Asbury Park desperately needed a place to get a bite to eat at night. Chat & Nibble fills that void and also does nicely during the daylight hours as well.
If you stop in late on Friday or Saturday, your server will probably be Alex, who is as nice as pie and will remember you when you come back. Owner, Mary is also usually on hand and stops to chat with diners at their tables. Ater tasting the menu options on multiple trips, I can recommend the Happy Burger which is topped with a zippy horseradish chees and the best garlic fries. The turkey meatloaf is also great. More in the mood for breakfast? I love that you can get potatoes or grits with your eggs and carnivores can choose from bacon varieties ranging from pork, beef, Canadian, Irish. Weekend only brunch dishes are worth stopping in for. Try the Eggs Florentine, Hawaiian french toast coated in coconut or my favorite fish and grits. Wash it all down with a house brewed ice tea in peach, rasberry or hangover flavors. You better save room for dessert because up at the counter, a selection of cakes made by the burly house security guard or homey and satisfying.
Choose to sit in the cheerfully decorated restaurant or al fresco, weather permitting.
