The portion size of entrees is ridiculous. $11.95 for a catfish platter with few pieces and about a tablespoon of sides. Definitely not worth the money. Same for the brisket ""platter"" for $13.95! Save your money! And out of french fries? A staple side for their entrees?!? Lame! Won't be going there again.. more

APPALLING!!!!!!! 12/18/2011

I'VE BEEN HERE MANY TIMES SINCE IT OPENED AND IT'S GONE FROM GOOD TO REVOLTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TONIGHT'S EXPERIENCE WAS THE WORST IN ALL MY YEARS OF DINING/EATING IN NEW ORLEANS. The service was bad from the minute we walked in . The rude ""French"" waitress is an insult to an entire country, quite an accomplishment given THEIR reputation. Mademoiselle, was lazy, slow, got everything wrong, condescending and those were her virtues. We waited one hour for sandwiches which arrived in the form of a scorched dry cold burger, greasy burned, soggy fries and a ""pork"" sandwich that would make ROADKILL look like haute cuisine in ""Frenchies's"" Paree. But that was fine compared to snarky, smarmy smug lack of service by the wait staff. QUELLE HORREUR!!!!! RUN AND NEVER LOOK BACK P.S. This is Tthe first time I ever bothered to review any establishment. Don't we all just expect at least something even from a cheap dive..Go to the cheap dive instead. We five all walked out with the food on the table and didn't pay. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.. more

WORST BBQ I'VE EVER HAD 11/14/2010

Guys...i NEVER take the time to review or rate a restaurant, but i thought it was my duty to let you know that the pulled pork sandwiches were un-edible...not just not the greatest i've had, but truly un-edible! The pork tasted like potted meat with a load of liquid smoke thrown in. If it actually came off of the pit, it hadn't been there for at least 2 days! TERRIBLE! My fiance and i each had 3 bites - just to be sure (we each had our own), and threw the rest in the garbage. Our bodies just rejected them. On top of that - we each got a side, but the french fries were not cooked all the way and dripping in grease. You know how fun it is when your whole order of fries is ruined because someone didn't take the extra minute to cook them long enough! Anyway, for 2 pork sandwiches - which were also very light on the pork and sauce...VERY...and 1 side a piece - it cost 20 plus the tip. DON'T WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!!!! more

Fun Space and Good Food 9/22/2010

I am no a local and only come to the city once a year. I was introduced to the Bywater by a local and every year when I visit I eat at the Bywater. The outdoor space is great for an afternoon lunch with a cocktail it is also great on those warm sultry evenings. The back bar is fun and breakfast is cheap and a cut above the rest. more

Bywater BBQ is a Local Treasure!!!!! 5/24/2010

I recently had the pleasure of dinning at Bywater Restaurant/BBQ/Deli/Pizza. That's right they have it it all and its worth the trip, especially for the new back court yard that's beautiful. The Bywater Chicken sandwich was so good i had to go back and try the pizza and burgers on a later date and my only regret was that i waited as long as i did. This really is the best pizza in town, hands down. That being said the BBQ (all of it) was original, tender and tangy!!! The longer you wait,,,, the more you miss out,,, go get some and be happy;-) Pros: Patio, Pizza, Burgers, BEST BBQ IN TOWN! & Secret Garden Cons: The menu is so big with so many choices that its not easy!! more

Ive have been dining here for 12 years, the food is phenominal .we go at least twice a week (sunday brunch my favorite) everyone there is so nice, ive got to know the owner Mike, he,s a very nice man, he creates most of the items on the menu, and i havent found one I don't like. you must try at least once and believe me you will be back. I also want to add that the prices are fair and the portions are big. Pros: two beautiful patios Cons: closed on wednesdays more

This place is the bomb 12/15/2008

Excellent food and wonderful staff make this joint a must. The Voodoo Chicken sandwich was to die for, as was the Rachael and the bread pudding. The servers are very attentive and witty, making every visit a joyous one. Pros: sandwiches, service, atmosphere Cons: closed on Wednesdays more

Meatloaf Thursdays are a MUST 7/1/2008

I've eaten here many times, I've enjoyed almost every meal. My favorite is the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans, followed very closely by the white beans on Mondays, the best and seasoned to New Orleanians taste. The wait staff are accomodating, and the management always courteous and friendly. It has a very warm and relaxing atmosphere for lunch, dinner, or drinks on the patio. Pros: Home Cooking and friendly service Cons: charbroiling not too appetizing more

Change the name to Bywater Cafe 5/12/2008

I have eaten here a few times and can tell you that their food is good!.. except for the BBQ part. They should really scrap the bbq idea and just focus on what they're good at... which is everything else. Great breakfasts and salads Pros: Good food, good location Cons: Bad BBQ, sassy staff more

DON'T ORDER THE RIBS 11/2/2007

I wish that I had read the last review before walking across town to experience this bbq joint. Big disappointment. It was confirmed that they served smoked bbq by the server when in fact it was ovenbaked and burnt on the grill, then brushed with spiced ketchup. Some pluses however were the soup de jour (cream of potato) and the crispy side salad. Some other negatives were the main entree and the sides : bbq ribs, mac and phony cheese, the greens, and the very bland potato salad. Steer clear bbq lovers! Pros: Soup of the day (cream of potato) Cons: All things bbq more

Bywater BBQ 6/10/2004

Not real BBQ, oven roasted. The only flavor comes from a very mediocre sauce that they drown the meat in. The beans were poured directly from a can and cold, and the potato salad lacked any seasoning whatsoever. Overall a very lackluster attempt at BBQ, try VooDoo it's a chain but better. I really feel badly recommending that, I usually support local biz fiercely, but I feel that my $17 was wasted on this meal. Pros: pleasently punk, cool building, decent service for NO Cons: , food, food more

Off the beaten path 6/10/2002

Locals only please, and if you actually make it down there, youll see why. Quite a hop skip and a jump from the tourist zone, this eatery specializes in BBQ specials that will have you fantasizing about your meal for months to come. Have a glass of champagne, order the special, kick back and enjoy. Check out the back patio for quintessential courtyard seating. Pros: Pulled pork Cons: service more
