Surviving and Thriving! 8/26/2011

I honestly thought that going to a shelter with my kids was going to be a horrible experience. I was so blessed to find out I was wrong! I spent quite a bit of time at the YCC after I left my abusive ex-husband, and my life is truly better and greater for it. It was hard to change my ways and thinking a bit - to go from a woman who thought I could do nothing to KNOWING I could survive anything. One of the counselor told me it wasn't enough to survive, that I should thrive. I have!! I spent a month in the shelter and another 6 in the transitional program before I could get out on my own. The whole time I received counseling, classes in parenting and self-esteem, and my kids received self-esteem classes, too. The wonderful people there gave me the knowledge, strength, courage and belief in myself to move on to a great life! I now own my own home, am working full-time and attending college. My kids have the best grades and attitudes I've ever imagined. And - the best part - I'm so happy. I can't thank the good people at YCC enough. I don't know if I'd be alive today if it weren't for them. I hope they all know that there's one family out here that they truly helped. From the bottom of my heart, I thank them. more

Domestic Violence YCC-Crisis 3/31/2010

I work at YCC and I beleive that we can change and save lives when it comes to Domestic Violence. I have seen first hand the effect on families, especially the children. Management gives the employees support and the guidance that is needed to fullfill our mission. YCC offers valuable services to our community. In order to be an effective employee you must believe in our mission which is ""YCC provides comprehensive services to support and enchance the quality of life for all women, children and families"". Pros: Changing and Saving Lives more

good experience 3/30/2010

I also worked at YCC specifically with the domestic violence victims. I cannot begin to say the countless victims of domestic violence who have found safe haven under the shelter. YCC truly does change and save lives and many former clients will tell you that. There are always those (both staff and clients) who have had bad experiences and will want to tell everyone about it. That is unfortunate. Too many lives have been saved by this organization to see that happen. I am grateful for the opportunities this organization gave me to grow as a person and in my career. The Directors have inspired me to become better and I am so grateful for all of their support and feedback. I have never been happier in any other job. Keep up the good work!!! Pros: Lives are literally saved by this place more

Your Community Connection YCC Ogden Utah is TERRIBLE 10/10/2009

Your Community Connection ( YCC ) in Ogden Utah was not a good experience for me. The director and the assistant director are both very demeaning. They talk down to employees and embarrass them in large employee meetings. The board of directors has reportedly been made aware of this, but they refuse to take action. I am aware of several abuse clients that have been treated poorly or TURNED AWAY because of personality conflicts. I think it is sad. Your Community Connection in Ogden Utah could be a valuable place in the community, but I believe the management is killing it. Many people that work there, hate it. I feel sorry for poor clients. I heard on client state that she would rather go back to her relationship that to put up with the treatment she received at Your community Connection YCC Ogden. Sad Sad Sad Pros: Some people get help Cons: Management is terrible. Employees treated poorly. Bad place more
