HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE 8/27/2010

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS HOSPITAL. This place not only rips you off, but it also tortures your pet with all kinds of unnecessary testing. I took my chihuahua to White Ivie because he'd been having diarrhea and gas for the past 3 days and seemed to be very uncomfortable. He was seen by Dr. Morfin, whom misdiagnosed him with pancreatitis. I was told that he needed to be hospitalized. He ordered an IV to give him fluids; even though, I'd let Dr.Morfin know that my dog wasn't dehydrated, that he was still drinking water. He also ordered an assortment of tests -- complete blood work, a pancreatitis test, x-rays, a physical exam. And, even before Dr. Morfin had the test results, they had injected my dog with an antibiotic, a pain killer, and an anti-acid -- all pretty strong medications from what I read on the internet.\r \r When I called Dr. Morfin to find out the results of the tests, I didn't speak with him until the fifth time I called. He said that all my dog had was an irritated stomach and some gas. But, that he still wanted to keep him overnight to have him re-evaluated the next day. I declined and went to go pick him up. I questioned Dr. Morfin on why they'd performed so many tests and given him so much medication. He became angry and told me that since I did not trust him that I should find another veterinarian. I was charged $886.\r \r But, that's not the worst part. MY DOG HAS NOT BEEN THE SAME SINCE. The first 48 hours were the worst. He was constantly whimpering, he couldn't walk, he wouldn't eat, he wouldn't drink, he wouldn't pee, he wouldn't poo, he wouldn't move at all. Whenever I pick him up, he’d cry out in pain. He wouldn't even acknowledge me whenever I called him -- he seemed to be in a catatonic state. His eyes were extremely dilated and; at times, seemed to be having hallucinations. Alarmed at the state of my dog, I called White Ivie the very next day and made an appointment with Dr. Salinger (one of the owners). I told the receptionist to tell Dr. Salinger that I was not going to pay for the visit because whatever they had done or given him the day before had made him extremely ill. However, thirty minutes before my appointment, they called me to let me know that they had cancelled my appointment. Their explanation for the cancellation was that ""I did not trust them and should seek veterinary help somewhere else"". \r \r Today is the third day and he's still not well. He still has diarrhea, his urine is almost orange, he can barely move, he's hardly eating or drinking, and he stills cries out in pain whenever I pick him up. Due to the outrageously high fees that I was charged at White Ivie and because I'm on disability, I can't afford to take my doctor to another vet.\r more

Good Experience 8/29/2008

We were worried about bringing Bear, our dog, to the vet, especially a new vet. Bear can be unpredictable and jump at someone without warning. We feared the worst and thought for sure Bear would have to be sedated before the vet could examine him. But, Dr. Salinger was so wonderful with Bear that she was able to poke Bear with a needle to get a fluid sample from a cyst underneath his tail. Bear was completely cooperative. We found the instructions and communications invaluable and so helpful. I highly recommend Dr.Salinger, and find her care and interest warm and calming.\r Joan Pros: smoked salmon treats. Bear loved it. more

The Optimal in Compassionate, Innovative, and Thorough Healthcare for Your Pets ! 9/20/2007

We recently adopted two miniature schnauzers. The Pet Store referred us to the veterinarian who examines their new puppies. We took Patrick and Sean to this veterinarian for their routine new-puppy visits and were satisfied with the care (although I admit we really didn't have any previous experience to use for comparison). Yesterday, Patrick (now 8 mos.) had been licking and ""favoring"" his right paw. Our veterinarian was unavailable, so we called White Ivie Pet Hospital (because is very near to our home). We explained our emergency and they gave us an appointment within an hour. \r \r From arrival to departure, both my partner and I were overwhelmingly impressed with EVERY aspect of this experience. The facility is immaculate and ""up to date"", the office staff was friendly and helpful to both us and ?our boys? - which was only the beginning of this marvelous experience.\r \r We were seen by Dr. Elaine Salinger VMD - one of the most intelligent, well-spoken, compassionate and thorough healthcare providers I have ever met. Not only did she address the reason we were there, but she also spent a great deal of time educating us about our pups and the overall approach to properly loving and caring for them. I was extremely impressed by her in-depth knowledge and her emphasis on the importance of ""disease prevention"" (I am a practicing Physician Assistant, and as such I know the importance of Patient Education and Preventative Medicine). I recall thinking: ""what a wonderful blend of knowledge, compassion, sincerity, education, and candor"". And, we have it on good authority that the other attending Veterinarians who work with Dr. Salinger share her philosophy, competence, compassion, and focus on preventative medicine. \r \r We?re so glad that we found the White Ivie Pet Hospital. It has given us an immeasurable sense of confidence and security, and we HIGHLY recommend this wonderful practice to everyone who wants optimal healthcare for their pets. \r RJ Cunningham MS PA-C Pros: Compassionate, Thorough, focal emphasis on disease prevention and owner education. more
