Best

Good lunch deals, big portions, and many sides come with it. Been going here for years. Pros: Parking

Worst

Please! RedBones in Somerville. The Hard Cover in Saugus. The OUT BACK Steak house even, but not the HillTop they don't rate for anything except the biggest steak house in town. ...

Can't beat it! 11/12/2002

Been going there for most of my 25 years. Never had one bad meal! I live for the Filet Mignon. My only complaint is the lake of dressing on the salad more

terrible 11/9/2002

Bonanza and other bottom rung steak houses serve better beef. more

old reliable 11/5/2002

If you try to find new steak house you seem to always come back to old reliable. plus you can do your grocery shopping at same time. Pros: good food, good portions, good price Cons: waiting more

bad 10/24/2002

Not good - baked potatoes are micrwaved making them gray in color more

What happened? 10/21/2002

The Hill Top Steak House used to be the place to go for steak in the greater Boston area. In the early eighties the service was great, the food was great, and you got good value for your dollar; The lines were out the door, but the anticipation of the food and dining experience was worth the wait! What happened? The past few times I have gone to the Hill Top the wait was still long, but the payoff fell short! The service was barely there, the food was overpriced as well as of poor quality. When you go out to dinner with six people, five of the six people should not have some kind of complaint with the food! Where did the ""old"" Hill Top, that we all knew and loved, go? Pros: family dining, parking Cons: overpriced, long wait, food average at best more

THEY HAVE LOST IT! 10/7/2002

Steak was lousy, sides were worse, too big. I use to go here in the 70's and early 80's. It was awesome then. Ever since the expansion and then subsequent downsize they have lost it. Need to take some lessons from the Outback on side dishes and Steak consistency. more

The legend is dead! 10/7/2002

The food was overcooked and the quality was of the meat was less than a typical grocery store. The place is old and tired. The variety of side dishes was typical boiled New England fare (although I always did like the beets). The attached meat market is just a shadow of the quality from which it debuted. The big neon sign and fake cows out fron are legendary, but the legendary meat is only in the mind of those who visited it when Frank ran the show originally. Pros: big portions, reasonable prices, strong drinks Cons: meat quality, originality, variety more

Over Rated! 9/17/2002

May be I just had 2 bad experiences in a row. Food was not great. Slow service even when the restaurant was half empty. And the rest was history more

Everybody visits here once. 9/16/2002

Went on Friday night, 9/13/2002. No waiting, what a surprise! Dining areas could use a face lift. Portions still large and good price. Had the beef rib special. Pretty good. Would go back again. Pros: Easy Parking-free, Reasonable prices, Large portions Cons: Gets busy on weekends, No reservations, Needs a face lift. more

Ain't like it used to be 8/29/2002

Hilltop Steak House may have been a great place to get steak at one time, but now it is just tired. The decor is tacky, the service casual and the steaks mediocre. Their tossed salad looks like it just came out of a plastic bag with a few tomato wedges thrown in for color. My steak was 14 oz. but about 4 oz. of that was fat! I've had much better steaks at Bugaboo Creek for the same price. Pros: Parking, Lots of seating Cons: Steak is so-so more

YUM YUM MOOOOOOOOOORE 8/11/2002

I prefer the Braintree location, less crowded and closer to my home. Both locations are great for those of us who still love our red meat. They cook it to perfection (as long as you know how you like your meat). Yes there is a difference between medium-rare and medium! Also good selection of fish, chicken for the rest of the gang. Good children's menu. Pros: good quality, braintree has butcher Cons: crowded more

The only thing I crave all day 7/24/2002

Hilltop can do no wrong with there cuts. There prime rib melts in your mouth and not in your wallet. On a reasonable wekkend menu you can get Prime rib for under ten bucks 16 ounces no less. The meal is amazing starting off with incredible rolls and butter. I personally stack up on these but always find room for the steak and three sides. Oh yes, they also have the best steak fries. Pros: cheap, authentic, keeps them coming Cons: can't ride the cows, parking always packed, you can't stop eating more

Terrible 7/11/2002

I can't believe the great ratings! What is wrong with you guys.... I've lived in Malden all my life, and I have been to the Hilltop quite a few times... only because people want to go there.... Not any more ... I refuse to go back... the food is terrible, the decor is ridiculous, needless to say, filthy,,, you want good steak and Prime Rib ... to to Pearl Street Cafe in malden.... Great food, great prices..... more
