Cannot believe this place is still OPEN!!! 10/20/2010

I only give this place one star because I had to... if there was an option for negative stars, it would more accurately reflect what is deserved. This school should be shut down! Did Marla Lloyd or her daughter write the review from ""wildmtnrose""? To the mom who has only had her child there for six months: you should REALLY look at what is going on in that school. Did you know the Brighton school had to be Hazmat cleaned because the last director smoked meth in the bathroom? Do you think Marla Lloyd informed any of the parents when this situation occurred? The answer is NO. Don't you think that is something a parent would like to know? I don't know if her son, CraigLloyd still works there, but did you know he is a convicted felon? That he is left alone with children and drives them in the filthy vans? Also, did you know they ""restrain"" children who are fidgety and won't sleep at nap time? I was told this by a former teacher and my own child. This school is nothing more than a glorified daycare at best. I don't even like to think about ""at worst"". They don't really follow any Montessori methods and the children are the ones who end up paying the price. This is the most parent-unfriendly place I have ever seen. Just wait until the Christmas party... you will see. Why is everything so secretive? Why aren't parents allowed to come by whenever they feel like it? As for the parent-teacher conference, that is a joke! Your child is never really ""assessed"" to determine any educational goals. Isn't that what pre-k is about? I don't know what it is like now that there are new employees working, but PLEASE take it from a mom who felt like an absolute failure upon finding out about all of the negative and dangerous situations my precious child had to endure. Just listen to your inner voice... I ignored mine for too long. But now that we are out of that crazy environment, and into a real Montessori school, I can look back and wish I had known sooner. All I can say is, if I had known then what I know now, I would NEVER have put my baby through the hell that is Discovery Montessori. more

I lend my full support!! 10/13/2010

While I do understand, parents being concerned, I have to wonder how much of this hype is an out of control old fashioned witch hunt... I say this only because my child has been in this school for over six months and we have never had any problems. He loves to go to school and his teachers Ms. Cole and Mrs. Ricardo have always been wonderful and and sweet and never once have they asked me or my family not to come in or be part of my son's experience. On the occasion that I've seen Mrs Marla Lloyd, she has always been gracious and kind with always something nice to say about my son's progress. He truly does thrive at this school. Do I keep my eyes and ears open for the possibility of a problem? Sure, but I would at any school. As far as the news report, it seems pretty one sided and I don't know of a single public school that allows for parents to come in and sit because it's disruptive!... That's why they allow for Parent Teacher conferences... maybe just a spoiled Mom not getting her way and causing a fuss. She even said she was disappointed when her child was expelled because he loved it there. I think they have a ton to offer and the children there seem very happy! more

Absolute Confidence 8/29/2010

We are strong supporters of the Montessori teaching method, and we feel that Marla Lloyd and the staff at this school do a wonderful job teaching in the Montessori style. Our child has grown immensely since starting him in this school. He comes home each day speaking French, naming the continents, taking about planets, and so much more. He is more artistic and genuinely interested in learning. He is more thoughtful, and all around a wonderful child. We are proud to say that our child attends Discovery Montessori. Marla Lloyd and the teachers have proven to our family that this school follows the highest standards in education while truly caring about the children that attend. more

Not a parent involved school 2/17/2010

If you are looking for a parent involved school, this is NOT the school for you. This school makes you feel uncomfortable when you try to speak to them about your child or their progress. We have had numerous situations with this school and our child. The straw that broke the camels back was when we found out the school was busing children to an affiliate school without most parent?s knowledge. When the school was questioned about it, they considered it a ""field trip"". You have to question some of the decision making skills here. Cons: Hardly any communication with parents more
