Edward James Salon- Aveda

Reception / front desk staff not very friendly older thin woman with blonde hair smoking outside. Not welcoming. Requested hair dye, wash, cut, blowdry. Advised could color, but would have to style own hair. Stated ""no appointment available."" Gave no further dates or times when would be able to have an appointment. Speaking to other office staff within same mall/building complex and they had complaints by their customers regarding staff at salon. Unfair price practices, cancelling appointment to fit in other known customers, etc. Would not recommend salon to anyone and would advise management to pay more attention to what is really going on in the front end and reevaluate the staff. They are definitely damaging business. Very unhappy. more

I went here on a whim when my usual stylist wasn't available and I really needed a haircut. I was the last appointment of the day, so that could have been a factor in my experience... though I don't think it should matter. I got my hair cut by Mauricio. He was very nice, and gave a great scalp massage to start things off. But there was a definite language barrier as I don't speak spanish. I had pictures, though, and that cleared things up a bit. My hair was in bad condition, but not so much that I needed a treatment or anything. Mauricio really did a lot of work on my hair (start to finish was about 1.5h), so I guess I was expecting an amazing finish but it really wasn't. He kept saying ""Look how healthy it is now! So soft"", but my hair is mostly always like that and ALWAYS is after a hair cut. I mean, if a stylist can't make it shiny and soft... who can? The length and shape looked good after he finished, but since then I've realized that the bangs are pretty much the same length and there's a weird length to the back so that when I put my hair up in a pony tail two tendrils are several inches longer than the rest. I didn't notice at first because he curled my hair (I was going out afterwards) before I left. I really believe Mauricio tried, but just didn't get it right. And because of the styling at the end I didn't see it in time to correct it. Also, my cut wasn't complicated - layers and bangs like Reese Witherspoon's hair for the ""In Bloom"" Avon fragrance campaign. Overall, it was cheaper than my usual place and easy to get an appointment. But I won't be going back. more

April really listened to what II wanted from my hair cut and delivered. I'm really happy with my hair and everyone says it looks great. I'll definitely use her again. Pros: Excellent cut for difficult hair more

I have been looking for a person who understands my hair. I have curly hair and it's a bit of a challenge sometimes. I found my match here at Edward James. Whether you know what you want or not, and you need someone with patience, I know I do, then go to Celeste. This girl is great. She's friendly and knows her stuff. I've seen her other work and it seems that she has a very wide range in what she can do. If you are looking for someone that understands curly hair, no matter what kind, or if you are just looking for someone who KNOWS what she's doing she's your go-to-gal. The place itself is great! I usually feel a bit uncomfortable in new places but I felt welcome and at home at Edward James. A must try! Pros: Relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, professional! I started to going to Edward James over 3 years, after a horrible hair cut and some hi-light disasters. Jim has given me the most amazing hairstyles ever! Nothing makes a woman feel prettier than getting random compliments from strangers. So when I was planning my wedding I knew that Jim was going to have to do my up-do. I came in with horrible highlights done at the ""Hair Butchery"" and Mauricio completely transformed by outdated look into a modern, younger-looking style. A definite place to go back to. I was petrified that my already damaged hair would break off when I went to get my hi-lights done, but Mauricio was very patient and professional. He was able to do them perfectly and without any more damage to my hair. Also, he got the color right on the target. He does a great hair dry too! Very happy and reasonable prices as well. I love this place! After frequenting several of Miami's snooty upscale salons and paying through the nose for the experience, I have come to call Edward James my home for exceptional haircare. Jim does a fabulous job on color and cut. His client consultations are thoughtful and thorough; he really listens to you and seeks to satisfy. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. No one seems uptight or snobbish. Definitely a salon worth patronizing! Pros: Excellent products used by skilled professionals yields beautiful results! I came in for an up do and walked out with my long hair,straight down with a few strands picked up in a rubber band. I could have done that myself in one minute. I was very specific about what I wanted, which was a simple bun. The hairstylist wasn't even happy with what she did and offered to put a flower in my hair. I was supposed to pay $50 and the receptionist, without me saying a word, reduced the price to $30. I came in with sufficient time (she played with my hair 2 hours) and left late to my makeup appointment very unhappy with the results. I came here because Aveda is a name I thought I could trust. Yesterday I went to this salon and got highlights and a haircut. WOW! What an experience! This morning, 3 women came up to me and actually touched my hair, and commented on how GREAT the cut and the color was! I smiled and said ""Thanks"". It was so APPARENT that they were going GA-GA over my hair! What a wonderful feeling. Then one of them noticed that my skin had this FRESH glow to it. Of course I did not share with her that I had an AVEDA Botanical Skin Resurfacing treatment, while my highlights were ""processing"". That would be telling secrets! Go there and get this treatment.
