Lovin this Venice Sushi 11/9/2011

I ate here on Saturday night with my family & liked it. the cool part is the surf movies that play on the wall while ur eating. I think they r all 1970's surf movie's projected on the walls. The sushi was good quality meat and the atmosphere is super stylish. I definitely want to come back and eat here again. more

Hama Sushi in Venice 4/19/2011

I have been coming to Hama Sushi since 1990 because of the ideal location and upbeat atmosphere. I must say that ever since current owner (Esther) took the reins at Hama, the quality of cuisine is stellar. Everything you order is mouthwatering! I highly recommend the fillet mignon dish - simply put it is the most tender meat you will ever not need to chew...and very reasonably priced. Great fun for birthdays, private events, watching surf movies, or catching a ball game. This place will ROCK YOUR WORLD!! more

The Best Sushi in Venice 1/15/2010

Hama's specialty rolls are my favorite. The strawberry roll is so good... don't be scared to try it! The Venice roll is perfection. They have happy hour everyday at the bar and the prices are super reasonable. Very fun atmosphere and perfect for dates! Oh, and the desserts are amazing. Tempura cheesecake and banana fritters. Wow! Pros: specialty rolls: amazing; fish: always fresh; patio: fun! more

Happy Hour Rocks! 10/7/2009

Came to Hama after work w/ a coworker for some sushi and sake. Happy hour menu did it for us. We nearly ordered everything on there! We had some sushi to go with our dishes, but the popcorn shrimp and rice cakes are awesome. Happy hour must be a popular time since the bar was full. There's something about Hama that makes you feel like you're at home. The servers are really nice, and so are the complete strangers sitting next to you. Food is great, highly recommend!!! Pros: Awesome choices on Happy Hour menu more

Two thumbs up!!!!!!! 2/15/2009

Ok, if you love sushi there is something extremely addictive to Hama !!! From the Green Devil to the Spicy Crunchy Crab...seared tuna sashimi...Black Cod......the fish is super fresh, I've been a costumer for over 3 years and kitchen and sushi bar are very consistent! The owners, management and staff are friendly and provide excellent costumer service! Two thumbs up for Hama! more

Great sushi! 2/6/2009

I thought this restaurant was pretty great. The pros were the amazingly fresh sushi, the friendly service, the drinks. The only con was, well, how friggin' popular this place is. The bar was SO crowded on the Saturday night. more

After being a regular for over two years, I have to add my kudos to Hama. Pros: Great sushi, fun atmosphere, great saki selection, great happy hour more

Decent setting - way overpriced - not worth the cost 12/10/2008

Hama needs to get real with its prices. Seriously. Some sushi, a beer, and a glass of wine = $85. That's nuts. I mean it's not like we are dining on the french riveria over looking the Mediterranean. $6.50 for a skimpy sized order of yellow tale? It was just yellow tale - not truffles. Give me a break. Hama, like most restaurants now, needs to WAKE UP and smell the coffee - there is a recession - a massive recession - and an $85 tab for what we got is not going to cut or, nor keep them in business. HAMA - LOWER YOUR PRICES OR FORGET ABOUT IT. YOUR NOT WORTH IT. GET REAL. Pros: nothing remarkable at all Cons: WAY OVERPRICED. POOR VALUE. more

Much Nicer Now 10/1/2008

I used to go to Hama in the late 90's and it was getting well worn. Now that I'm back in LA, I thought what the hell. I went and found out that there is a new owner from the last time that I went. The place has been cleaned up and the food is still great. One of the best places for sushi and a fun place. The servers made me feel welcome and the chefs are the best in the business. Pros: sushi, food more

still the best ! 6/22/2008

i used to go to HAMA ALL the time when i lived in venice, then i moved to santa monica and started going to all the sushi places in sm, more for convinience. Pros: fresh, taste, creativity, choice more

Great sushi and service! 6/16/2008

Excellent Sushi and service. The staff is very friendly and will helpfully recommend the best items on the menu. The semi-outdoor tent area in the front has a great vibe to it as well. Pros: Excellent sushi and service Cons: slightly pricey on some items more

Best Sushi in Venice 4/25/2008

This is my favorite sushi place on the Westside. I've been coming here since I was a kid and have never had a bad experience. I always try to sit at the sushi bar; every chef is amazing and very accomidating. If you tell them to make you something delicious and to leave out what you dislike, you will end up with the best sushi you've ever had. Everytime I come I leave completely stuffed and satisified and having tried a fish I never thought I'd like. Really fun as a group too. Try the Nigori sake, its cheap and very tasty. more

I won't be back!~ 2/27/2008

I don't even know where to begin. Our server seemed to be having an off night, she was ""out to lunch"". I doubt she could be that rude provide such poor service daily and still work there. The sushi was relatively timely but the teriyaki took 40 minutes. We were a party of seven with four children all but one eats sushi. We ordered sushi, two teriyaki platters and an order of chicken skewers for the three year old. The server never bothered to tell us that they were skewered with jalape?o type peppers and wouldn't be a good choice. When it came I explained I couldn't give this to her and asked if it was possible to accommodate the youngest. She was rude and and snipped that it would take a long time. I promptly told her never mind. Pros: My boys like the sufer movies on the TVs Cons: Not child friendly, crummy tuna, rude service more

Great sushi! 12/19/2007

Great sushi! Inventive rolls - especially loved the Surf n' Turf Roll (topped with filet mingnon!) Pros: Great sushi, valet parking more

Good sushi, GREAT atomosphere . . . sit in the patio area 12/17/2007

I go to Hama all the time . . . the sushi is good, and the atmosphere is unbeatable. It's always busy, but you can always get a table. It has a great vibe in there, and they show surf videos on the wall in the patio, which adds the perfect touch. My favorites are the specialty rolls, specifically the Venice roll. I've been there enough to know that the sushi, while good, is not the best in town, but definitely good enough to keep going back to enjoy the atmosphere. The service is generally good, but not outstanding. Pros: atmosphere, valet, ambiance, venice roll Cons: good sushi, but not the best more
