I was having heel pain so I went to Columbia Foot Clinic for an appointment. Dr. Suber did an x-ray and told me I had a heel spur and that I had several options. First, I could live with the pain and wear cushioned shoes. Second, I could go to an orthopedist who would recommend surgery that was extremely invasive and painful. Third, I could have Dr. Payne do the surgery in his special, minimally invasive procedure. Number three sounded like the best one by far so I let him do surgery on me. The surgery itself was terrible. Apparently, my foot never lost feeling. Dr. Payne reinjected it six times, and I could still feel a pin stick. He went ahead and did the surgery anyway. I still have bad dreams about the pain, and anger that he and his nurse insisted it was all in my head. But the worst part is that after what Dr. Payne said was a successful recovery, my heel still hurt just as it had before. After months of limping, I went to the orthopedist that Dr. Payne had scared me away from. His first recommendation was for physical therapy to stretch my tendon. I went for therapy and after three months (it would have been shorter if I hadn't had the surgery), I was pain free and have remained so for several years. My advice is avoid Drs. Suber and Payne. They are surgery happy and their ""special procedure"" wasn't so special after all.
Pros: Had a good reputation at one time.
Cons: Apparently out of touch with new procedures.
