Gift return with receipt will only get you a store credit 3/22/2012

I received a gift purchased at Dolfingers that I wanted to return. The person who gave me the gift was thoughtful enough to include the original receipt. When I tried to return the item I was told that I could either take a store credit or they would credit the gift giver's credit card (which would leave me with no benefit of the gift and be a bit embarrassing to the giver). Since most people do use credit cards for expensive items this is not a very friendly return policy. I can understand if one did not have an original receipt but that was not the case. I did not see or want anything else in the store so I kept the gift. I am very disappointed that a store such as Dolfingers would have such an uncompromising policy. I personally will never do business with them again. more

I haven't been treated so poorly since...?? 8/3/2010

First, Dolfinger's has a great selection of inventory. But that is about all that is great about the store. I registered there against the advice of many people, because I am stubborn, and here is my experience (its lengthy, so please bear with me...it's worth it for you if you are a bride). The sales people are rude (and I was the 3rd bride to register with them in my family), the china is marked up higher than other stores, and they gave me less credit that what I should have received. When I asked for a list of the credit I had, I expected a computer print out of some sort. What I received was a hand written list on legal paper where the math and items listed were wrong. Also, if you receive an actual present (instead of a card with the credit listed) they will not take it back if it is not something that the ""normally"" keep in stock. I tried and, not only did they not give me credit, but they still have the gifts that I returned. So they kept my gifts and credit.\r \r Also, the sales women did everything but come out and say ""you are difficult to work with and we dread settling your registry"" to ensure that I knew my place in the store. So you might ask ""Well, what did you do to offend them?"". And I would love to tell you that I did this: 1) I asked for a copy of my complete credit I had with them 2) I cross checked their math (which was wrong) and items listed (also wrong) to ensure their handwritten notes were correct and 3) I tried to reason with them to get the store's and my numbers to match before settling my registry...which they did not and I walked out of the store with a few hundred dollars less than what I think I should have had. Did they ever apologize or even act nice? No. All because I questioned the way they track bridal registries. I am sorry that I am not an idiot and can actually do math, which they apparently find offensive. When you register there, they act like they are doing you the favor. \r So if you must register there, either don’t care about getting the right amount of credit and let them rip off your friends who buy you gifts and get GREAT service. OR watch them closely and check all their numbers, but be prepared to receive the WORST customer service. FYI- I told the store that I would say this. I honestly thought it was only fair to let them know that I would not give them a good review and tried to do it in the nicest way possible (which was hard because I was holding back tears). But no worries, I kept it together and had a good long cry in the car as soon as I left. But I did write an apology note to the manager in case I came across rude by telling them that I was displeased with their services (yes, the customer had to apologize for standing up for herself). And I also work in customer service, so I know how hard it is to deal with people. I just hope this review will open the store's eyes, because they do have a great selection of inventory. But, until they do move into 2010 (meaning provide good customer service and a decent computer system for registries!) I implore you NOT to register there. Mercantile and Tradewinds are both great alternatives in town. There is also a Dolfinger's equivalent in Lexington (don't know the name) or Bromberg's in Birmingham, AL. With Bromberg's you can do everything over the phone or internet and they are amazing!!!!!! They have the same selection as Dolfinger’s. So go into Dolfinger’s, pick out what you like, and then register somewhere else for your own benefit. PS- people in Louisville will buy gifts from other places besides Dolfinger's.\r Pros: good selection of fine china Cons: horrible service and horrible to work with more
