We were hungry and tired, and Dee Jay's fell into our traveling laps! My husband's strawberry daiquiri was what you hope they taste like in the menu picture. Most often, not. Deep berry flavor, lots of whipped cream and a drink umbrella with two cherries to boot! Nice start for him. We checked out the menu before being seated and decided to start with half an onion loaf and follow up with rib meals that include coleslaw or salad, potato skins and bread. I was overwhelmed with happiness. We only got to Dee Jay's because upon an old request of a friend from Weirton, we attempted to dine at Happy's: now closed. \r
Our salad and coleslaw arrived immediately after our orders were taken and were a nice cool way to get the meal rolling. The onion loaf arrived a few minutes later. It was cooked to perfection. Not greasy, stringy onion rings, but 1/2"" - 1"" tall slices piled upon one another. This was very tasty alongside the horseradish dip. \r
The dinners arrived quickly, but not while we were still eating the appetizer/salads. I greatly appreciate the few minutes between starters and entree. The ribs looked glorious, and we both picked the option to top the four potato skins with their version of toppings: finely crumbled bacon and cheese sauce on top, fresh chopped chives in sour cream on the side. Heavenly!!! I will never eat cheddar cheese on a potato skin again. This was just right! The ribs were ALL Meat. In my book that's 95% meat, 5% fat, and that's the most fat I ever expect to see in a restaurant, otherwise I'm not getting the meat I'm paying for. They were sticky with sauce, charred and crispy in the right places. Very Good Job!!!
Pros: Fantastic Food
Cons: Stale Iced Tea, Blah Bread and Vegetable Spread? C'mon, it's so good ~ do it all the way!
