I've been to Impressions twice since 3/5/2012

I've been to Impressions twice since the beginning of this year and have found myself disappointed both times. However, let me start off by saying that the salon has a great staff that seems very knowledgeable and polite, they always are able to get me in for an appointment when I call, the salon is clean, and they offer student discounts on Mondays, which is great. Unfortunately, the haircuts themselves really left me disappointed. Impressions has a tiered system, and stylists are on a level between 1 and 5, 5 being the highest/most expensive. Both of my haircuts were done by level 4 stylists. My two experiences are described below, but basically I gave them 2 stars because I've been disappointed with my haircuts, not because of the salon or staff themselves. My first haircut was back in January, and I met with a male stylist that had been at Impressions for 10+ years. I have long hair that had not been cut in over a year, so I was well overdue to get a few inches taken off. I have had super short hair before, so I made sure to tell him I was fine with him taking off whatever he needed to, and that I wanted to get bangs. He seemed VERY cautious about taking off any length, and even more worried about cutting my bangs. I showed him how i part my hair far to the side so that the bangs sweep across my forehead, and he repeatedly parted from the middle, inching over, and cut the bangs very long--they were face-framing layers, not bangs. He also two over TWO HOURS to cut my hair, which, while I appreciate him taking his time, was kind of ridiculous for some smooth layers and bangs. He was trying out a new technique that gives hair lots of movement, but ultimately took way too long to execute and didn't really remove any of the split ends I wanted off. In the end, I left feeling like I'd hardly had my hair cut, still had split ends, and ended up re-cutting my bangs myself at home. My second haircut I had at the beginning of March with a female stylist. I actually really like her personality, and she was great at explaining many ways for me to care for my long hair. I haven't had hair past my shoulders since my gradeschool days, and was struggling with tangling and breakage. She a few products, but also many helpful tips like braiding it at night, combing with conditioner in the shower, and brushing it by layer when dry. I came in to her explaining I wanted whatever length she deemed necessary cut off, as well as some layers for lift and re-shaping of my bangs from the last time I was in. I was really happy with the length she took off and the job she did on my bangs, but when she went to cut layers, I was surprised at how unfinished they looked. She combed three sections of my hair to their opposite sides (right over left, left over right, and back over to the front) and chopped off large sections. I'm fine with using this method to cut some initial length into layers, but she never polished it up in anyway! The end result was choppy layers set above the rest of the length of my hair. She also didn't style my hair AT ALL, even after she asked a girl to go get her straightener? She then seemed in a hurry to get me out, not even asking if I was happy with the cut; just a quick ""anything else I can do for you?"" and whipped off the cape. I'm disappointed, because it would have been a great cut if she had just taken the time to even out the layers and toss in some product. Anyway, I have lots of friends who have been happy with Impressions, and they definitely have a polite and friendly staff. I'm just kind of tired of coming home disappointed, so I think I'm going to have to try somewhere else for now. more

Owner is rude and her prices are sky 1/8/2012

Owner is rude and her prices are sky high. I've experienced better. I went to the theater to see Chipwrecked with my kids to get a discount and used it but it barely made a dent with her prices. The boutique items are junky and the stylist totally messed up my bangs. The service was a bit stuffy. I figured she would have tried Groupon or something else. Manicures and Pedicures are about 3x the price they are at A Nails and Bella Lei and do not last as long. She advertises ""crybaby"" mascara is a ripoff and $60+ and only lasts for two weeks which I tried during her training event and ended up waiting about two hours before it even got applied and once it did it BURNED. I wanted to just leave, I should have. I've gone to other salons before like Carters and found the services and prices to be much more reasonable. Her staff leaves you waiting and is not very talkative. She boasts ""best salon"" but it ends up being a place where you get mostly glares and prices that are not reasonable. Also... anyone know how she is ""green"" because I do not see any products that she uses that are green in any way, shape or form? D- for this salon! Avoid! more

look no further for great salon/spa services! 9/12/2011

I've been coming to Impressions for as long as I can remember. Even before I became a client, my stepmother and father would get their hair done there and I remember coming in with them. Eventually I started coming myself after my sister got a color and cut done by Madison and I loved it so much, I stared going. She always knows exactly what I want and I've never left unhappy after having my hair done by her. I'm constantly getting compliments on my hair too! I recently got a wax done by one of the estheticians, Carla, and she was great as well. I'll be going back to her for a facial asap! I love the atmosphere. The staff is so friendly and they're all very relaxed and easy going. They're all so nice and it's such a great experience every time I go that I have no problem spending my money there. I'm more than happy to support their business! I'd come in more often if my budget would allow!! I love that they have a relaxed dress code and all the staff wears fun, stylish clothing - not all black like most places (how boring)! They use great products like Aveda, Redken, and Pureology (my personal favorite) and also carry all kinds of cute non-hair items like purses, scarves, jewelry, and even the cutest little iPod speakers. They play a great variety of music too! I honestly can't imagine going anywhere else! I've gone to other places over the years and even a couple since I started going to Impressions because I was able to get a deal or something but none of them even come close to Impressions! If you're looking for someone for hair, skin, nails, or massage, look no further, Impressions is the best of the best! more

best color ever 7/18/2007

I had been going to this other place in Mequon and my ends were white and my other hair was this ugly gold. I can't believe tImpressions fixed it. I went to Erin and she knew exactly what to do. It wasn't cheap but Erin explained exactly what I needed and what it would cost for every step. It wan't outrageuous either. I was happy to get it fixed. It took like five steps it was so messed up. The cut is awesome. The place is beautiful. I went there once a long time ago and I fogot how nice they are. I can't remember why I stopped going there. I'm just glad I found it again. I also got a pedicure when I was there. She was great too but I forgot her name. Pros: parking, price, friendly, open every day Cons: too busy couldn't get a manicure with the pedicure more

open sundays and nights-suzy is trhe best colorist and haircutter 5/24/2007

I look for a place that is clean and the people look good. when i walked into this place i knew it was for me. i don't know how suzy changed my hair but whatever she did was perfect. it's kind of the same cut and color but it's more like i see on t.v. the guy who did it before made it look like my mom's. nice but kind of last year. i want to go back for a facial or massage or something. oh yah, it's very pretty in there. i never would have though that from the outside. Pros: good parking, very urban look, suzy taught me how to do my hair myself Cons: suzy doesn't work sundays more

Color was great and the salon looks like New York, pedicure spas are unbelievable 5/24/2007

The people there were so nice. Usually when I go to a place this cool the people act like they are too cool for a person like me who shows up in jeans. I liked the fact that they have this whole envirnmental thing going on. Someone at the desk was telling me how the mirrors are recycled copper from the roof somewhere in New York or something and they have wind powered energy and they redid the lighting. I can't remeber but I really respect that. I went to Alyssa for color and she did the best color and cut i have ever had. Terri did my pedicure they have these chairs that go up and down and are the cleanest I have ever seen. I will be back for sure! Pros: open sundays and every night Cons: too many cool things to buy. i'll be eating ramen for a month. cool purses, jewelry, sunglasses more
