Wonderful camp 1/23/2012

Our son went for the fist time last year when he was 13. He is very delayed, non-verbal and it was his first extended time away from us. The staff was amazing, and any worries we had about him were erased when we dropped him off and saw the level of competence of everyone there. We are planning on sending him back again this year, we only wish it could be for longer as he is in school for most of the summer and can only attend camp for the last session. more

Heaven for us and heaven for our daughter 12/28/2011

Last summer was the first time our daughter went to camp. We were all nervous. She loved camp so much and is going back this summer for a month! She made a friend! The staff is so kind caring....nurses are very good....administration..great...... My husband and I know that she is well taken care of and very safe. more

You found the perfect camp to let your ""special"" child feel special and respected. Camp Huntington has become my son's summer home away from home. \r It was difficult to let him go but as soon as we felt the warmth from the staff there we knew we made the right choice. more

If Nic's happy, we're happy 12/27/2011

My 13 year old son will return to Camp Huntington for his fourth summer in 2012 . He absolutely loves the experience, the place and the people, and he gets an experience of independence and self-reliance that only this type of experience can provide. We feel secure in knowing that he is accepted, loved and challenged at Camp Huntington. more

Camp Huntington_C.Jacobson 12/15/2011

My daughter is a mentally challenged 38 year old woman. She has been a camper at Camp Huntington more than 20 years. She started attending Camp Huntington when she was 12 years old. We had tried another camp for 2 years before we found Camp Huntington. The difference in camps had nothing to do with the physical appearance. The difference was in the entire camp philosophy.\r \r At Camp Huntington, my daughter was never treated as a handicapped person. She was recognized as a person that had some different needs. She would return to us at the end of a summer having grown tremendously. Each summer she would gain socialization skills, verbal skills, develop inter-personal skills, as well as activity of daily living skills. She learned how to take part in group activities and after many years finally had the courage to go on stage and take part in a camp play. The smile on her face was our reward for having sent her to Camp Huntington.\r \r She has never really fit into the real world, but Camp Huntington was and is the one place where she is completely accepted for herself. Over the years I have recommended the camp to many parents of children with special needs. It is a very special place, for people with special needs.\r more

Fantastic Special Needs Camp 11/30/2011

The bottom line is that the day he came home from camp my DD son asked me over a dozen times when he could go back and could he stay longer next time.\r \r We dropped him off three weeks earlier in what I called "" a leap of faith"" as we lived too far away to visit the facility prior to signing him up. I was impressed with the overall organization of the check in - yes an organized summer camp. Everything they needed to take excellent care of my special needs kid was on file and ready to be accessed by the counselors which included his IEP. The counselors were also impressive. They'd read his file and were receptive to my suggestions and instructions. I thought the facility itself was also nice. It was clean, bright and welcoming. The first night we got a reassuring phone call and half way through his session an email with a link to snapfish and over 30 pictures of him---having a good time.\r \r Yes, he's gonig back next summer....and staying longer ! more
