Beautiful venue, helpful people. A must see! 12/9/2011

I just want to say how please my husband and I are for choosing the Braselton-Stover House for our wedding and reception. Mary and Marvin went above and beyond to help us with everything. The wedding was absolutely beautiful. Not only is the place gorgeous, Mary is so helpful with the planning. You pay for a venue, but you get Mary to help you with the planning. She has been in the business for a long time, and knows the best way to get things done, and if you have a budget to work with, she can also help with this. It may not always be what you want to hear, but that is part of planning a wedding. Dont expect her to do everything, that is your job, since it is your wedding. I had everything i wanted decoration wise, and gave it to her at the rehearsal. She had everything arranged perfectly. The place is a little pricey for just a venue (I also rented linens from them), but you save a TON of money by the ability to choose your own caterers, cake, florist, and mostly BYOB! You will not be disappointed. I had my out-of-town guests stay at Chateau Elon and used Georgia Trolley Services for transportation. It was just a memorable day, and all my guests cant stop talking about what an amazing wedding and party we had. Thank you Mary and Marvin! more

Beware of Mary! 9/27/2011

My husband and I recently had our wedding here. The venue is absolutely beautiful. We had read other reviews before deciding to go with this place and many of them stated that Mary Stover (the owner) was very abrasive and bossy. We had met with her already and didn't get that impression from her, so we went a head and booked our wedding. Mary was great and very helpful right up until our actual wedding day. I explained to her numerous times exactly how I wanted things to be set up and how I wanted the order of events to flow. She wrote down everything I said and gave her advise, but made it seem like she would make things happen just as I wanted them to. We even met with her the day before our wedding to finalize our plans and it all seemed great. The day of our wedding, however, her true colors showed! She was horrible!! Almost EVERYTHING I told her I wanted, she disregarded and did things her way! She was incredibly abrasive! For example, I told Mary I wanted the bridal party to enter the reception, then go sit down. She suggested having everyone gather around the dance floor instead. I told her that's not what I wanted. As we were all lining up to enter the reception, she was barking orders to the bridal party about how they needed to walk in and stand around the dance floor. My husband got so upset (we had had enough of her by this time), he yelled her name and told her that she knew that not what we had discussed. He then told everyone what they were to do. I gave the dj a printed schedule of how everything was to flow, with times and everything. Mary made sure to inform him how she wanted things to flow and when we noticed that the dj wasn't sticking to our schedule, I had to go to him in the middle of my reception and tell him to ignore anything Mary said to him and that I wanted him to stick to what I told him! She's not pleasant to work with at all! She was literally pushing everyone out the door an HOUR before we had to leave because she wanted to get ready for the next wedding! She also slammed us at the end of the wedding with an outrageous bill for rented linens, which was never clearly stated to us. If you choose to battle with Mary, buy your own table cloths...it's SOOOO much cheaper!! I loved the venue itself, but Mary caused A LOT of unnecessary stress for everyone involved! more

You will not be disappointed .... 6/16/2011

I had attended two weddings at the Braselton Stover House and even though the weddings were completely different, both were absolutely perfect. When my daughter became engaged, we knew we wanted to use the Braselton Stover House for our wedding venue. I am so glad that we did! Mary Stover worked with my daughter and me and helped us with every little detail. Mary was wonderful and she was like having our own private wedding planner. The wedding was awesome and Mary's hard work was a major reason why the event went so smoothly. Our friends and family are still talking about how wonderful the wedding was. You will not be disappointed if you use the Braselton Stover House for your next event! more

A Venue to Remember... 6/16/2011

We can't even begin to say enough about Mary and Marvin Stover! They were beyond wonderful to work with, and they did many things to help make our day so very special! Mary personally worked with us on countless occasions, ironing out all kinds of details (major and minor) to make our day exactly like we hoped it would be! She even stepped in to save the day, with a mistake that I had made, and she solved the problem so seamlessly, that nobody even noticed! She personally went over each and every step of the wedding with us at the rehearsal, and walked us through it all on our Wedding Day, making it both memorable and perfect! The Braselton-Stover House is beautiful, and a wonderful venue for an outdoor or indoor wedding, and it is also perfect for the reception as well. The Banquet Hall had room for all of our guests to sit down comfortably for dinner, a perfect set-up for a buffet, and a great place for the DJ to set-up his station near the dance floor. Our guests have continued to talk about the wonderful time they had at the wedding and Mary and Marvin played a major role in helping to make our day as AMAZING as it was! more

Not a great place 5/5/2011

I strongly encourage people to stay away from the Braselton-Stover House. I had a really bad experience there. I was a guest at a wedding in April 2011. I accidentally left my jacket behind at the venue. When I called them back half a day later to see about coming back to get it, I was told by Mary Stover, the owner, that she does not have a lost-and-found and that she just gave my jacket away to a stranger. She admitted to me that she did not know the name of the person to whom she gave my jacket and that she knew that he was not the owner. She gave it to him anyway and he left with it. I was incredulous. The owner basically said that it was my tough luck and that they get rid of everything that is left behind as a wedding party leaves. She does not like to deal with the mess, since she runs a tidy place. The jacket was worth over $125. She gave my jacket away less than 8 hours after I left to a guy who she knew was not the owner of the jacket just so she did not have to hassle with it. It was a really crummy thing to do and speaks volumes about what people can expect when dealing with this place. The owner told me that if I did not like their policy, then I should get a lawyer. That was really cold-hearted. She refused to discuss it with me or help me locate the person who left with it. Obviously, this place is not high on my list of venues to recommend to anyone at any time. Stay away from these people and their place of business. more

Great Venue, Great people - an asset to Braselton! 3/6/2011

We held our annual CablesAndKits Christmas party here for the second year in a row this past December and it was fantastic as usual! I wanted to take a few minutes to give an overview of our experience and opinion of the facility. The property is made up of three primary components. First, A wonderfully restored and decorated historic home (late 1800's?) which is the main entry point. It has a beautiful front entrance and foyer which is great for receiving (and funneling) your guests through a central entrance. This worked great for us because our photographer got pictures of each couple as they arrived. We had hors d'?uvres available in the dining room and our employees and their guests were able to grab those and mingle in the main house before our main event started. It works out great because there are lots of conversation pieces in the home including antiques and neat knick knacks, not including the neat architecture of the home itself. There were a lot of places to stand, congregate, and talk and while there were some places to sit there were not so many as to encourage people to sit around and not mingle which is what you want in an event like a Christmas party. Secondly, they have a nice green decorated up outdoor space for outdoor weddings and stuff like that. I have never really taken the time to go check it out but I know it?s nice, you can tell that from the road! Lastly, you have the hugified banquet/reception hall at the rear of the property. I think it probably holds maybe 200-250 people or so by the looks of it. We had less than 100 people at our party and the way the tables were spaced kept the room from looking empty, but it could have held a LOT more people. There is a dance floor, a corner dedicated to a DJ if you want/need one, an area off the main floor for setting up food, and of course a prep kitchen. The bathrooms are HUGE, you could party in there. And, like the main house, this place is well decorated. You know when you go one of those places and think to yourself ?I could never decorate like this, it must have taken YEARS to find all this stuff? ? this is that place. Everything is ?finished?, top notch. Now, I saw a review prior to this one and want to comment on Mary, the owner. The truth is ? she IS spastic, ?.. but, in a good way. She has a lot of passion for what they do and pours that into each event. I forget what it was, but there was something where she came to us and said ?Your [DJ/Caterer/Some Vendor] needs to go ahead and start doing XYZ or you are going to get started late?. Our goal was a smoothly timed event, and she was right, so her comment was well received and much appreciated. We did exactly what she recommended. You have to keep in mind, she does this 2,3, and sometimes 4 times a day. She knows what she is talking about. As a business owner I will also comment on what the last person said about ?double booking?. If you have an event facility you would be in the business of renting that space. There are roughly 8 Friday or Saturdays in a month and everyone on the planet wants to get married of have their event on one of them. Some people want a morning wedding, some want a noon wedding, some want an evening wedding. Sooooo ? You might have a TRIPPLE booking in a day ? and? If a typical wedding is X hours and you want more than that, BOOK MORE. Not sure I see the issue here but want to defend them on this topic because it is silly to complain that someone else will be booked for the same day! Overall, I think this is a great venue in a great location with accommodating and passionate owners willing to go out of their way to make sure you have the best event possible. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for a quality location. It?s not cheap but you get what you pay for and it?s worth every penny. Too bad I cannot give them 6 stars! more

Furious Wedding Planner 9/28/2009

The female owner Mary Stover is an infectious busy body. The owners double booked two wedding on the same day. Never a good idea if you do not have the space to accommodate the change over and they do not so watch out. The venue is nice but not big enough for a large wedding party. Go down the highway and get married at Chateau Elan it's worth the money to not have the headache of Typhoid Mary. Pros: Pretty Grounds Cons: The Female Owner more
