Editorial review from Citysearch 11/20/2012

Do not join this gym! They will rip you off! When I went to Gold's, I informed the Gold?s Gym representative that I only wanted to sign up for a single month since I was ~8 months pregnant at the time. I simply wanted to use the recumbent bike the last month of my pregnancy. I also informed him that I obviously wouldn?t be able to exercise for several weeks to months after the birth of my son. Another reason I only wanted a one month membership. I was told that my membership was good for a single month only, but it was not. I had been enrolled in a recurring monthly membership that automatically billed my credit card. I was *not* told that I would be required to cancel in writing 30 days in advance in order to stop recurring membership fees and that the cancelation letter needed to be sent by certified mail. Seriously?! This practice forces the customer to pay for at least 2 months of membership for a single month of use. I called to resolve this seeming misunderstanding, but was told that I had to take it up with their billing company, ABC Financial Services. ABC Financial told me that they were not authorized to waive fees and that I should contact Gold's Gym. Both avoided addressing my issue by blaming the other party. Looking at the reviews for this gym, it appears that this is a scam that they have been running for some time. Do not join this gym. As others have already posted, they don't care about you - just your money and will do anything to get it. more

Get your workout by running away from this gym now! 4/25/2011

What a rip-off! In response to a ""one month free"" membership, I was then charged an equivalent amount in ""Processing fees"". When I explained I only wanted a short-term commitment and would go elsewhere, I was offered a ""deal"" of no processing fee and just pay first and last month's fees upfront. Upon accepting that and using the facility, I went in to cancel the membership--which I had to do in person, not by phone--and they told me that the credit card had already been charged and they could not reverse it. What? Then I found out that the charges continued for another month thereafter. . . and now they claim that the fine print says they can get away with that and that the person who made that ""deal"" with me was wrong! In trying to dispute this, Gold's says they're hands are tied and it's up to their third party billing company, ABC Finance. ABC says it's up to Gold's Gym. What a classic scam! I had to call ABC three times. The first person ""dropped"" the call. The second put me on hold and never came back. The third person sent me back to Gold's. The whole time you're listening to a recording of how important their customer's are to them. In short, this is simply a dishonest company. Their business model is designed to take advantage of people by confusing them, overcharging, and fighting until the customer gives up in frustration. What they said in person at first is not what they are saying today and apparently not what is in their fine print--which I did actually read and couldn't make sense of. They do not care about their clients. They seem to not care that anybody and everybody has negative experiences with them--see other reviews. They are counting on the fact that most people are not going to argue about $120. They just didn't bargain on the fact that I am not ""most people"". more

Worst Gym I have ever been to.....period.? 4/11/2010

Starting with the membership. If you like buying used cars from slimy car salesmen, this is the place to go. They ask you questions first to see how much you can pay. Then, they discount the full price to make you think you are getting a bargain. They tell you you can get money from your health insurance but if any of this is wrong, they will not lower the price. Once you sign, you are finished. Then, they point out the two new cycling machines they bought. Trouble is, everything else is falling a apart. I almost killed myself on a treadmill that the belt was so worn it was shiny. Don't bother telling anyone because no one that works there cares. Most of the time, the gym smells not of a gym but of body odor that clings to everything you wear. I cannot see that they ever clean anything at all. Do not even go to the showers or the locker room. I went in once and it is the last time. I would rather go home sweaty than catch anything from that place. Finally, you are not joining Gold's gym when you join this place. You are joining a local gym that has the Gold's name. That's it. Whats funny? They don't even care that the place is terrible. Go somewhere else....Anywhere else. Pros: cheap is you negotiate. Cons: expensive if you dont. Old equipment. Smelly, Dirty. staff? more

Impossible to cancel your membership 5/12/2008

A year ago I wanted to join a gym (new year's resolution). The most convenient place for me was Gold's Gym in Concord, MA. I went in, got a tour, and ended up signing up. Unfortunately for me, that was the biggest mistake ever. Pros: makes you enjoy exercising outside Cons: cancelling, customer service, fees, more
