Fast, Fun, and Fantastic 2/4/2012

With the pletra of mexican/southwestern dining spots on Hull Street (there are 5 winth 3 miles of our house). We have consistantly gone back to Hot Tamale for the last 7 years. The service is always fun, friendly and super fast. The menu has more choices than the ""others"" . Being able to ""design"" your own main dish and picking your own sides rather than the standard rice and beans is great- especially when dieting or for our picky teens. Thank you for having such a wonderful mom and pop place ! more

The Best Mexican Food in Town 10/12/2009

I have to eat here when I visit the area. Very friendly place and great food! Pros: The best chimichanga more

Best Mexican Around 1/28/2009

My Wife, 2 kids and I spend a couple of nights a week lounging in the booths of the hot tamale cafe. When you first sit down you are bombarded with a mountain of fresh fried chips and some Delicious homemade salsa. Typically we get a cheese dip, but it is always a large because that stuff goes quick (i have never had a better cheese sauce!!!) There are plenty of meals to brag about, but our family typically orders the regular. Some of the waitstaff can even predict what we want. My wife always chooses the Southwest Chicken CHimichanga, which tastes like heaven (large fried tortilla with chix and cheese dip). My favorite is the Tacos De Azada, with the chipotle tomatilla salsa. That is hands down the tasties salsa i have ever eaten, and i love dipping my tacos in it. As for the kids, the kids menu is full of very large portioned meals. Nothing, to unhealthy as well. All in all this is one of the best neighborhood resteraunts, and My family and I really enjoy spending our time and money here. I sinserly recommend that if you have not tried this resteraunt you give it a chance. Pros: Great Service staff; Cheap meal; Excelllet Quality; Healthy; Non SMoking more

Superb SouthWest Mexican Food!!!!!! 1/13/2009

This is the best Southwest Mexican in The country Hands Down!!!! I have traveled and ate in many places across the great states, and this food keeps me coming back again and again. For those of you looking for traditional mexican they have a few good items, but they serve primarily southwestern dishes. If your looking for some flavorfull steak tacos (Their phenominal macho tacos), or perhaps a delacasy from the sea (fajitas mariscos) Hot tamale will surely give you a full belly and a smile on your face. The service is good, and the food comes out at lightning speed. Its come out so quickly sometimes, we barely touch the chips. Another great part of the meal is the free chips and salsa. It is one of the better salsas ive tried, and as i have been told, it is made fresh every day. Dont forget the cheese dip though, that stuff will surly make your basket of chips dissapear. In Short I would Highly Recommend This restaurant to anyone that wants to have a great meal, in a fun environment. Best for last, they finally Have a Happy hour (and a bartender that knows how to make a stiff drink) Pros: very fast service Cons: some items are a little expensive more

Never go to the One in Deer Run 8/14/2008

My family and i went there on wed 8/13/08 and we ordered 86 dollars worth of food and drinks. The food was awsome it was every bit worth the money but the service was really really slow. it was so slow i had to go into the kitchen at the end of the meal to get my left over food in a doggy bag and our check. that is before i waited at my table for 20 minutes. The other bad experience was that we ordered margarita's and the bartender told us they have no salt. the bartender also didnt even put it in the right glass. Oh and on a side note one of my family members asked for no corn in there meal and guess wut when he finally got his meal it had corn in it. Luckily he is not allegic he just doesnt like corn. Normally when u go out to a restaurant and spend that kind of money you expect better service. we will never go there again and we will tell everybody what bad service that place has. Pros: Food Cons: Drinks and service more

LOOOOVE Hot Tamale! 8/11/2008

Hot Tamale is a locally owned Mexican restaurant with a great atmosphere and extremely friendly service. They make fantastic food (I suggest the taco salad with grilled chicken for lunch- they'll make it for you at dinner, too)- & make sure you ask for the 'white' salsa- yum. The food is fresh, served quickly, and we love it. They offer great coupons in the local ads, too. Margaritas are fresh & delicious! I completely disagree with the one guy who gave the negative review... this place is awesome and has been our family favorite for three years. Smoke free, clean... nothing to complain about. We don't go anywhere else for Mexican food & the kids love it as much as we do. Pros: Atmosphere, service, food, drinks more

Still searching for good Mexican food? Keep looking! 5/11/2008

My family and I ate at this place for the first time last night. It reminds me of the type of place I used to go to as a college student with friends, but if you're looking for quality and authenticity, I'd pass. The corn tacos are from a box, the salsa looks like it's made from canned tomatoes, the cheese is yellow, the tacos de carne asada had BBQ sauce for flavoring, and the beans also seemed to originate from a can. Pros: plenty of parking, prices are reasonable, location is easy to get to, service was pleasant Cons: food was poor quality and not authentic Mexican more

BEST MEXICAN IN RICHMOND! 10/25/2005

My wife and I drive 45 mintues to eat here, and it's SOOOOOO worth it! All the ingrediants are fresh and you can tell that its not from some vat that was made that morning. I just wish the owner, Ryan, would open another restaurant on this side of the river! He's ALWAYS around making sure everything about your meal is perfect. I've never had a bad meal - everything is just awesome! ! ! ! Pros: Fresh ingrediants, Great selections, Truly Authentic Cons: Not next to my house!, Need more locations more

Addicted!! 6/29/2005

I highly recommend dining here. My husband and I are completely addicted. We find ourselves eating at here at least twice a week. Oh, I almost forgot, they have take out too!!! :) Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere more

Great Place to Eat! 1/30/2005

It's a great family oriented place. The owners dig right into the work and help serve everyone to make sure everyone is completely satisfied. They have the best food and the best service compared to the other restaurants that are listed in the area! It's worth going the extra mile to try out!! Pros: great food, great service, friendly Cons: none! more

This place rocks..... 5/30/2004

This tiny wonderful piece of heaven is just a couple of miles from our house. Thank GOD!!!!! We have decided that this is the best Mexican food in town. The service is good, the food is authentic and we have yet to taste anything even remotely mundane here. The owner is always around and asks how you liked your meal....wants to know if there is anything in particular that you think is better than others, and if changes should be made to the menu...ie....adding new items or changing items....we like it just the way it is...so..we just tell him to keep it the same. The atmosphere is casual, and family friendly...and they have wonderful desserts.!!!! Pros: TASTY, inexpensive, convenient more
