Oh please whatever...everyone understands business but distort what was said if you want. Making a profit is one thing, greed is certainly another. Some people do have a brain and eventually tap into their ability to add and subtract. Since Michelle is so business proper, why doesn't she claim all the thousands and thousands of dollars for privates she makes? You know, that money that's paid to her in cash and just a guess, but not reported anywhere? Add up the soloists and duet/trios times hundreds each, and don't forget those studio fees for privates too, cash of course. I don't know about you, but if I worked those hours and in those large quantities, I would be required to state it as income. How about those studio incentives from Competitions? The ones that offer it do so with 5-10 percent back. Now who paid the fees to begin with? Oh that's right, the parents. So stop with the poor Michelle. From where I see it, profit, not the love of dance, is the main objective. I don't think anyone would even mind so much if their kid was treated kindly and minimally taught. When you go into a profession concerning kids, it is a given that it should be at least a fraction about kids. In MY experience, I have not seen this from Michelle. I have witnessed as has been discribed with the outbursts, tantrums and etc. all while sticking her hand out for more green. Oh, and as far as shoving her jimmy choo's up someone and ""hunting"" us all down...1. She better hang on to her shoes because there may be less of them in the future when her enrollment dwindles as people eventually see it all for themselves and 2. she already knows each person. They are most of the faces she overlooks daily and every other person she has either wronged personally or worse, their children. Michelle is no victim, it is just finally catching up with her. What was it they say about karma?? She should clean up her act and learn what is proper when teaching children. Pros: zero Cons: countless more

I can't stand to hear anymore Michelle bashing. Come on people wake up. All the complaints about Michelle making money off of her studio. Of course she is going to make money. That is her career, what puts a roof over her head and food on the table. Ask yourselves how many of you would go to work all week and not bring home a paycheck?? In an unrealistic world it would be great to be independently wealthy enough to be able not have to rely on a paycheck but lets face facts none of us are Paris Hilton. Dance is a luxury that not everyone can afford but thats the way life works. It's not like the expense is exclusive to Starz or comes as any surprise. Hello people EVERY studio charges and makes money. They wouldn't be open if they weren't making money. Starz is more than fair about giving ample time to pay and breaking things down into payments not to mention that every year many scholarships are awarded as well. Michelle consistantly grooms excellent dancers. Not everyone is Broadway or LA bound geez they do it because they love dancing. I hope Michelle finds out who each and everyone of you are who are bashing her and hunts you down and shoves her Jimmy Choo's right up your...Thank you Michelle for always giving 100% to our dancers! more

This blog will not let me wite the turth about Miss Colon so i will keep it short. I have a daughter that stays with her mom and started in the starzs about two months. I drope her off on my visitation weekends to priactice on Fridays, Satrudays and sundays. I went to her and let her know that I was my daughters dad and she was very hostile to me. She didn't want me there ro see her practice or performed in her compititions. I had to pull my daughter out of Starzs on my visitaiton weekends because I don't want my daughter under her dirrection. She is going as far as turning my daughter against me. As a director that deals with kids you should be bias to both parents because both parents have the same rights and the kids love both of their parents. I have two nieces that dance also and they told me that this school was not good for my daughter and that I should take her out of Starzs. Her mom signed her up so I can not take her out, but I can find somewhere els to take her on my visitation week-ends. one of my nice dance for the Orlando Magic and the other is still in high school. Unfortunately, I have a very close connection with a staff member at this 'Studio' I am amazed and appalled that Michelle Colon still has any students left - I have both seen first hand and heard about the most awful and immature actions of this woman. Staff, company members, company parents and her own family (yes her own family) are treated like something she stepped on with her Jimmy Choo (courtesey of Rizing Starz parents) shoe. Michelle Colon is an amazing actress- seems so sweet and innocent while telling you your child shows great potential....DON'T BE FOOLED. Behind the facade painted on with Mac Cosmetics, Michelle is nothing but a sad, pathetic, lonely, immature child with a severe Napoleon complex. It disgusts me the way her staff members are treated, all for insultingly low compensation...often working unheard of and pointless long hours with no overtime pay- all at the expense of their families. Michelle is laughing all the way to the bank while many are further damaging their relationships with partners and children alike for this woman. Company parents are handing over their hard earned money for an array of severley marked-up 'neccessities' and forced to travel to obscure locations and competitions so they are guaranteed a win. We really should take our hats off to this kid,people are forking over money left and right (no questions asked- sometimes must be cash only- I wonder why?!) paying for her trips to New York to buy fabric (what on earth?!?) Please be aware, you are being ripped off, your child will never be anything coming from this place...look where all her old students are now-Broadway? Nope, either pursuing other fields or actually teaching for this woman and wasting any chance they may have actually had. The absolute worst dance experience ever!!! Outrageously high prices on costumes, tuition, recital fees, choreography fees, material fees for costumes, my GOSH you name it and you are paying way too much for it. It's absurd and ridiculous!!! She actually charged for the Christmas show this year..It used to be a show where the parents could come and see what their children have learned halfway through the year. Now the parents are being charged $5.00 admission to see what their children havn't learned. WHAT A SCAM!!!The worst customer service I've ever seen, very disorganized staff, the owner Michelle Colon has horrible mood swings she is very rude to the dancers and their parents.Very immature and acts in an unprofessional manner. Extreme Childlike behavior.. She reminded me of Veruka(spelling??) from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...If your child loves to dance don't go to Starz. Believe me there are better dance studios out there, 1000 times better in all areas of dance!!! I also was a member of starz who is now in a mature place in my life. As an adult now looking back, it is easy to comprehend how destructive this studio could have been had I stayed. Correction from a teacher is one thing, and that is always expected, but humiliation and degrading remarks are entirely different. I witnessed this towards fellow students and parents continually dished out in the most immature ways you could think of. A true teacher, works to the benefit of ALL students and believes in the potential of ALL who dedicate their time to attending class. A true teacher does this with patience, experience and professionalism, not through intimidation, temper tantrums and rivalry. Class was routinely centered around the ""lucky"" chosen few favorites, which left most trying in vain for even one positive remark or acknowledgment they were in class. I resented the bashing of other studios, (my extended family attended some) and the feeling of being required to share in those biased beliefs. I stood horrified many times as I witnessed lashing out at parents (mine included), who questioned even the smallest thing, or didn't follow michelle's demands blindly. Gossip was rampant and hurtful between every age, adult and child, which thankfully, good parents kept in perspective for me and eventually removed me from this environment. It was not until I ended up at another studio, that I learned dance is a simple process. You should expect to be appreciated and taught regardless of a teacher's personal feelings, and your parents, other adults and other studios should be respected. Everything else has been covered here, and I agree concerning competitions and etc., I will end with saying that I have continued dancing with the training and CONFIDENCE I received elsewhere. When I saw this website, I couldn't believe everything that was being said on here. I danced at Starz and was in the company since it opened until I graduated high school. I met some of my best friends there who I am still friends with today... 4 years later. Starz was my second home and even though I am in college now, I still miss the studio and the people there every single day. I learned SO much during my time there. Not only did I become the best dancer that I was capable of being, but I learned a lot about life and about myself. If it weren't for Starz and Michelle, I would not be the person I am today.. and if you ask me, I think I am a pretty awesome person. I would not trade my experience at the studio for the world. Michelle is hard on dancers sometimes, but how do you expect to get any better if she doesn't correct you? She is an extremely talented choreographer/dancer/business woman and if I had to deal with all the BS she deals with I'd probably be a little crazy too. As for the drama... hello what do you expect when you put that many people, most of them being female, together for long periods of time? And if you think other studios don't experience just as much drama, then you're crazy. Lastly, Brittany and Kelly are amazing and WILL be professionals one day... so get over it.... more

Avoid Starz Studios. Don't expose your child and yourself to unprofessional and childish behavior from the studio owner who is manipulative and self-absorbed. Also, it is very expensive. Your families time and money would be better spent elsewhere. more

It was definitely NOT a good experience. Unfortunately, I CANNOT, in all my conscious, recommend this studio to parents. I was humiliated in several occasions by the owner, Ms. Michelle Colon, and saw other parents being humiliated as well, leaving from Starz studio in tears. The owner delivered irrational anger to the parent even in the present of children, and would follow the parent (or sent a relative or staff member) outside the studio to threaten them more. It's a misfortune because she seems very nice and sweet. Hope she could change her manners and attitude before others get hurt. God grant her the peace she is missing and need so she could contribute to the peace of the parents and their children, as well as, of her surroundings. I am an ex starz member and all the negative things written on here and MUCH MUCH MORE happened to me and more others than I could keep track of. The things that went on there were so stupid and ridiculous. I am not even going to waste my time telling the same stories that the lucky people who left have told. But I will tell you that it sure looks to me like that saint of all saints and highly qualified (NOT) teacher Michelle got a couple of students to do some PR for her. (probably a ""free"" solo again or some other promise of something that won't happen). Here's my experience: Unfriendly and sometimes rude staff, teachers with little knowledge or time for you (unless you are michelle's favorite or have money), terrible competitions competing mostly against ourselves to make it ""appear"" that starz is successful, high priced EVERYTHING and people pretending to like eachother and be such a ""family"" and talking behind everyone's back. Debate it all you want but that was MY EXPERIENCE and I'm glad I left and am finally learning how to dance. Pros: none none none none Cons: you name it or think it and they have it more

okay i know people can have their oppinion on here but i would like to tell u mine. i have been dancing at starz for 9 years now since it opened and i've been with Michelle Colon for 11 years now and she is amazing. Michelle is my idol cause when i get older i want to own my own studio like her. the staff at starz are amazing, their friendly and they know most of their custumers by names and who teaches them. if u have a question for them they can answer it for u. the teacher know how to teach i know because i have assisted most of them at one time or another. i luv being in that studio and it is like my second home and its somewhere where i can feel safe. i am in the company and have been there for 8 years now and they r like my second family too. i luv them and Mihelle. so u guys can have ur oppinions and i have mine. and mine is that it is the best studio in florida. more

I've been dancing at Starz for quite a while now and i love it here! Its my home. I dont know what people are saying when the say that your there way to much and it taking over your life, WELL HELLO if you REALLY love dance you wouldnt mind being there and dancing so much and anyway you arent there that much. My dance schelule is perfect im there 5 days a week after school and 3 classes on wednesday, thats like perfect for me. And anyways the classes are SO MUCH FUN and the teachers teach so much (wich is the whole reason why you are there is to learn). I love Mrs. Michelle she is very nice, she is also is very strict which is a good thing. The teachers are very good at teaching, they are nice, understanding and teach kids Disiplene. And mostly all the other dancers at the studio are extremly nice. The only thing i dont really like is how much it costs EXSPECALLY company. But its deffinetly worth it! \r \r I think any moms looking for a dance studio for there kids to go to should deffinently join the starz family =].\r \r One more thing, if you are thinking about joining company at starz YOU SHOULD DEFFINENTLY HAE TO EXTREMLY BE PASSIONTE ABOUT DANCE, because you WILL be at the studio dancing all the time. When I began starz never having dance training before i didnt really know what to except but as the year went by i fell in love with the people, both staff and dancers, and most importantly is that i began to fall in love with dance and became very passionate. The years went by and i excelled and improved and just totally fell in love with dance and the art of it. I danced at starz for a short time but all i can say is it was the most AMAZING life changing experience ever and i give all the credit to becoming and maturing both as a dancer and a person to Michelle Colon and the starz staff. As of now I am trying to come back to starz where it is my true home and where i want to be. Yes there is no doubt starz has its drama but lets be real, what studio doesnt? It's a world of almost all girls there is bound to be drama. To tell everyone the total truth i absolutely love dance and want to dance for the rest of my life because of starz studios and the amazing teachers and director. Everyone has their own opinion and mine is that starz is an amazing place for your child, either male or female, to form a love for dance. I miss every single person there and I hope to be home soon! WaWaWa...Nobody cares about any of you starz people. How stupid someone would be to want to go to any business that has all this kind of BS going on. Everyone knows that starz is the biggest joke in town and this site only proves it over and over again. Oh, and the chances of making it to a professional level...slim to none FYI and considering the limitations at starzs in instruction...even slimmer. I am soooo glad I stopped listening to all the garbage and promises that went unfullfilled at this studio and found one that really teaches technique mixed with real choreography. I'm not on here to talk about Starz at all. I am here because it makes me very sad that someone would go to the point of naming names, mine being one of them (Kelly McGuire). Whoever wrote should feel sorry. I have every intention of becoming a professional dancer. You saying that I nor anyone will, was wrong. I will make it, and that will be because of myself and myself only. It has nothing to do with who taught me, because I am my own person and I have all the drive in the world. I'm not being cocky.
