Very good Korean Food. The service is a bit slow but understandable, because this restaurant is always...

Worst

I love Soontofu. Although it was not the same as the one I had in 2006 on my first trip to Seattle, Soontofu was still delicious. However, If I'm to be served by the angry old lad...

Authentic, but..... 9/6/2005

Most of the reviews of this restaurant said that the food was great and the service not so great. I would respectfully beg to differ. The food is probably great if you're a Korean. If you're a westerner, you may find some of the offerings not to your taste. As a for instance, we had the tofu soup with seafood. While the broth and the tofu were fine, the seafood not exactly fresh. As for the service, it was great. Prompt and attentive. I did notice that a couple of large groups had lined up as we left, waiting no doubt for an equally large table. It was clear that the restaurant would soon be packed to the gills. The bill was outstanding. Two people well fed with a wide variety of food for 16 bucks and change + tip. more

Best of the Best 6/8/2004

Even after moving to DC for 2 years, my husband & I are still craving for Hosoonyi. We have yet to find matching meals here! Though the services are bad even for Koreans, the food is worth the wait. When we visit Seattle, that's the first place we'll go for dinner! Go early for better services!!! more

Best Food, Worst Service 3/31/2004

Let's be honest. This is a Korean restaurant. If you don't know Korean restaurants, you need to learn. The service at this restaurant will never be as quick as you want it to be, so chill - chat with your friends, catch up, socialize. The wait for the food is worth it. If you don't have the patience to sit still, don't come - it's as easy as that. If you want some of the best Korean food in Washington and are willing to wait for it, this is the restaurant for you. Pros: best korean food, big portions more

Bad experience = two unhappy customers 3/11/2004

I used to be a regular customer until one evening while my date and me were having dinner and found a hair inside one of the side dishes. When we approached the waitress with the hair, she just took the dish away and never came back! My date and I lost our appetite and was disgusted at the thought of even eating any more. We were never given any apology at all. To make matters worse, the next day, we both suffered an upset stomach from the food we ate that night before (although our appetite was ruined, we didn't want to waste any food since we were paying money from our own pocket to eat). Need I say more? Cons: , small/crowded, compact parking more

Good service! 1/17/2004

I agree with all reviewers that the food is GREAT!. Although busy, I have always had very fast and courteous service. I felt very comfortable as a non-Korean speaker, which isn't always the case at Korean restaurants! Highly Recommended!! Pros: inexpensive, great food Cons: busy, busy, busy more

This Foodie's Favorite Place 6/17/2003

I have eaten at Nobu's in Manhattan and Miami, Matsuhisa's, Iron Chef Morimoto's place in Philly, Joe's Stone Crabs, Mario Battali's Lupa, Pinks Chili Dogs, Wild Ginger, the French Laundry... none of them compare to Hosoonyi's. Pros: best tofu stew, free banchan more

CT 1/30/2003

Long wait is almost certain. But hey! There must be some reasons for people willing to stand in the line... Food is good and price is fair. Tofu hotpot is a must to try. The seafood pancake is also good (Like a medium size pizza) don't be afraid to get more small dishes (kimchi, radish etc.), they are delicious. Only one suggestion to them is to hire more waitresses. They are always in a hurry. From Sitting customers, taking order, serving food and drink, to cleaning tables; they do them all. No wonder people always complain about their no-smile waitress, and slow service. Anyway, its worth to try. Pros: good food, fair price Cons: long wait, no-smile waitress, slow service more

Great Soon Dubu 9/26/2002

Their specialty is Soon Dubu Chige (soft tofu soup), and it's excellent. Comes sizzling in bowl in different flavors: seafood, beef, pork, kimchi. You absolutely MUST order the haemul pajon (seafood pancake). It is unbelievable. more

Good food Bad service 9/25/2002

i went there with my friend because she told me it's the best Korean food. But she also warn me about the service. well, it's true that servers are not friendly at all even with Korean customers(you won't even see their smile). my friend had to walk to ask for more hot tea. we waited anout half and hour to get the food. and yes, it's all delicious. If you want to have real Korean food and don't mind long waiting in busy hour and unfriendly servers, i guess it's okay to give it a try. Good luck! Pros: tasty food, parking Cons: bad service, long line more

Pros: Good Food, Friendly services Cons: Too crowded, Long wait to order more
