Avoid this place 8/17/2011

I thought my buddy and I could enjoy a couple of drinks and maybe some shuffle board. Instead we got terrible service and were creeped out by the near homeless and/or drug rehabbed people in this dive. For only having 10 customers in the bar you would think we could get a drink a little quicker but the bartender didn't come over until he was done with a long conversation. Chugged our drinks and bailed as quick as we could. A bar within walking distance that I will never revisit. Hard to believe Regans is a step up from this place. more

I Like; But, Karaoke System Needs Professional KJ 9/9/2010

Due to quiet business, I like going to Jan's Lounge on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to sing karaoke. However, the nice lady who mostly runs the karaoke system should learn the sound system better. I never get the feeling that she understands how to properly balance the music with the vocals very well. However, I feel totally different when the make KJ is there and running the system. He truly understands that each singer is different and reacts accordingly. I feel very comfortable and confident when he is at the realm. Keep in mind, both KJ's sing very wel; as, do several singers who come to sing at Jan's. In fact, Jan's should host a Karaoke competitionon with a few of the other bars around town. As for the bartenders;l well, the lady bartender seems to be o.k. when I am there. However, I don't feel in the ""click"" with the male bartender at all. All in all, I recommend Jan's Lounge as a very nice place to go if you are over the age of 30 (And I really appreciate that)! more

Poor bar tending service for New Customers 7/3/2009

I visited Jan's Lounge once in a while because it has live music. However, every time I go, I get terrible service from the bar tenders. For having two bar tenders on shift Friday and Saturday night, they sure are not very good. The place should be doing twice as much business with live music. \r \r I waited 15 minutes on a Friday night with two bar tenders on duty and the place was about 1/3 full. The bar tender saw my disfavor with the significant wait, especially after watching one of them talk to a female customer for five minutes and not even notice I walked up to the bar. Additoinally, he charged me $9.00 for a Pedron Silver on the rocks with a water back. I also left a one dollar tip despite the long wait.\r \r Another customer came up to me and commented on the poor service as well. However, when the bar tender asked me if I had a problem, and I replied frankly and calmly that I thought they were charging premium prices for less than premium service, the bar tender got upset and told me to leave and not come back. Perhaps he was the owner and perhaps not. If not, I thought the owner should know how good paying, upscale, customers get treated. I tip well for good service but if it's poor, I'll let the bar tender know it with a low tip. For me $1.00 per drink is a low tip.\r \r Whoever the owner is, I would recommend that he send in ""secret shoppers,"" and find out what's going on. Good bar tenders should spoil new customers hoping they return instead of shunning them when the customer feels slighted for poor service. It seemed that the bar tenders were more interested in the girls than the men.\r \r Furthermore, I was a bar tender and bar manager in college and found that the place was under untilized for a Friday/Saturday night establishiment with live music. Now I understand why with the bar tender's attitudes. I'm old school. Good paying customers who buy premium alcohol should be treated well. Not like strangers.\r \r The bar tenders seemed to expect the customers to kiss thier (you know what) instead of kissing the customer's you know what. They act like they are the kings of the joint and that customers should be privilegded for them to wait on them.\r \r The bar will never reach it's full potential with bar tenders who project a superior attitude over customer service. I know this isn't sour grapes because I had another customer mention the poor service and they tipped $1.00 per drink like I did. In this economy, that's pretty good. If they had served better they may have gotton an extra five at the end of the night.\r \r As an owner, I would not discount this complaint and covertly check out my bar tenders. They are costing the owner money with a poor customer service attitude.\r \r Like I said, a bar with live music should be full on a Friday and Saturday night, and not less than 1/3rd.\r \r Don't take my word for it. Have them checked out yourself. However, if the bar tender is the bar owner, then you are screwed either way. Because you can bet that I will bad mouth the service at that bar for a long time and cost you 10-100 times more in business than if you treated me right. \r \r That's called consumer retaliation. Cons: Bar tenders seem arogant and don't pay attention to new cust more

Rude bartender 11/22/2008

I have been bringing friends and co-workers to Jans for years. This night I ordered several drinks for my group from the younger bartender and was treated great. \r After finishing the drinks I went to the older bartender to order more. I ordered a Vodka and Coke and watched as he poured less than half a shot of vodka and filled the glass with coke. I guess he thought I was not looking or am stupid. I then asked if he put any vodka in the drink at all. He then got defensive and to add insult to injury said ""You are not at home, take it or leave it."" I should have told him to keep his drinks but did not want to ruin the night for the others in my party. When I brought the drink back to the table and tasted it was all soda. I then returned the drink to the bartender and he neither apologized nor offered to make another. If this is the way you treat good customers then I will not spend my hard earned money only to be cheated by a rude a bartender. If he is treating guests like this his employer should probably keep an eye on him for other things as well. Cons: Shorting on drinks more
