Best ""Q"" in Texas 7/14/2010

Four of us had lunch at the City Market on Monday, July 12. Been there many times before but it seems to just get better each visit. Outstanding Ribs, sausage and brisket. The potato salad and Big Red's were good too. Acutally, it is probably a good thing that it is 150 miles from our home in Houston or we'd bee there too often. Pros: The Entire Menu Cons: Long drive from Houston more

I buy a gallon of the sauce for home 12/12/2005

I have been eating at City Market for 22 years (since 83) and it is STILL worth the 100 mile round trip!!!! You buy the brisket, sausage and ribs by weight and it's served on brown butcher paper with SOFT white bread &/or crackers. Get a pickle out of the jar, gotta get an onion slice (to put in the beans--with some BBQ sauce) My norm is 2 slices, 4 small ribs (I like the ends---you can request the big ribs if you want) and 1 dry sausage (just cooked a little more and maybe not as greasy!) YUM! YUM! Cold beer Pros: good eats, the BBQ sauce, good eats Cons: 50 miles away, not open on Sun, not open late more

Amazing 7/13/2004

I had heard about this place for a long time from my father-in-law who grew up in Luling. Once I finally got to try, I was ready to move the area just to have this barbeque more often. I live in KS and try to get there as much as possible. This is truly the best flavored barbeque, with the most amazing ""secret recipe"" barbeque sauce. It is a sauce that goes best with their barbeque. The restaurant is what makes the dining experience the best. Butcher paper and no forks makes the food that much sweeter. A true experience. It was for getting full, I would make a whole day experience. Pros: Great location, Amazing Food, Good Parking more

Heaven must be like this 11/10/2002

An amazing culinary experience-and a must for any lover of barbecue. My friend consumed-inhaled-a pound of ribs in minutes. Normally he eats like a bird. I had a pound of beef brisket, which I made into ""sandwiches"" with the ultra-fresh white bread meant to buffer delicate stomachs (I guess). What to expect: Fast delivery; total quality and an outstanding sauce. What not to expect: waitresses; finger bowls and/or fine china. There aren't any. You use your fingers and eat from salmon colored sheets of butcher paper. This is hard core barbecue. If you aren't a meat eater, forget it. Pros: food more

Top of the Central Texas BBQ 10/11/2002

This is one of the top Central Texas BBQs, if not the best for value. Note, I said ""BBQs"" and not ""restaraunt."" Do not expect salads, a fine selection of wines, or attentive service. It is what it is, a meat-eating experience set in a working-man's town. Given its context, it is a part of rural Texas and truly authentic. Definitely worth a trip to see. more
