Editorial review from Citysearch 2/12/2014

You do not need to attend Fit Center, Gwen is rude and yells at the top of her voice. she has meeting that run for hours on Sunday talking about not. I am so surprise that anyone even attend fit. If it was not for her training RC she would not have a client. This woman killed her own business with her ""big mouth "" Good job Gwen how you like it now\r more

About Me: I'm Strong Again, I'm managing my weight 2/28/2011

I joined Fit Challenge weight management center in August of 2010. I have lost 55 pounds. I'm eating healthier than I have in my entire life, my body is strong and firm. I fill comfortable knowing that the trainer has years of experience. I did my research before joining the program, and I noticed that everyone i knew who joined the program lost weight. Now that I have lost 55 pounds, I know that I need to keep it off. I have tried to lose over the years and could not keep it off(my cravings are crazy), by I'm taking it one day at a time, staying on track, because it's was what I really, really wanted. I was really sick of being obese, making excuses everytime I attempted to lose weight, and I know it has to come from within, and not from someone else. Now it's about me, and I'm not going to slide backwards. This place teaches you how to be strong inside and out. TeeR -2011 more

How do i sign up? 12/29/2010

Hi can anybody tell me how i go about signing up for fit challange. I've heard great things about it but everytime i try to call to get more information no one answers the phone. more

no resistance training 11/6/2010

what no one is talking about is how all this people are loosing weight only to excess flab all over the place. i went there for one week and they got upset when i asked about weights. they dont even do squats or lounges. also once people stop going there they gain all the weight back and more. they all look like star jonees which we all know is not a good luck. so waste your money if you must. more

All positive no negative 7/16/2009

Enough with the negative regarding fit challenge. There's nowhere in the city or beyond that someone you know or not that has not received great results from fit challenge. it's been happening for years and the results keep coming. it's not necessary and completely contradictory to what I have experienced at fit challenge. People have gone way out there on this. See for yourself before you pass judgement on something you know nothing about. I have lost 86 lbs, another success story. Pros: best results time and time again more

What most people wont admit 6/29/2009

I have been a member of fit challenge since the end of March and went from a size 10/12 to a size 6. It is now the month of June and I feel great. I had heard of people coming in and being yelled at but I was determined to not let that bother me. I wanted the weight off and that is all that mattered. I remember sitting in the orientation and we were getting yelled at but Gwen said something that has stuck with me (this was after she put another lady out for asking crazy questions) She said if you make this whole thing about me or what I say then you are going to fail....it took me back to my navy bootcamp where I had heard something similar. I was off the streets and needed discipline so I could progress. They tore us down and built us back up. That is Gwen's strategy. Her one and only concern for us is that we LOSE THE WEIGHT. I have read all of the reviews and I feel for those that felt negative about her. It is not her job to pat us on the back and nurse us through this...most people won't admit that they have psychological problems to go along with the fat that has accumulated on their bodies so no one can tell them anything. Once we get past our own abuses and quit with the victim mentality we can see that it was not Gwen that sat on the couch night after night shoving icecream down our throats or in those booths at restaurants shoving endless plates of shrimp in our guts it was US! To her defense, I can't imagine what it is like to come into a place everyday where people whine and complain like you made them that way. People don't talk about times where the clients come in moody and rude to her and the staff...I would kick people out too...lol...Needless to say I just want to thank Gwen and Fit challenge for pushing me and showing me that there is more inside of me than I think...I am now thin, fit and very healthy. (not to mention beautiful as all get out!) That's all that counts. Pros: Excellent weight loss strategy, attitude adjustment more

You want results right? 6/16/2009

This weight loss center is great. All of the people that I have seen are walking billboards. I have lost 29 lbs in just 6 weeks and I'm confident that I'll reach phase 4 before Banquet time. This place is not about friends or keeping up with the Jones's it's about you doing what's needed to complete what you started. The trainers are not going to hold your hand through this and I saw that right away coming in the door. I'm glad that I chose to come here. DL Pros: Results all over the city Cons: Not for the weak more

Gwen you are the best! 5/13/2009

you are right Gwen, Tia & Ron and and the rest of her staff are the truth i started out at 249lbs when i left because my job relocated i was 204 i was only going for 4 months i hate hate hate that i'm in lil ole york pa there is no such place like fit challenge to wrk out everyone here is fat and it bothers me. Felicia E Pros: fitchallenge changed my life! Cons: I moved 6 hrs away! more

My Results at Fit Challenge 5/11/2009

My wife and I joined 3 months ago - I have lost 78 lbs, and she's lost 45 lbs. We eat healthier, and excercise regularly. This program has changed our lives and other family members as well. The trainers are real trainers who walk the walk and talk the talk. I personally have seen other tranformations right before my eyes. If you want results and your're strong enough to handle the workouts, then this is where you'll get the same results that we have achieved. If you are sensitive and focus on what you think is wrong about the trainers, staff or any other issue you may think of then you won't last and receive the results that you paid for in the first place. Fit Challenge has help my close friends and family get off medications that they have been taken for years. Thank You Fit Challenge Pros: Best Results Cons: Full parking lot more

Undeniable Results!!! 5/8/2009

Sorry - you guys need to hear the truth. Pros: Effective Exclusive Meal/Exercise plan Cons: Need More Locations more

absolutely horrible: deserves no stars 4/11/2009

Get real Gwen! This is the story of a nappy headed insecure too skinny woman that looks like she's on c**ck. That opens a run down store front and thinks she is queen bee of this fitness place which in reality is where the troll lives. Pros: there are none Cons: insecure, petty, big headed looking, tyrant in charge more

Beginning.... 2/11/2009

I am currently a beginner at Fit Challenge....i actually just joined 2 days ago. When people say that Gwenn is rude, crude, and obnoxious! I understand the words ""Boot Camp"", but she's mean when she doesn't have to be! But I guess she feels she has to stay in ""character"" at all times. On the other hand...the workouts are intense, but affective. Yes, there is a point where you want to fall flat on your face, but there's just something about that place that makes you want more. I feel like I'm carrying a load of heavy rocks on my shoulders right now, but I can't wait to go back tonight! The diet plan could be better though. She makes you stop eating everything in the world...but she doesn't give you a meal plan or recipes. You can't have rice, noodles, bread, nor cereals....or read meat! Ok...I understand cutting all of that out, but if i've been eating all of that stuff all of my life, how do you expect me to just switch my habits on my own? My wife and I just asked a couple people what they eat and went from there. Pros: Good results (you must follow diet plan) Cons: Staff is mean....verbally abusive....and diet plan confusing more

Primary Goal - Get the Money 2/8/2009

02/08/09 - I was referred to FitChallenge by a member and was told about the orientation Gwen holds on Sundays. When I arrived at the gym I was immediately bombarded with the pricing plan (or what was called the only offer of the day) I was not allowed to hear about the program prior to committing, I was told ""you would not be here if you knew the program did not work"". I felt as if I were in a pressure cooker to pay the overly stated $104 before I was even introduced to the program. I was told by a male in the establishment that there would be no dissemination of information without a payment and was rudely showed the door. I am in search of a fitness program to change my life but I can say with all honesty that, although results are documented, who wants to be belittled and pressure to try a program that may or may not work for them. I gladly left the premises and attended the orientation for a program called NuLife and was very pleased at the treatment I received and gladly payed the fee to begin. I have no doubt that I would have been successful at FitChallenge but at what cost. The NuLife staff made me feel comfortable investing in my future health goals. FitChallenge lost what could have been a dedicated client. Word of advise - Customer Service is KEY to a successful business. Gwen will lose more customers than she gains. She needs a makeover on a new attitude and needs to focus more on helping people than padding her pockets, her business is money driven not people driven. Pros: I was not allowed to make a decision Cons: Very Poor Customer Service more

Fit Challenge gets results....With no hand holding techniques 4/29/2008

I attended Fit Challenge in 2005 for 3 months. Within those 3 months I lost 24 pounds. Gwen's no nonsense helps you to be more accountable for your own actions. I knew that if I did not follow the diet and exercise I would not get the result I was looking for nor could I look to Gwen to pat me on my back and tell me it's ok. While you are in orientation they let you know exactly what you are in for, she pushes you to be the best you, you can be. I think within the last 20 years or so Americans have gotten so use to sugar coating that we have completely lost ourselves. I did not attend Fit Challenge for anything more than weight loss, I wasn't interested in knowing that the only reason my thighs were huge was because my aunt gave me too many pancakes when I was 3, Results was my goal. Period. Being committed, hard working and pushing towards your mark no matter what, at Fit Challenge...is the order of the day. Pros: You will lose Weight Cons: parking is tight more

Weight Loss at a Personal Cost 12/7/2006

I'm all for the bootcamp, no nonsense approach to losing weight. It has its value and can be very successful in motivating people to work hard. But the buck stops when the bootcamp style seeps over into the style of delivery for customer service. Imagine paying from $91 - $170+/month to work out in a small cramped storefront space for 45 minute sessions yet being publically berated over a microphone for merely asking a question - ""Will you stop interrupting me! Go get on a step!"" - and that was just when asking how to make a payment. The dusty walls, poor ventilation, mustiness, and decaying, molded ceiling tiles that never got fixed the summer I was there, were a recipe for respiratory disfunction. Arbitrary parking fees in excess of $55 are commonly imposed on members as well. The owner, aerobics instructor, payment processor and absolute tyrant is ever present and from her rule there is no recourse to reconcile any greviences customers may have - and due to fear of humiliation, pitiful few even dare ask. Serving a predominantly black, female population - Fitworks is a medieval manor, run by a sadistic, oppressive and money-driven steward who, in the absence of the feudal lord, treats most of her ""clients"" with the disdain of lowly serfs. Pros: You will lose weight - for a season Cons: mean-spirited owner and operator, inferior service, extreme rudeness more
