Independent Import

I purchased our BMW from Independent Import 4 years ago, I have loved the car, and very much appreciated how good of care I have received from Thayne, Matt, Ricardo and everyone. I now take all my cars to Independent Import. I especially enjoy how they call and talk to you about the repairs, will show you the work required, and never try to shove down your throat additional work the car doesn't need. I even went in saying I thought I needed new brakes, they looked at them and told me I didn't and sent me on my way. I think most other places would have just happily replaced the brakes, or pretended to replace the brakes and charged me. I was coming up from Southern California and my 2002 MB C320 started acting up. Seemed like it wasn't getting fuel. It was Saturday of Labor Day, 2010, no one helps you on those days. I was able to get in touch with someone there who got me in contact with their owner. Though he wasn't able to get me the help I needed that day, parts and all, he gave me good advice to continue my vacation up to the Grand Tetons and said they'd try to have it fixed up by the time I came back through. All in all he was able to contact me and discuss what they found, give me a fair estimate and had me on my way when I came home. He didn't try to get me to fix things that didn't need fixing and was able to find a solution to my problem without breaking my vacation bank. I don't mind spending money when I'm getting quality and integrity. I would spend my time and money there because I felt as if I could count on them. more

Let me tell you about Independent Imports and how they do business COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY. My 2000 BMW 740IL had numerous problems. Every time the CHECK ENGINE light came on, I heard a cash register sound. The LOCAL BMW dealer (SLC, Ut and Pleasant Grove, Ut) and other shops were NO HELP WHATSOEVER! The dealer charged THOUSANDS of $$$, but another problem always arose in just a few weeks. Independent Imports changed that. Just over two YEARS ago, in 2009, Independent Imports completed a thorough inspection and repair recommendation finally addressing every problem in my BMW 740IL. Two years later, I've not had a single new problem. And, it doesn't stop there. For the past two years, Matt and Ricardo (best BMW tech in Utah!!!) have freely provided advise and support keeping my 740 in first rate shape. I highly recommend Matt, Ricardo and Thayne at Independent Imports. A good (and honest) BMW shop is hard to find. You won't find a better BMW repair source in the SLC, Utah area. I've tried just about them all. It's worth the drive if you're out of the PROVO area. Well worth it!!! more

My family was on a road trip heading back toward the Bay Area when our 2001 Passat began making a strange sound from the front end. We found Independent Import online and gave them a call from an hour outside of Provo. Thayne, the owner, said to bring the car in, even though it was outside of normal service hours. Thayne thoroughly examined the car, correctly diagnosed the problem -- a barely visible warp in the tire -- and got us safely back on the road that day. He answered all of our questions and even took the time to show us how the suspension was designed and what to watch out for in the future. I was most impressed with Thayne's obvious concern for the well-being of both the car and, especially, its passengers -- my family. The entire experience was truly above and beyond anything I could have expected. If I lived anywhere near Provo, I would always take my car to Thayne, Winston and the crew at Independent Import. I highly recommend them. By the way, I think Thayne Peterson is the new owner - the reviews about Lonnie seems to be outdated. Pros: Excellent service Cons: We don't live in Utah more

Ive been to the dealer and other shops and NONE have taken care of me like Indpendent Import in Provo. With the new ownership of Independent (Owner) Thayne Peterson. They have made my 3 BMWl's that I own drive smooth for a great price. With Matt at service dept manager and Ryan over sales they are a class act. I tell my family and friends to go there and they always taken care of them. Thanks guys keep up the good work. more

Tried once and will never take my car there again or recommend. Found Lonnie to be unproffecional and rude. ' I DON'T WANT YO WORK ON YOUR CAR' I guess I will take my busines elsewhere. more

I've owned four Volkswagens and taken all of them to Lonnie @ Independet Imports (formerly Independent VW). He is always fair and forthright. If you want to get jerked around my money-hungry grease monkeys, go somewhere else. If you want great service and fair prices go to Independent Imports. more
