One of the worst places to take your car . Took my car for a safety and inspection and they came back trying to charge me 150 for part and another 120 for labor I got the part for 50 bucks and did it my self this guy is a crook dont go here he is out to just make money off of people off what ever they can more

DON'T TRUST THIS HORRIBLE BUSINESS! THEY ARE CROOKS! 6/18/2014

I took my car here because I found two codes for a check engine light. Will is the owner. I asked him if he could fix them. He then came back an hour later with the codes that I already knew was wrong . He said it was two things for each code. I told him I didn't have the money for all of the repairs. I told him I could do the first repair and I could bring the car in the next day. He didn't like that and said that I would owe him $45 for diagnostics. He had only used the same diagnostic tool as Auto Zone. It was even the same codes. He NEVER mentioned that he would charge me for what I already knew. I had to call the police to get my car back. This place is a SCAM for sure. Took my car to another shop and they fixed my car and guess what it was only ONE issue NOT FOUR. DON'T TRUST THIS HORRIBLE BUSINESS! THEY ARE CROOKS! more

well. At a time in my life when everything was going wrong, my alternator in my trusty honda crv broke down...being a newly single mom, my financial situation isn't all that great. I went a week without my car because every place I called quoted me between $450-550 for parts and labor. I finally remembered taking my other honda to Willy at Japanese Auto and how he was so good to me there..I went back there and gave him a try. Willy is a genuinely nice guy who understands how important family is and how rough life can get. He quoted me a much lower price for parts and labor. He was able to get my car right in and out. He spent a longer than normal time on my car, but he didn't charge me additional labor fees which most car places would have done. He also fixed and cleaned up a few other things that he noticed without any additional charges. Fast forward a couple weeks...my check engine light went on. My car was shaking a little. I took my car in there one morning without even calling hi more

When it rains, it poures...I've come to know this term very well. At a time in my life when everything was going wrong, my alternator in my trusty honda crv broke down...being a newly single mom, my financial situation isn't all that great. I went a week without my car because every place I called quoted me between $450-550 for parts and labor. I finally remembered taking my other honda to Otto at Japanese Auto and how he was so good to me there..I went back there and gave him a try. Otto is a genuinely nice guy who understands how important family is and how rough life can get. I took my car in there one morning without even calling him. He checked my engine code right away, diagnosed it and spent about 45 minutes cleaning up the part instead of just replacing it to save me money. He didn't charge me a thing. My car has been fine ever since. Be weary of bad reviews. EVERY business has them. I manage a dental office and sometimes its impossible to keep EVERY customer happy. Unfortunately, most people only use online review tools to complain...causing the business to look horrible. The most important thing is to judge a business based on the people who run it. You can just tell that otto is a very nice and generous man who isn't ""all about the money."" I work for the same kind of business owner, so I know that there are some good people out there still. :) more

HONEST AND FASTEST MECHANIC 8/20/2012

I could only write good reviews about this place, it was family members and a few friends who actually recommended me this place. After my RAV4 engine died about a week ago I had to get it fixed, I don't have the money to buy a new car. When I got to Japanese Auto Repair the manager gave the price upfront and didn't get any surprises, not only that but my car was running in just 3 days, I was planning on renting a car for a week but I actually had to take the bus for just 2 days. more

BEST IN TOWN 7/7/2012

There are a few places that I would personally recommend to friends, but when it comes to family I know where they have to take their businesses, my cars and my sons cars are taken care of by Willy and his mechanics, the prices are very good, competitive for this economy, never had a problem with none of the multiple times I had to visit his shop not me or my sons. The convenience of having "ON THE SPOT RENEWAL" makes it even better. Nothing but good reviews from me. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/7/2012

I'm totally satisfied with this place, I own 3 cars and my two sons also take their cars for any repairs to this place, never had an issue whatsoever, the prices are very competitive. Not only that but to be able to renew and get your stickers one the spot makes it very convenient for anyone with a tight schedule like myself. I was surprised to see some of the reviews for this place. But again....I never had any issues and I would recommend this place to anyone. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/27/2012

This guy is a real crook, totally dishonest and should be behind bars. This business should be closed to protect the public! It is absolutely the worst auto repair shop I have ever had the misfortune to visit. In short, I took my fully restored (almost $10,000 for a new transmission, clutch and body work completed in 2011) Jaguar 2004 X-Type to him to put some fraeon into the air conditioner and get it registered. Two hours later, I get a call that the car passed inspection, but wouldn't start! Despite unending promises to fix it, he would never admit responsibility for screwing it up or fixing it and my car sat there for over a month, until I had it towed to the outfit which had put in the new transmission last year. They found that this bonehead or his people had cut a hole into the wall of the car's computer system attempting to hot wire it to start and had blown the computer system and effectively ruined the car. The public should be protected from predators like this one. I intend to file complaints with the Better Business Bureau, Utah State AG and Utah County Attorney's Offices and with anyone else who will listen. Someone needs to try to protect our citizens against such crooks. more

Best Mechanic Shop 6/19/2012

I rarely go to online reviews, this time I decided to post something good for this business, because I think they deserved this, I have visited this place for all my mechanic needs. I own a 1998 Subaru as you can see not a new car, and it needs some work from time to time, and for the last 3 years I took my car and Willy is always professional and the price is set upfront. No surprises!!...good place and cheap. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/18/2012

After searching for a while, came across this garage, and I have nothing bad to say about this business, very professional and helpful. I was given a quote and later I got a call from the manager who explained to me that my car needed a few more parts to prevent problems in the future. You don't see this type of service nowadays.....Glad I had this taken care of at this place. more

Awesome Place 5/31/2012

After spending time with my family in St. George I was heading back home (Idaho) when my car broke down, I was thankfully very close to this mechanic's shop, Willy the manager was very helpfull he even took the time to explained to my brother over the phone what the problem was and fixed my car. In no time I was back in the road. I would recommend this place for any problems that you may have in the future, the prices are also very competitive.\r Becky B. more

I was very pleased this past Monday 5/31/2012

I was very pleased this past Monday when my car broke down and was repaired in no time.........i was going back home when this happened and I was very close to this shop, I would recommend this shop to anyone in the area. After reading those bad reviews I had to put something good for them, because I got home sound and safe thanks to them. more

Total rip off 2/25/2012

I took my car to them to be diagnosed. I told them to not replace anything. Just figure out what was wrong with it. The next day they called and told me that they replaced a few parts and the total bill was $500+ I could have done the same thing they did for around $50. Not only did they rip me off, my car ran worse than it did when I took it to them and when I finally figured out the problem myself (I'm not a mechanic just familiar with cars) it had nothing to do with the parts and things that they worked on. Very disappointed. If I could go back in time there is no way I would have paid them. They are over priced and don't know what they are doing. more

GLOWING RECOMMENDATION 2/9/2012

I am writing to provide a glowing report and recommendation for Japanese Auto Repair.I can not say enough about the service that I received at this estblishment.I was treated with utmost respect and dignity. The understanding and commitment to my well-being and the exact repair of my car was exceptional.Keep up the good work. more

Shady Operation 1/15/2012

First off, I believe that allowing both repairs and inspection/emission at the same establishment to be a conflict of interest, especially during a poor economy, and Japanese Auto Repair certainly demonstrates that. \r \r Second, I've never seen a another auto repair shop with so many LDS magazines and pictures in the waiting area as Japanese Auto Repair.\r \r Last year Japanese Auto Repair (all employees Hispanic) passed my car for inspection/emissions with no repairs needed. A week later my alternator failed. Had it replaced at another business. This year I had my car inspected at Japanese Auto Repair again and they passed it with no needed repairs. Again, exactly a week later my 11-month-old alternator failed. The other repair shop that installed it replaced it under warranty and said they had never seen an alternator fail like that - total bearing failure. The pulley was tilted at an angle, throwing the belt off.\r \r I had my second car inspected at Japanese Auto Repair lat year and the more

As shady as they come 11/21/2011

There was a language barrier between myself and the employees, I am not sure they understood the problem with my car. They were very abrupt, they were not helpful. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. I could tell they were a shady auto place. To be honest, I am not sure how they are still in business. They must be in desperate need because I took my car somewhere else who quoted me 50% less. more

'0' Dishonest 7/18/2011

Dishonest and very manipulative. I am surprised they are still in business. I imagine the only good reviews were written by employees. Read previous reviews. DO NOT take your car here. more

Shouldn't touch cars 6/30/2011

If there were a rating for negative stars, thats what i'd give 'em. Only put one star cause its required. more

A job well done 3/26/2011

I'm surprised to see the bad reviews. I have used Japanese Auto repair twice and have found them honest, reliable and to do good work. I guess it depends on your expectations. I have a 2000 Honda Prelude which I normally have had serviced at a Honda dealer. I bought the car new, and believe in the idea that it is worth paying for good maintenance. I'm not looking for the cheapest job, but good quality work that will keep this car running well for several more years. The model isn't made anymore.\r \r There were a number of issues that had to be resolved including a cracked catalytic converter. Japanese auto correctly diagnosed the issues (which I was pretty certain about for a number of reasons), made the repairs, completed a full service, provided parts to my specification at reasonable prices. I felt that the total price was fair, especially in comparison with what I would pay at the dealership in San Francisco. I'm fussy about this vehicle, and I'm pleased with the service prov more
