Jose's Mexican Restaurant

Jose's has been closed for a while now....and man does my family and I miss it!! We dream with the food and nothing around town has been anywhere near as good or even decent compared to the food and service we got at Jose's. Well I ran into Jose's daughter Gloria at the store a few days ago and I asked why havn't they opened another location? She gave me very sad news that her mother Gloria was very ill and got diagnosed with Lou Gehrig s Disease and dementia just a few months after they closed. Thankfully, Jose, now retired is with her. She was such a hard working business women and very smart when it came to other business they have. We just want Jose and his family to know that they are in our prayers and wish them the best! Also, daughter Gloria mentioned she might open up another location soon. They are not sure though because of the condition of her mom. Other then that the family is doing well! Its just horrible news! Well good luck and god bless them. more

Just writing to let everyone know that Jose's Mexican Restaurant has officially closed. They have been struggling for the past three months with the building and landlord, because the ceilings caved in and the landlord has not fixed them yet. the plaza is beginning to look very nice on the outside but the inside is falling apart. I've been going to Jose's for the past 15 years, and I know the ceiling and construction must have completely ruined Jose's Business. Its a shame there are landlord's who done appreciate tenants, and don't try to work with them. I was in there last week and two tables walked out saying they couldn't eat in a restaurant that had no ceiling and that was filled with dust and insulation, some people don't understand that it was not the restaurants fault it was the buildings fault. Jose's tried to stay as long as possible but just couldn't take it any longer. I wish Jose and his family luck in 2009 and I hope they open somewhere new very soon, because my family and I need Jose's Mexican Food and Salsa to survive. Just writting to let everyone know about this Mexican restaurant me and my family have been going to for 10 years. They have a great atmosphere inside and the service is always very friendly. Jose cooks everything himself, the minute you order it. They have a variety of dishes at a great price the most expensive is $10.00. My family loves to go there; we always order a Mexican pizza for our appetizer. It?s not like any other Mexican pizza we?ve ever tried or seen it?s unique in taste and looks. It?s so delicious. We also love there enchiladas and taco salads. My husband is a very picky vegetarian, and he loves going to Jose?s because they have many option dishes for him, he loves the chili rellenos. I am Mexican and ever since I moved to Florida I missed Mexican food until I found Jose's. We love and enjoy this place very much. Pros: Yummy food at a very good price Cons: Hard to find more

Well after reading the latest reviews on city search I was like what no way!!!! This is a great little mom and pops place the entire family works there and are very friendly they make us feel right at home. I just moved here from San Antonio, TX, and let me tell you after 6 months of trying and looking for a good Mexican restaurant this one is The BEST one in Clearwater! My wife and I go there at least once a week. We love their food, my favorite so far is the chicken enchiladas, no other Mexican restaurant in Clearwater has the yummy white sauce that Jose's has. I love to eat them with rice and beans on the side the only down fall is that its very filling. My wife loves going on Tuesday because they have this taco Tuesday special for I believe 89cent tacos which is a killer deal, she'll eat like 5 tacos. We are expecting a baby girl so my wife eats for two were due in December. The tacos are also very very good, the beef is not greasy at all and the tacos are hot and crunchy u can tell Jose just took them out of the fryer. The Chips and salsa are very good also and there free unlike other restaurant in town. There salsa is addicting it?s ridiculous you wont wanna stop eating it. You can tell everything they make is fresh and straight from the oven, the plates are HOT so be careful. We love everything about this little place, the service is very nice and fast, right on the dot when we need something. We feel very comfortable going to eat there, we can tell everything is fresh, it may take a little longer than other restaurant but at least we know it was just made and not pre made. The owner Jose is always there he?s very nice and funny, and of course a great cook! Believe me people u should check out this restaurant I have lived in Texas for 10 years and was born and raised in the capital of Mexico city. And my wife moved to Texas 7 years ago from Mexico also, so she knows good Mexican food as well. Try it out! I just don't get it how could this place possibly get a GOOD review let alone a great review??? The service was ok... I guess. However the food was terrible. First off the fountain soda machine was broken and my girlfriend and I were served soda from a 2-liter bottle. That I can look past. Then when they brought out the food I was extremely dissappointed. I ordered 2 cheese enchiladas and a beef taco. This plate was a total joke the taco was exactly like taco bell, with the pre-shaped "crunchy" taco and all but was not taco bell price... actually. Inside the taco was grease saturated ground beef just like i would expect from taco bell drive-thru at 1AM. The cheese enchiladas were a complete insult! They had two of the main components that make up cheese enchiladas... cheese and flour tortillas but they were absolutely awful. They tasted just like some cheap store brand shredded cheddar someone microwaved. That was it. Cheese + tortilla + 0 quality. My girlfriends plate was two generously large masses of again, overly grease laden bottom of the barrel taco bell-esque ground beef stuffed into cheap store brand flour tortillas and covered in cheap melted cheese. Period, no frills added. I am a white American and have no place talking about authenticity when it comes to Mexican food however my girlfriend is from Yucatan, Mexico and has only been here for 3 years. She was offended by them calling that "Mexican" food. I am going to stop here and not keep going on and on about how bad the food was but I was starving when I went in there... usually bad food is ok when you are starving... this stuff wasn't even palatable. When I left the restaurant I was only disappointed. What a waste of time and money. The only thing I can think is maybe the real cooks were all absent the day I went for lunch and the hostess had to step in the kitchen and just wing it. more

I am not from Clearwater and am not very familiar with the area. After glancing at all of the good reviews I decided to try this place out. I work at a restaurant and try to be patient but this was one of the worst places I have ever been. Everyone keeps raving about the food and maybe it is just because I went for lunch but it was awful. The service was terrible. She first forgot the coffee and then went to make more. When it was done brewing (in plain sight) it sat there for another 5/7 min. By the time the coffee was brought the food came to the table. This would not have been so bad but the food took an unusually long time to come to the table with no explanation about why. I asked for cheese dip when I ordered the drinks and this was brought relatively quickly (in comparison) but it looked disgusting. It was watery and looked like stuff was floating in it. We were also over charged for the cheese but just wanted to leave by the time we got the check. The server looked at the table (constantly checking at a distance) but this was weird because we didn't have chips to go with the cheese or even coffee for that matter. She said she'd bring them twice but forgot. At first I thought that they were cooking or something but I saw her walk two orders to the other table. We flagged her down and asked. By this time the cheese-like liquid was cold. The chips were burnt which weirdly enough didn't taste terrible. The salsa was sugary. I got chicken enchiladas (because they were out of been in the restaurant) and my boyfriend got shrimp something or another. He said the dish was alright and that the best part was the texture of them. Mine had chicken with half white veins running through it and again with the watery sauce. The tortilla was yellow. It tasted awful. The consistency was soggy, sticky and something like an egg like texture. The plus was that the rice was pretty good though watery. Hello well im here today to let everyone know about this great little mexican restaurant my family and i found just about a year ago....Joses has great The BEST salsa and chips ever....there addicted every time we go which is every tuesday if not friday we must and i mean MUST buy a pint or quart of Joses salsa its soo delicious. Also my favorite at the time would have to be his chicken chimichangas they are sooo tasty. The service at joses is great and very nice. the plates are filled with food, unlike other mexican restaurants that ive been to around town that when my family and I leave were still Hungry. Well i really recommend this place hope u check it out enjoy!!!! oHHH tuesddays a great day to go for tacos they're soo good and only 89 cents killer deal!!! more

I opened up this account just to let people know how good this little family owned mexican restaurant is.....I was there last week for the first time with my husband and kids. I must say this place is my families favorite now, I had the trio enchilada dinner it was outstanding. My husband got the deluxe dinner the waitress said it was a good plate because it had a little of everything and the price was great, she was right I ended up trying the beef taco and chili relleno, it was so good not bland at all like all the other mexican restaurants around town. Everything we ordered had a great taste to it, I dont like spicy food at all and I was told nothing is spicy unless you ask for it. They have good kids combos also. The service was very friendly and helpful,OOOOhhhh and the margaritas are also very tasty they have full bar which means they actually use real tequila unlike most mexican restaurants ive been to around clearwater. This mexican restaurant has to be the best in town the only bad thing is that its hard to find, if your going west on Drew st it'll be on your left its rite between Belcher rd and Ne coachman if you pass it Goooo back it totally worth it. The owner Jose is very friendly and after cooking your dinner he comes to check on you and greet you. Great mexican food prepared fresh not pre-made friendly servers and owner may serve you (he does it all) been there several times, never a bad meal.Great for groups and also secluded spots for romantic diners.You may miss it and drive buy but turn around its worth it!!! I dont drink ,but my wife loves the margaritas deco is nice scenes painted on the walls make you think your in mexico. Jose's mexican Restaurant is really the best mexican food ive found here in clearwater/tampa area...they have the best salsa and chips ever, i tried there shripm and bef fajitas last nite they were sooo delicious!!! Oh ya and they have awsome margaritas on the rocks!!! The service there is soo friendly and nice and very attentive, as if they could read ur mind almost lol. Its a very nice small family restaurant ownened and operated by the Lopez family, they ahve been there for over 16 yrs. U gotta go check it out its so great...oh ya i almost forgot they have a fantastic shrimp cocktail!!! Well i hope u enjoy!! I have to agree with the other reviewers that this place has the best chips and salsa around! The food is fresh and absolutely delicious - today I got the burrito/taco combo plate with rice for like $6 and there was so much food, I had to take some home, which is kind of rare for me ((blush)).. Jose himself waited on us and was very friendly and eager to please. Definately try this place out.. It is kind of hard to find, as they don't have a sign/marquee on Drew street, but it is located on the south side of Drew, just east of Hercules.. if you are driving east on Drew, you can spot it better because the restaurant faces west in a plaza and the name is on the building.. hope this helps.. more

Well let me just start by sayin its a great place to take your family for healthy freah mexican FOOD. They have the absolute Best salsa we've ever tried once you start eating you just cant stop...no lie. And there chips are one of a kind there so fresh and crisp. I have ate at all the other mexican restaurants around and this is my FAVORITE. They have wonderful Shrimp cocktails and fajitas!!mmmmm.... Well like i already said it is the best salsa ever....when u start eating it which they give u alot of as many times as u want..You come to a point where u cant stop....its great and then there amazing chips which u can tell dont come out of a bag like other mexican restaurants around here...there soo fresh, warm, and crisp/crunchy!!! well what i absolutly love there is there fajitas u can tell its freshly cut just for you....well i go there so much with my kids and family that they already know what we order...its funny. well the service is great there funny and fast and overall really NICE!! U got to go try it.... Pros: great salsa, best service more
