Favorite casual hangout spot 4/4/2012

Poor's is definitely my favorite place to go for a few drinks and some jukebox music and pool playing. The bartenders know how to make a good margarita, and I'm pretty picky. I've never had anything short of a great time :) more

Bar food extraordinaire! 8/7/2006

Outside of the workers in the area, General Poor's remains a well kept secret. It is busiest at weekday lunch because the Bergen County courthouse is across the street. All the office workers in the other buildings must keep them hopping as well. But in the late afternoons, there is always room in the dining room, and the food is excellent! They have a large bar as you enter, and a loyal gaggle of regulars that take in the sports on the TVs around that area. there are two TVs in the dining room too, so you can see the NY area sports teams while you grub. This is good burgers and chips. We got hooked on some killer nachos - the best we ever had anywhere! A half portion is plenty for two, maybe even three, and they don't spare the heat! \r \r They have a ""Big Bad Bortie Burger"" that is my favorite, a cheesburger with crisp bacon, grilled onions and mushrooms. They also have a killer salad topped with shrimp and a cesar dressing. we never miss getting the fried calamari and when it's available, some of the best New England Clam Chowder you can find. That, and first class taps and spirits straight from the bar, you cannot go wrong! Just don't tell too many people - we're spoiled, and like being able to walk right in and sit down without a wait. There are a precious few spots to park across the street on a little side street at meters. Careful though - even in off hours, there is probably a good business among the predatory towing community, so even if it's a lot behind a building somewhere that looks harmless, look carefully for signs about parking restrictions. On any given afternoon, General Poors is the perfect spot to grab a munch. There is a lot more on the menu and daily specials. Just bring an appetite! Pros: You'll think you found a secret hideaway more
