I have to totally disagree with the previous posters assessment of Hays Market in Berthoud. Having shopped there since Hays first opened in their old location I've had nothing but friendly service and great luck. Yes, the prices on "some" items are necessarily higher than at a major supermarket - they must be for a small independent to stay in business. But you can get things from Hays you can't find in other places. For example, the deli makes some of the very best burritos available and the prices are right! Their produce in my experience is both fresh and sometimes lower priced than King Supers or Safeway. They carry specialty items such as award winning Virgil's Root Beer which can't be found at other local supermarkets.
Yes, it's possible to sometimes get spoiled milk - not just at Hays but at any supermarket. I've found out-of-date dairy products at the largest supermarkets in Longmont as well; that's the nature of the business. People can make mistakes.
If there were a major market on the corner of any intersection in Berthoud I would "still" shop at Hays were I've never been disappointed other than in the parking situation since they have been in business. Highly recommended in my opinion.
