Loved it! 6/15/2009

Dune Point is no longer owned by the Ice Palace. It has brand new owners that are genuinely interested in their guests. We had an oceanfront room that was recently renovated. It was very clean and had everything we needed. It is just a few steps from the ocean and our room had a semi-private deck overlooking the ocean. I would definitely recommend Dune Point. Pros: on the ocean, newly renovated Cons: missed the sun more

  • The Scene
Under the same management for more than 30 years, this hotel feels frozen in time, which suits the regulars who return year after year. Ocean waters here may be wilder than those in the island's opposite bay, but life on this side is calmer. This is arguably the most tranquil spot in Cherry Grove, filled with people who enjoy fume-free air, long beach walks and none of the frills or thrills of bayside accommodations.

    The Details
Do-it-yourself may not be the first thing that comes to mind for dining, given the array of restaurants on the island. But the kitchen apartments are designed so that you can make yourself at home. The same thinking supports the unfinished wooden decks, wood-paneled dining rooms and 1970s plaid sofas, all of which add up to an interesting, accidentally retro look.
