OK Food 1/31/2011

Drinks are a little prices but the food was good and we got some hard to find Irish Whisky. Not too bad. more

Don't go there!!! Worst service EVER!!!! 9/26/2009

My companion and I went there for lunch early Sunday afternoon, when they were not very busy. We were seated immediately, but no one came over, even to take drink orders. We sat there for OVER 15 minutes. We finally got up to leave. When I complained, they were rude and uncaring. Stay far, far away!!! There are so many better and more responsive restaurants nearby. Pros: None Cons: Worst service ever! more

Friendly, Irish Pub? It's NOT! 3/8/2009

Here is a warning to those of you that are looking to go have a few drinks with friends at a friendly, fun bar. This is not the place to go. The manager and other staff are very unfriendly and really rude to put it nicely. I think the manager has forgotten what a friendly Irish pub is all about . Too bad. Cons: Management more

HORRIBLE Customer Service 8/11/2007

The bar is great however the bartenders are awful. They insult customers and they over charge. I stood waiting to get my change and the guy said oh you want your change? Yeah, it was $6.00 if you were not such a chode I would give you a big tip. more

Worest game night ever 12/12/2006

So if you?re looking for something fun to do on a workday, don?t go to Rula Bula. The wait staff gave us a hard time (eyes rolling) when we wanted a table, when we sat at the bar, when we got a table, when we wanted food, and when we wanted to play the trivia game. We were over charged for a miss order (they must have been to busy rolling their eyes) and for ice cream that came with our dessert (one scoop for $1.25 and it wasn?t all that good). The wait staff then stood over us while we checked our bill, which also had items that we had not ordered. The manager also gave us an attitude, implying somehow that it was our fault for the bad service. I love Irish pubs, but I would not recommend Rula Bula to anyone, it was more trouble than its worth. Cons: Price and service more

Great night out! 11/17/2006

I can't say enough - great beer, food, people, atmosphere - everything! Try the Shepherd's Pie with cheese - so yummy! A very fun night out with a good mixed crowd that is not as heavily college-kid-skewed as other places on Mill. Pros: Food, Beer, People, Atmosphere Cons: None! more

Expands on the Irish pub rule of thumbs: Guinness, live Celtic music, appetizers, Irish-American crowd. 7/6/2006

As an Irish-American, I appreciate the traditional approach to an authentic menu and usual Irish pub drink list. Don't, I repeat, don't be afraid of the food (Irish cuisine is resoundingly barely eatible). The food is well past outstanding and well worth the price. Live music sounds like a mixture of the Gaelic folk music your mother played around the house and the accoustic soft college rock played around the area. Every major city in the country is equipped with a genuine Irish pub built in Ireland and reconstructed in the states, but trust me when I say this one is exceptional. Between the Guinness and the five-star food, it's a no brainer. Part owners actually own Fibber Magees in Chandler. Pros: General vibe, food, Guinness on tap Cons: So noisy, smoking outside only (although the bar outdoors made-up some). more

A True Pub 2/8/2006

Next time you visit the best place on Mill, take a look at the back bar. You will see a group of regulars that laugh and sing while they sip Red Breast untiil 8 or 8:30P. Rula is a great place to start your evening. The Brie and Salmon Apps are only $4.50 at Happy Hour! Pros: Location, Not a Meat Market, Staff Cons: Small Dance Floor more

Guiness or not to Guiness 11/23/2005

How can you not like the place. Laid back, foods is awesome, staff is on top of it. I've enjoyed many an evening in the courtyard eating anything from Irish delights to the "Joe Burger". The brew is cold, the tales are tall and the tummy full. Can't say enough great things about it. Romantic? Only if you can find a quiet corner. The crowd is 25 - 40 and not college rowdy. Just a plain old good time. Pros: Great food, Cold Brew Cons: parking more

Damn Good Food 8/16/2003

Rula Bula's Chef Marc Lucero is one of the best chefs in Tempe. His menu is amazing-- from traditional Irish food to some of the best steak and seafood you can get in town, this place works well as a restaurant until about 8:30pm when it becomes more like a bar atmosphere. Go for the food! The Guinness is the best in the state. Our waiter boasted that Rula Bula has a genuine draft system from Ireland and that they sell the most Guinness in AZ-- always fresh! Pros: amazing food, nice setting before 9, pm Cons: Irish music more

were you drunk? 9/19/2002

someone had to have been hazed from all the Guiness to find this a romantic bar. Sounds like their idea of romance would be Monday Night Football with the guys while the little woman gathers the beer and peanuts. Don't get me wrong, Rula Bula is a fun place to catch an Irish Jig or enjoy a Guiness, but not if you're going for candlelight and red roses. more

Dig it 6/26/2002

  • In Short
Designed and built in Ireland, this bar was shipped to Tempe and reassembled. Crying in your beer is always an option here, but don't be fooled by the sign claiming that they only serve Guinness--there's a wide selection of import beers and ales. The crowd is mixed, but it skews toward the quarter-life-ers after 10pm. There's a variety of pub favorites, from oysters Rockefeller to Wendy Paine O' Brien's spicy lemon shrimp and Irish bread pudding.
