Best

The parking lot is always full within an hour of opening. We are usually able to get a seat at the sushi bar. The sushi is as good as we have had anywhere. Pros: null Con...

Excellent! 11/23/2010

Ichiban is the best place for sushi and hibachi in Syracuse! The service is excellent, the meals are delicious and prices are extremely fair for the generous portions that you receive. Each item of our meal was cooked to prefection by our talented chef. Wonderful dining experience! more

Wonderful! 3/25/2009

Good: Great food, reasonable healthy, large portions, excellent service, reasonably priced, cooked right in front of you. Bad: you are forced to sit at a large table with other families. Improvements: more room for individual families to sit. Other: I would recommend this to anyone!. more

Your food is the entertainment! 8/22/2006

We were looking for an Asian restaurant in the Syracuse area last weekend and my husband stumbled on the Iciban Japanese steak house. We were meeting up with friends who have slightly less adventurous palates, so we figured this place would have something for everyone. The parking lot was surprisingly full at 4:30PM on a Sunday, which we took to be a promising sign. There were plenty of tables available, although the hostess indicated that sometimes several separate parties are seated together at one large table/grill. That seemed odd to me, but perhaps it is the norm at this type of place. The menu is fairly large, including sushi, steak, tempura, teriyaki and more. My husband had the "regular" sushi dinner, which included about a dozen pieces of sashimi and California rolls. He said it was good, but not as good as we used to get in NYC. I had the vegetable tempura which was deliciously crispy and among the best I've had. Our friends both had the steak, which was cooked in front of us by a very entertaining and skilled chef on the built-in grill top on our table. He wowed us by creating large flaming blazes, flipping ingredients through the air, and bouncing an egg repeatedly on his metal spatula. He definitely wasn't Japanese, but we didn't care! I would recommend this as a place to go with friends, but also with guests that you don't know too well. (The flying food will give you a topic of conversation!) Be aware that the table-top flames and flying knives may be scary for small kids. more

Japanese Steakhouse 4/5/2006

I recently took my husband to Ichibans in Syracuse for his birthday dinner. I have heard from many people that it was a different experience that you must try for yourself. You sit at a horseshoe shaped table, that seats 10, with a cooking surface in the middle. Every table gets their own personal chef, who cooks your meal right in front of your eyes. Included in the price is: soup, salad, rice, an appetizer and the main course. more

Nice Asian Steakhouse 3/20/2006

This is a good restaurant to go to with a large group of people. There are many different areas to sit at....seating at a sushi bar, tables close to the floor in the traditional asian style, and large tables that you can sit and watch the chefs make your dinner in front of you. The reason it's better if you go wiht a large group of people is otherwise you have to sit with strangers. If you eat at the large table, the food is plentiful and good. The sushi bar is nice and usually not too busy, especially when the wait for a table is rather long. more

Japanese Steakhouse 8/12/2005

For those of you who have not been to a Japanese Steakhouse, you sit at tables/grills of eight people. So if you are a group smaller than that you sit with others who you may or may not know. A chef comes out and makes your food in front of your eyes throwing knifes and eggs and other food with various levels of skill. This should be great, you get a show, the food is made right in front of you so it should be fresh and cooked to perfection. The show will vary from chef to chef, the food may vary as well, but the food that we had was not all that good for the price. My scallops were done well I can not complain. The salad of iceberg lettuce was not even worth the effort to eat. Then there was this dipping sauce, which I am not sure what it was made of, but everyone at the table, all who apparently frequent this establishment, could not get enough of it and raved and raved about how good it was. But I personally did not understand the attraction it tasted like a mayo/shrimp cocktail combo that should never had been made. In summary, you may want to go just to see for yourself what goes on in a Japanese Steakhouse, but don't expect Japanese or steakhouse type of food. more
