushi, but it has a dim and romantic atmosphere. Pros: ambience Cons: pricey more

NonSmokers Pay More! 11/1/2005

Great service, great atmoshere, main courses ok, BIG PROBLEM is happy hour drink prices and 1/2 price orderves are only available in smoking areas. If you want to sit in non smoking, you pay twice the price, in the same restaraunt at the same time as a smoker (or someone willing to put up with other smokers) has to pay. I don't want to pay more just because I'm a non-smoker. Manager confirmed that's just the policy of the company. I just won't go thre again. more
