We brought our dog in with a complicated tumor that our own vet missed. They could have operated there, and brought in the large fee, but they made us an appointment at Cornell University, where the tumor was successfully removed. We are very grateful for the referral - we didn't even need to make a phone call. I am sorry for the people who left the first comment, but if they were about money, they wouldn't have sent us anywhere.
