I have read reviews that describe this restaurant as "tiny". By American standards, it is, in fact, on the small side. But if it were any larger, it wouldn't feel as authentic.\r \r I went to Cafe Pastis for my birthday, so I was able to sample many of the dishes. The steamed mussels were delicious, if a tiny bit overdone for my taste (I'm sure the chef would adjust the cooking time upon request). The fries served alongside were perfect. I highly recommend the roasted lamb with baked lentils. The meat could be cut with a spoon, and the lentils tasted like they had been made a few days earlier. \r For dessert, the tarte tatin's deeply caramelized apples melted in my mouth, and the creme brulee was perfection. And this after having had awesome creme brulee at Pacific Time last week. This was better, the custard was cold and had an intense vanilla flavor, and the crust was generous and golden-brown.\r \r The chef, who cooks up his creations in plain sight of the clientele, is always eager to lean over the bar and have a conversation, and he let me stumble over my French and didn't switch to English.\r \r When we left, a table full of French people were the only customers left. If it weren't for the fact this restaurant is in a strip mall, I really would think I was in France.\r \r My only regret? That none of the dishes on the menu actually contain Pastis. more

Better French Food in a Mall Food Court 5/30/2008

I have eatent at several french restaurants in the Miami/Coral Gables area, and this by far was the worst. I ordered the scallopes, and they over cooked and bland. My wife had the grouper and it was under cooked. The service was non-existent, and because they do not close the door, and the kitchen almost shares your table, it was extremly hot. If you want good French food, try Boucheron in Coconut Grove. Much better. Pros: The bread is good. Cons: Parking, price, food, service, temperture, size. more

Poor service, decent food 2/4/2007

If you are willing to keep up with rude waiters, this French restaurant has good food. It is quite small and cramped. We had to wait after making a reservation in advance. I left the restaurant thinking of the stereotype of the arrogant Paris people, such poor customer service. Pros: Great food and French ambiance Cons: Service more

Very rude 1/17/2007

My husband and I attempted to go to Cafe Pastis on a Thursday night at 9:40 pm. The told us they were closed. We said that we thought that they didn't close until 11 p.m. The manager said that that was only on weekends. We saw the hours sign on the outside and it said that they didn't close until 10 p.m. How rude! more

Great food and ambiance (casual but classy), love the outdoor tables. Fridays or Saturdays always full, make reservations. Pros: Food Cons: Limited Space, might feel crowded inside more

so great! 11/9/2005

The food here is so fantastic! Reminds me of eating in one the many side bistros in Paris. You get everything, great food, amazing service and just a casual relax atmosphere that you can't beat... Pros: terrific sandwiches, best french fries Cons: usually full more

Amazing 6/6/2004

If you are looking for a warm, inviting restaurant, Cafe Pastis is your place. I have never felt so at ease and content at a restaurant. The most amazing thing about Pastis, besides the fabulous food, is the staff. They are the most endearing and genuinely inviting individuals that I have ever met. No wonder Pastis is always full, people cant seem to get enough! Pros: Food delicious, Best Staff ever more
