Took my child, who was starting to have respitory distress and a high fever, into the ER after a fever of 103 would not go down with meds. Spent entirely too long in waiting room to be seen, almost 5 hours. The waiting room was filthy. I've seen cleaner walmart bathrooms. Kids running around hacking and others who had nasty bleeding cuts all playing together for hours while they also waited. Patients waiting to be seen (4 hours later I learned why they would bring something to eat) would leave crumbs and trash on floor and seats when done. No hand sanitizer to be found. After finally being admitted it was close to 2 hours before we even were seen/checked on by anyone. The room we were put in was scuzzy. A ring of dirt surrounded room, gum stuck to the floor, sink handles scummy and grimy. No sheet,blanket or pillow on the bed(neither was one offered). I wasn't even sure if what was on it was a typical hospital bedsheet. No kleenex. My child was never hooked up to any sort of a monitor besides at triage. Sometimes her heartrate is in the 160s or higher if given albueterol. Finally a very nice nurse came in when she was taking over at shift change (thank god). She did take care of our needs as expected. When the dr finally arrived to check our child she readily diagnosed her with the flu without lifting a stethoscope and was backing out the door until I angrily made my case with iy being that my child has a background of asthma and reoccuring bronchitis and pnemonia if not treated quickly. This information had be relayed three times already at the front desk, triage and with the nurse who saw us initially. Reluctantly she checked her and decided to run a flu swab and an xray of her chest. Result, bronchitis not the flu so came the onslaught of meds which are normally dispensed to us when she's sick, finally. We're not from Texas, came for vacation, and I would have to say for supposedly a "top ranked national children's hospital" they have plently of room for improvement and cleaning.
