Great Hotel, even Better restaurant 7/9/2002

If you look for ambiance, service, and an incredible restaurant in one, this place isfor the truly fortunate culinaires and fine hotel afficianados, but without the extreme costs. In Colorado Springs, I've stayed at the Broadmoor, only to be disappointed in the place except for the beautiful grounds. This unique hotel, has "celebrity suites" at the same cost of my one step above minimum room was at the Broadmoor. (They even have heated toilet seats) The food is head and tales better than anything I've had in Colorado, and really competes on a National scale as a great restaurant. The wine list took me 15 minutes to review and I was in heaven at the options, from small California limited availability wines to wonderful old French bottles. Next time I'm willing to pay the price for luxury, I'll skip the big name hotel, and travel to the quaint Cliff House. Pros: Restaurant, Ambience, Reasonable for luxury Cons: Neighborhood, Travel off campus more

  • The Scene
Built as a stagecoach stop in the 1850s, this hotel went through many transformations when the town became renowned as a mineral springs destination spa. The current hotel (which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places) was refurbished in the late 1990s, preserving the Victorian architecture while adding state-of-the-art technology.

    The Details
The 17 studios and 38 suites have all the basics, including cable TV, VCRs, coffee makers and hair dryers. They also come with personalized perks such as luxe terry-lined silk robes. As for indulgences, check out the gas fireplaces, heated toilet seats and steam- and body-spray showers. Most accommodations feature mountain views. All are non-smoking. The guest rooms, dining room, reading room and veranda are equipped with data ports and DSL Internet connections. There isn't a business center onsite, but the front desk has a high-speed printer and copy and fax machines. The hotel boasts an award-winning dining room. For a romantic dinner, reserve a table in the secluded alcove by the fireplace.
