Meh 1/29/2010

My wife and I were in the SW metro, and opted to eat dinner someplace new. We opted for this establishment. It resides in the former building where Sherlock's Home used to be (which was AWESOME) My first impression when I walked in was the wine. I saw bottles of Silver Oak, Cakebread, Tomassi Amarone...wines I really like and thought we stumbled upon a promising establishment. The decor was OK, but nothing to write home about. We ordered a couple cocktails and they were spot on delicious. The only issue was that the server as it ended up stopped at our table infrequently which, irked me some (actually alot). I should state we ambled in around 9:00 PM and in the section where we were seated there were only four dinner parties including ourselves, the other side was about as sparse. My wife and I order our food. My wife orders a steak salad, and I order the bone in rib eye, and wait for its arrival. I always order my steaks rare. After quite a while, our food comes and alas my steak is cooked medium....how hard is it to sear a piece of meat on two sides for a minute or two at the most and, throw it on a plate and serve it? Well considering the price that I am paying for this meat, I want it done the way I expect. So I wait, and I wait while my wife enjoys her salad. My wife is about half way through her dinner when our server shows up and asks ""how is everything""? I said my steak is overcooked. So she sends it back to cook another one, and she come back with some sort of Burgoo for me to eat while my steak is being redone. Not impressed it was like they took a couple cans of Campbell's Chunky soup and doctored it up. So by the time my meat arrives, my starch is cold as is the vegetable. Not much of an apology was offered, and I really didn't enjoy the dinner at all. If it was not for the decent wine, and their ability to make a great cocktail, this place gets only one star. If i am going to spend $170.00 on dinner, I will spend it at Manny's or Pittsburgh Blue. Pros: Good Bartender, Better than average wine list Cons: Service more

You haven't had Jimmy's till you've had their brunch. 10/30/2009

BEST STEAK IN TOWN 10/2/2009

My wife and I dine at Jimmy's on a regular basis. They are always busy and now I know why. I recently had the best filet mignon ever. Served on a hot plate with augratin potatoes, YUM! Our server was excellent and very educated about subtle service. The wine she suggested was the perfect match to our steaks. We will continue to eat and drink at Jimmy's. We love it! Pros: Service, Menu Selection, Ambiance more

Crab Cakes and Martinis 2/21/2009

Have to agree with the reviewer about it going downhill a bit. If it is tied to reducing cost - Jimmy's - listen up - your clientele notices this. There are other ways to reduce costs beyond skimping on quality and what brought your clients to you to begin with.\r \r Your crab cakes are still wonderful - although I noticed a bit more breading than usual an no pepper in the pepper tartar sauce. \r \r Martinis are good.\r \r Please don't skimp and people will keep coming even during hard times more

Used to be top-notch. Not so much any more 2/4/2009

When Jimmy's first opened it was a first class dinner experience.\r Perhaps the failing economy has caused this, but the portion size has been reduced, the food quality is no longer at the top of the scale, the little extras are not so evident, and the service, although good, in no longer exemplary.\r The last couple times I've been, the food was not especially hot, and the little food frills on the plates weren't there.\r My biggest disappointment was the Bouya (sp?) soup. I used to love it! What a wonderful comfort food. The last two times I had it (yes, I do allow for the occasional bad day) it was little more than leftovers in gravy. \r The spicing of the food seems to be following many other eaterys and bars. Lots of salt, less herbs, flavorings and spices than it used to have. \r \r Sill nice, but only a cut above the ""bar food"" variety. Pros: Close to work Cons: High prices for average food and service more

Ambiance, Food, Service make Jimmy's memorable 3/29/2008

When entering, the hostesses were very helpful in locating the rest of my party. The atmosphere was electric. From the murals on the walls to the fireplace in back. Very knowledgable service staff. Knew the wine and food menus backwards and forwards. Appreciated hearing what thier favorites were. One of the House specialties is the Jumbo Crab Cake. Excellent choice, almost couldn't believe I was in Minnesota. We ate at a comfortable pace and each course was timed nicely. We were never rushed for the next course. The spice on my salmon was very unique and quite tasty. My husband said his steak selection was cooked perfectly as well. Our server brought the dessert menus but we were too full. Enjoyed the rest of the wine and we were on our way. Extremely impressed with the service and the quality ingredients of the menu. Will surely come back to this hot spot on our next visit to Minnesota. Pros: Service and Food Cons: Parking more

I will tell anyone who will listen to me about Jimmy's! 3/29/2008

I read an article about Jimmy's in Sun Country Airlines in-flight magazine. With Sun Country's recommendation we decided to give Jimmy's a try. We found the quality of the food and the service to be excellent. Our server, Kara, (who was mentioned in the article) was incredible! I would highly recommend that you ask for her when visiting Jimmy's. We have visited Jimmy's 3 times since our original visit and we love the place! more

Overpriced Cheap Food in a Nice Space 3/23/2008

This was the second time I ate at Jimmy's. I found the food to be nothing worth bragging about again. \r The food is bland. The Easter brunch cost as much as Sofitel's in Edina and tastes like a Denny's in Brooklyn Center. The time I went there for dinner, I left disapointed as well. \r \r To put my taste into perspective, I recomend going to Ciao Bella, Lucia's, Tryg?s, Cafe Latte, Spoonriver, Corner Table for lunch or dinner and Patrick's BakeryCafe for dessert.\r \r My wife and I have eaten at some of the best resturants in the city and suburbs and this isn't one of them.\r The service was good though(this got the star), but I don't go to resturants for the service. Pros: Service, Parking, Ambience Cons: Food more

Pleasantly Surprised 6/28/2007

This place has all the same fittings to be a Redstone or Canyone Grille type of place - but they have more on their menu and that was a pleasant surprise! Ambience is 'ok'. Location is excellent. But the food is very good! Many things to choose from and I like that especially if you are there for business and don't know what food to expect, etc. I appreciated the variety in the menu. Service was good and attentive. more
