The Verdict
Fresh beef, exotic seafood, and traditional Greek specialties mix up the menu at this family-run establishment.
The Scene
Operated for over 20 years by the Shinas family, this restaurant offers both Greek and Continental favorites. Sirloin and filet mignon steaks are cut fresh and fish arrives daily, so be sure to ask about the specials. The Chariot sits on a lonely stretch of Route 20 past Crossgates Mall, but it's worth the trip.
The Food
Of course there's moussaka. And sweetbreads are a perennial item. But among the all-time favorites are the lamb preparations; roasted leg for those who want it well done, grilled loin if you like it cooked to order. The dolmadakia yalandtzi (grape leaves around rice seasoned with mint and dill) are excellent. Dinners come with soup or salad, but save room for galaktoboureko, a custard wrapped in phyllo pastry and soaked in honey.
