Loved the Festival. 10/19/2006

Johnny Appleseed Festival was so nice to go to. Hubby went with me. He went home early but I stayed. He called me to let me know that he got an apple pie, cider, and apple butter already. I had some corn bread at the festival that was made in these dutch ovens. (I think that is what they are called) Anyway it had coals on top of the cast iron lids and heat on the bottom and how they had it come out perfectly brown is beyond me and it was cooked all the way through. I took plenty of pictures there. I got to see bagpipers and soldiers dressed in historical attire. I had a caramel apple, apple /strawberry shortcake, and a cup of apple cider. I have to agree with the others on great entertainment and crafts. i saw a person making pottery and wooden bowls, etc. I enjoyed it very much more

Go Native! 4/16/2006

The Johnny Appleseed Park and Festival is a wonderful family event offered each year. The food is interesting. My favorite is the fresh kettle corn cooked in a monster black kettle filled with bowling water. The crew shucks corn full time and places it in the water while a group of men work in the back cutting the corn off the actual corn stalks. Wait in line and get a little paper tray and the chance to direct your corn preparation. The volunteers dip your corn in butter and you can add your own salt. Very tasty! My favorite part of the festival is the fife and drum corps that perform. It's a trip back into history under the huge trees in a local park. The only negative part is the selling of animal skins in the camping recreation of the park. Who needs to buy a squirrel pelt?! Really! more

A Great Festival 8/19/2005

It is almost time for one of my favortie events in the Johnny Appleseed park. The Johnny Appleseed Festival, a wonderful fall festival with great food(most of it devoted to apples) The apple dumplings are to die for and are worth the wait. Great entertainment, wonderful crafts, and there are rendevous encampments too. It is a wonderful way to spend a fall afternoon. Things get a bit crowed and you need to watch out for bees more

Festival of History 7/24/2005

During September there is the ever so famous johnny appleseed festival at the johnny appleseed park. During this festival you can enjoy walking around to get concessions of caramel apples, root beer in an old fashioned bottle, and apple cider. There are also vendors who come and camp out in teepees to give the historical feel of the park. There are many creative and vintage things to see and buy during the festival. If you go to the park during the rest of the year you can go visit johnny appleseeds grave. more
